The Brandin Cooks trade doesn't solve the problem. It is the problem!

When Brandin Cooks joins the Dallas Cowboys, he will join his 5th team in his 9-year career.

Saints, Pats, Rams, Texans, and now the Cowboys. A lot of folks on here are caught up by a name they recognize and a player some wanted during the season, last year. And I'll be the first to admit that Brandin Cooks is a NICE player, he isn't what this team needs.

This team needs an offensive weapon. A "game wrecker" of sorts. Not another nice WR that will fight for number 2 touches in our offense.

It points to the obvious blind spot in the front office that most of here can see but some are blinded too as well.

IMO settling for anything short of DHop or OBJ is just that. Settling.
You want Justin Jefferson? Cooper Kupp? Stephon Diggs? That's a bit unreasonable.

Admittedly, the changing teams isn't something you like to see, but in each case he was traded by a team that needed to improve and was looking to add draft picks and in some cases, create cap space. If it was reported he was a constant discipline or attitude problem that would be different.

The reality is Lamb, Galloway and Cooks make for a WR trio that is easily among the better ones in the NFL, and Cooks has been one of the most productive receivers in the NFL over the last 8 years.

OBJ? He hasn't had a strong year since 2019, and has had a couple of knee surgeries since. Seems you're the one that thinks the team should chase a name.

I just don't see what there is to complain about.

They want to play like we did in 2014 where we protected Romo and the defense and went on to give Romo one of his best seasons….
Defense?? If ONLY our defense that year was better, we could have made it to the Super Bowl. Our defense did NOT give Romo one of his best seasons. Romo and our offense did. Did you forget our defense couldn't stop a one legged Rodgers??

So you want a name? So waiting for the Cards to hold out for a team to offer a better second round pick (or a first), or gamble on another ACL (and arguing over money).
Make the move, improve the Corp and move on....this stalling on players gets teams bogged down and used.

you're talking about a #1 WR at this point, and we have one. we need to compliment that and that's what cooks does. and at this point, it shouldn't be much of a fight for #2, or those fighting for #2 would also be fighting for #1 as well.

its funny to a point of painful irony you ***** about name recognition and then pull up 2 WR's who are out trying to sell their name moreso than their services.

That’s what I said. I said the plan was for the run game to protect Romo and the defense. Running the clock kept the defense off the field. Aaron made a great play. Nothing the defense could do about that throw one legged or not.

No, in 2014 they finally had an all-pro line at every position instead of journeymen OL masquerading as quality and Bill Callahan’s RB schemes, unlike what was thrown out there with Houck and guys like Julius Jones running into the back of OL. In 2014, they were a downfield, big chunk passing attack, built off the run with little play-action, play action used for, once again, not as a staple of the offense, but a feature to attack downfield. Once again, that offense was predicated on big play ability and both Dez and TWill were 2 of the top 3 WRs in go routes caught. That’s a myth, 2014 was conservative.. it just ran the ball effectively well and they had no need to protect the QB, what they needed was to take the pressure off him to make these happens.

And we don’t need to “protect the defense”, as this defense was the 5th ranked scoring defense and had multiple scores. The defense has clearly been our best asset.

Cooks isn't all that. Neither is D-Hop or OBJ. All of them are 30+ years old with lots of wear-n-tear and who cost lots of money.

Ah - now that you worded it this way, I get what you were saying.

The guy has had what…6 1000 seasons. He’s a little more than nice. I get the love affair with big names like OBJ and DHop but OBJ was never this game in/game out superstar. He had superstar plays and games but he has been injured and out of the game a bit. DHop is kind of following the Julio Jones route. Unreal talent that was unstoppable and now time has caught up to him a little. He’s still way more serviceable and his drop off not as precipitous but overall I have fears with both guys. I think DHop is best of bunch but this isn’t the Texans version. I mean we got quality for picks we don’t really hit on so why not. Good value

Our defense in 2014 was ranked 15th in points and 19th in yards allowed. That said it was a definite improvement over the 26th, 24th, and 31st (in points) it was ranked the three years before when we went 8-8.

I am not sure why people keep acting like OBJ is this upper tier, elite WR still. Or that we should question Cooks on his 5th team in 9 years but somehow OBJ bouncing around like a fool isn't equally perplexing/questionable.
I like OBJ and would have welcomed his addition, but his last 1000 yard season was in 2019. Even with Hopkins, his last one was in 2020

Brandin Cooks went for 1000 in 2021, both players were about the same in 2022 when you consider Cooks played in three more games but had a much worse QB situation for most of the games.

All in all, I don't see how you can make a case that either are better than Cooks right now

Fair point although with Cooks he wont turn 30 until September, so I'm not sure he's done at this point. The argument could be made for a smaller speed-dependent receiver that his best days are behind him though. Curious what your solution would have been to the WR problem? Was there another trade target worth pursuing in a trade or FA? Rather look at the draft? I'm not in love with the Cooks deal, but it also feels like a solid solution at least for 2023.

Here’s the thing…

Hopkins is a pipe dream

OBJ is a washed up mental case

You negative nellies fail to forget Gallup is paid big money and he was coming off knee surgery

Cooks is a big upgrade over Hilton and Washington

WR will also be addressed in the draft

Want to complain about something complain about TE. That is a bigger need at this point.
