Eddie,
I'm loving Tony Romo right about now. Yeah, yeah...it's only three games. And today's game came against a poor team. But after years of horrid play at this position, it's difficult not to become excited about a young player that has all but perfected each task asked of him.
I'm not entirely against drafting a quarterback. Romo's performance the rest of this year will heavily determine what I think needs to be done. If he were to stink up the next seven games, that obviously changes things. But, so far, that "seems" less likely than him continuing to do well based on what we've seen.
My problem with a high pick at quarterback is this: They're no sure things, either. Yeah, they come with a lot of status, but we already have a young quarterback that IS playing well. I'm afraid drafting a quarterback is just reaching for that green grass on the other side.
Now, I'm not against -- even as we sit here today -- drafting a guy in, say, the third or fourth round. Give us a young developmental guy behind Romo, along with perhaps a veteran acquisition to back him up. Plus, it'd be a decent insurance policy.
But if Romo does continue to play well, I'd be concerned a first-round pick at quarterback would just stir up controversy we don't need. Again, I'm willing to wait out Romo's performance before fully determining the answer to that.
