it had something to do with it, but not all

that was still a lousy game between two average at best teams

David

So I guess when we beat IND, it wasn't as big a deal as everyone in here was saying it was at the time....just another game against just another average team....

How scripted was this game.............the NFL is happy the think they have snowballed the fans........Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy winnning the SUPERBOWL...............

THE NFL is fixing the games....there is to many coicindencse for the math to work out.....

Jeorme Bettis to retire and play and win a superbowl in his home town....?

Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy: to of the biggest chokers in the NFL finally win the superbowl?????

Call me stupid: But ther is to many stars aligning to belive this crap....

Me thinks the NFL is influencing the game........DO NOT FORGET the owner and the leage are in it for the money not the hype,,, its all business just like the players say.............Do you really belive all the NFL league hype............bottom line its about the money

I am coming to that conclusion as well. Now I feel pretty stupid like when I was a kid and realized wrestling was fake. Ever notice that almost all the refs are italian; Peirera, Carrolo, Carrente, and how often one call can change the game. Smells like a racket to me.

I don't think that the game being sloppy was the reason for the lack of interest. The rain probably had a lot to do with it as it was coming down pretty hard.

IMO the problem with parity was revealed in this game where two teams who haven't been to the SB in 20+ years meet.

What made SBs of the past so great, and SB XIII in particular, was that you had two teams who were without doubt the best in their respective conferences. The Cowboys and Stealers had dominated their conference for years and had met 3 years before in a closely fought game.

Rivalries make for big games. Even though the Patriots have been great the last few years they don't have a rival in the NFC. The Eagles come close but that is always their story, they come close but not quite. I thought the Panthers might be that team the last few years but they are too inconsistent.

The best rivalry in the NFL right now, in terms of two good teams going at it year after year, is the Colts vs Patriots. That is a game everyone looks forward to and this year's battle was no different in that it went back and forth before a winner was decided in the closing moments of the game.

The Bears are not a dominant team and the Colts, while very good, have not been the dominant team in the AFC. The Patriots vs Cowboys would have been a great matchup in terms of fan interest even if they weren't the best two teams this season.

The Chargers vs Saints would have been a better matchup as well this year but only because they were news and people were looking for several storylines: Brees vs his old team, LT vs Reggie Bush, etc.

There just wasn't any drama in watching the Colts vs the Bears even though it was fairly close til the 4th quarter when Rex threw a couple of picks to seal their doom.

Parity is designed to reduce the chance of dynasties being possible. The Patriots are an anomaly in the age of parity, FA, and the salary cap. They go against the grain with how they are able to put a team together year after year in SPITE of the FA and the cap.

The NFL has gotten what it asked for and the fans are not very pleased with it.

Post of the year so far.

Most boring game I can recall.

At least last years game had me angry at the officiating.

This game had me indifferent.

The NFL put a bland product on the field last night.

As bad as I hate to say it, this league needs the Bill Parcells, Terrell Owens type characters to offset the shoddy product on the field.

You almost expected them to have tea and finger foods in the lockeroom afterwards.

My knock against this "new NFL" has been vindicated.......
If this SB isn't the poster boy for everything wrong with Free Agency, Salary cap and parity, I don't know what is.
No great players, no superstar's, nothing spectacular. Two teams getting there being the least of all evil's.
I haven't been so bored in all my life. Like watching a Div. 1AA championship game.
We've been conned and fooled folks. It's a sad, sad state of affairs when the best team in the NFL is THESE Indianapolis Colts.
What a joke..........................

Yup. There are significant problems with today's NFL.

I am hoping that this will become a topic for the various talking heads in sports media. The first step in fixing a problem is recognizing it ....

OK I do not get this about the turn overs

Look through out the SuperBowl history they are litter with turnovers

Generally by one team

Come on other than being a Dallas fan and enjoying it The 1st time we played the Bills it was a blow out and the Bills turned the ball over a lot In fact lets look at that game turn overs it was Boring for everyone other than Dallas Fan

Bills interceptions 4 fumbles 8 lost 5

Dallas interceptions 0 fumbles 4 lost 2

So 11 Total Turnovers in are arse kicking of the Bills

Colts and Bears

Colts interceptions 1 fumbles 2 lost 2 (Botched FG)

Bears interceptions 2 fumbles 4 lost 3

So 8 Total Turnovers

So the whole Turnover sloppy game is not even as bad as some of the SuperBowls we played in

Good and Bad I guess.

I would have liked to seen the game without all the rain. Have to wonder if it would be a different game all together.

But...there were also games prior to the cap where one team should not have ever been in the Superbowl.

Where one team would just flat out kill, not just stats but score wise as well, another team.

Seems so odd how the AFC had taken over the NFC.

Remember back in the day the best game, between the best two teams, was always the NFC Championship and then they would go on, for the most part, and kill the AFC team.

Now it seems like it is reversed.:(

It has nothing to do with free agency or the salary cap and everything to do with expansion. The more teams you add, the thinner you spread the talent.

No great players, no superstar's

Really? Most people would say Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, and Brian Urlacher are superstars.

San Diego and San Fran
Bears against New England (Tony Eason as the QB)

Funny thing is form 1985 to 1997 when the NFC won 12 Straight 7 of the Losses for the AFC are Buffalo 4 Denver 3 (ouch)

I was telling my nephew and his dad about SB V being the turnover bowl.

Superbowl XXVII (93' Cowboys vs Bills) had a record 9 turnovers. More than Superbowl V.

This game was even less exciting and grungy feeling than last year and why do commercials suck in the recent decade?

You nailed it yourself though....it's about both teams turning the ball over so much, especially the fumbles....fumbles bother me more than interceptions...the game was poorly played by either team, and if either team had protected the ball, they could have won easily. The Bears were fortunate to get the ball in Colt territory a few times, only to give it right back.

When one team dominates the other, I don't really crack on the team that starts making lots of turnovers because they are passing more into coverage and trying to make things happen on runs, etc.

Last night I found neither team impressive overall....Except for the opening KO, I don't even think there were any memorable plays by the two offenses.

Yep...The KO and the INT for a TD.

However like I said earlier, I really have to wonder how much better it would have been on a clear night.

That's inaccurate then, the Bills turned it over a record nine times. Dallas had a punt blocked and fumbled in garbage time late in the fourth with a third string runningback, I think it is a stretch to consider a blocked punt a turnover.

I don't know....

I think the Ravens/Giants Super Bowl was worse.

But I did quickly lose interest in this game....thanks to Prince.

Yeah, that one was bad...

I thought this one was actually okay until the 4th quarter, when the Bears were completely exposed as a team with its head not in the game...The turnovers and the weather actually made it a more exciting game for me...I don't particularly like either team so I was just looking for some interesting football. Turnovers count.
