Jason Garrett was hired by Jerry Jones before Wade Phillips. The odds are extremely high that Jones will not disrupt the established offense by getting rid of the same coach he has the most confidence in. That leaves the defensive side of the ball and Shanahan isn't a defensive coach.

I've said all along if another "name" head coach would be brought in, it would be Bill Cowher. Jones will not relinquish general manager responsibilities and that would be Holmgren's first requirement. The defense is already established and Jones will not take a step back by blowing it completely up for another coach.

On record, Cowher had one main hangup with Jones and that was rectified during last offseason. He would consider coaching in Dallas, but it would be on Jones to make it as enticing a prospect as possible. One requirement for him would be control over establishing the coaching staff. That would be a primary deal maker or deal breaker.

Cowher is the only retread I'd have. Just look at his record vs the others. It ain't even close.

But Cowher wants the Carolina job. And I think he'll get it. I pray Jerry goes after the guy. Money talks.

That's creating quite a stir.
Always count on the artists eye, especially when it comes to women. ;)

I've thought Shanahan for a while now. Even more so lately.

Jerry believes things start with the QB. He doesn't want to mess up and not have a strong figure to guide Romo (and that Tony will respect, a la Big Bill). The current arrangement with Garrett was a hopeful one, but it hasn't worked.

Jerry will want a guy who wants to be a coach, not a GM. That rules out Holmgren.

Jerry likes stars and flashiness. That rules out Cowher, in addition to the fact that Dallas is not in North Carolina.

Heard Francesa over the weekend thinking the same thing regarding the personalities.

That said, Jerry has always been unpredictable... every single time, from Jerry to Wade. I think this time he'll be fighting with himself over 1) a big name and proven winner for his big stadium, and 2) not wanting to take any steps back.

In the end, his frustration will lead him to his default mode -- go big, go proven. And Shanahan will be the biggest name that he can work with.
