If I'm an NFL exec, I don't draft a QB early until NFL personnel departments show me they have some clue as to what they're doing as far as evaluating the QB position. A 40% success rate with 1st round picks isn't going to cut it.

If we didn't have Romo, I'd be all for drafting a QB in the first.

Yeah, the success rate isn't high there, but isn't it much lower when you're swinging for success in the second, third and fourth rounds? Hell, it's not like we took the safe route with Romo. :)

I just think that if you have a young QB you're high on, you don't go out and get another.

If Romo were a "name" young QB -- kinda like Henson was -- but not necessarily a guy who was actually playing well (again, like Henson, or even an Aaron Rodgers)...then I'd have a MUCH different feeling.

But, as we sit here today, Romo's all about production. Unless that changes, I don't think we need another young guy competing for his job.

Romo can play lights out for the rest of the season and we still need to draft QB on the first day at least. Bledsoe is out and we need to groom a backup. We can bring in a Kitna or the like for next year, but we need a long-term (3-4 year backup).

You know ... we've been so deprived of good QB play that we salivate over scraps. Anything remotely 'decent' is considered great these days.

Romo beat up a lousy 1-8 team.

Let's not put the words GREAT anywhere near his name quite yet. I'm happy with GOOD.

He has a long way to go before reaching the GREAT status. Let's keep our feet on the ground before announcing greatness. If he is, he'll earn it on his own. No banners or flags needed.
This is the same mentality that would lead us to believe the team would go down the drain with Romo in there instead of Bledsoe.

These last 3 games with Romo starting have been the best qb'ed games since Aikman...People need to realize that true Cowboy fans have been waiting for the next good young qb to come around since Aikman retired.

Cowboy fans have a right to be encouraged...let the coaches keep everyone else on the team with thier feet on the ground.

It's a fans right to feel great about Romo.

I would always have a young QB being groomed and waiting in the wings......did we not learn that lesson waiting for Romo to come along?

same here.

what i'm seeing in QB play the last 3 starts is something i haven't seen since '93 era Troy and before that i'm talkin' 70s. we've had alot of bums at QBs along the way. Not to compare him to those guys by any stretch, but i don't see any 1st round QB doing anything remotely as productive the next few years for us... and that is great news for cowboy fans :)

The thing I really like about Romo: We're holding nothing back with him out there. Our playbook is more open than it's ever been. To me, that's much more of an indication of how much Parcells trusts him than anything else. As pointed out earlier, we're running five-wide sets on 1st and 10. We're going downfield on 2nd and 23, etc. These weren't things we seemed comfortable, or capable, of doing with Bledsoe or any of the previous guys.

The term "bus driver" often carries a negative connotation. But I think any good quarterback must first be a manager of the game. I think Tony's not only a manager, but he's also a game breaker -- a guy you trust with the ball and expect to make big plays, despite what might be breaking down around him.

At least, that's how I feel after three starts.

Check out his 3rd down stats.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/splits?playerId=5209

72% completion; 110 QB rating.

The best thing about Romo is that anything inside 3rd & 15 and I'm fairly confident we convert.

Great point Dale. I thought about that today when it was 3rd and a yard to go and we went 5 wide, no backs and Romo completed a 5 yard pass to Witten for a first down. I thought that was indicative of Parcells confidence in Romo and wondered why the announcers didn't pick up on it.

It was anti-Parcells, as the media typecasts him.

Love it. Players literally gravitate toward him on the sideline. I think that's a term that has become cliche in sports. But with Romo, it actually seems true. No joke, but did it seem to anyone else like players were positioning themselves for a spot near Romo at times on the sideline?

When he flashes that smile, you can't help but smile yourself.

I generally try to take as unbiased an approach, as I possibly can, to everything. To me, I only see two true negatives about Romo: he's not 6-foot-4 (which, based on his play, is insignificant) and he doesn't have a howlitzer of an arm. But given the fact he's not sporting a popgun, he certainly seems to have more than the necessary amount of arm strength.

I don't see his occasional free lancing as a bad thing. I think he's actually doing a pretty good job of learning when to use the free lancing and how to avoid mistakes on those "gunslinging" plays.

It's so nice to see a strong passing game again. I finally feel like we're an equally balanced team.

The thing I'm most impressed with concerning Romo: His quick decision making. He makes a decision about where to go with the football, and he delivers.

I'm also impressed with his pocket presence and escapability. He can actually FEEL the rush...something we've not seen from our QBs in a long time.

Do you remember that feeling you got when you first heard Tony Romo would be playing the second half of the Giants game.

You don't get that feeling for someone who is just above average.
