There was a cat out of Texas A&M back in the day named George Wells, he was a 280 pound ball carrier, But....slow. Doubt I can find anything about him.

Back in the 50's the Rams had two 225 pounders in the same backfield Tank Younger (first Grambling player in the NFL) and Deacon Dan Towler. This was unusual for the times.

Both pro bowlers in the same season a few times, Towler All Pro in 1952, Younger in 1951.

Earl Campbell and George Rodgers were bruising back that punished the defense.

Loads like that is one of the major reasons I played WR instead of defensive back. Even at the high school level every once in awhile you'll run into them. And they do find their way into the defensive backfield.

Riggins was a truck but if I was playing just one game I think I would take Campbell.
As the great coach Bum Phillips once said, the Oilers had three offensive plays, Earl to the left, Earl to the right and Earl up the middle. They ran Campbell into the ground and used him up, but he was probably my all-time favorite RB that was not a Cowboy. I don’t think I have ever seen a RB that punished defenses like Earl. He would have been even better playing in today’s NFL where basic tackling is becoming rare.
