IMO, the fact that offensive players can help each other but defenders can't makes this play near impossible to stop legally.

If it was up to me, I would put runners on the side and come in and do flying tackles on Hurts from the side. If they happen to spear the wide receivers pushing him in the process, so be it.

If we did it and were good at it....I can't imagine the whining from the Karen's on the board if the league tried to ban it.

When it’s at the goal line and you know they are getting it I’m shocked no one hasn’t just ripped him by the face mask….seems well worth the extra yard or two.

Unfortunately, by the time they get him from the sides, he'll have already gone 2 or 3 yards. That strategy seems sound, if the object is to take him down eventually, but they need to stop his forward motion at or before the LoS, which means attacking from the front. Dive at the feet of the center and have someone else dive over the fallen center. It's still not a sure thing, but at least there's a chance of stopping Hurts's momentum.
The point is to overpower Hurts and hope for a fumble or a stop because you have toppled Kelce and taken his lead blocker out from the side.

Diving over the top does not work!

Nick Sirianni likely adapted the same concept. The major difference between the flying wedge and the tush push is the running start in rugby.
How about this flying wedge?

The NFL rule is that you can't "pull" or "carry." "Pushing" a runner is a loophole in the rule, and is not proscribed. The last penalty for "assisting the runner" was called in 1991.

Jeeze... they found a way to move the ball using the 11 guys on the field. No invisible rope and a truck or other tools involved. It doesn't mean crap that it looks like a rugby play or whatever. Don't complain. Don't ban. Just figure it out. Otherwise they'll get their first down / touchdown and earned it. If Hurts gets hurt? Their problem.

Period.

That “Dog Mentality” crap again—they think they’re stronger, tougher and want to win more. Aggressively delusional and confrontational. Fits their psyche perfectly—-bitter drunk wannabes with bad self esteem, riding a gimmick.

The Anal Push.

If the Cowboys were running this play with the same effectiveness no one here would have a problem with it.

They have a future HOF center, a QB who squats 600 pounds, and a former rugby player on their line who had the idea. That's why it works. Stop it, if you can.

They also have a rugby coach that has helped them refine and perfect the play.

Really the only effective way to stop the play is for the DL to get lower and dive at the OL legs so they can't drive their blocks and have LBs come over the pile at the QB.

By the time the LBs are there, the QB has already made the necessary yards. They usually only need one or two. Maybe the safeties need to push the LBs lol.

To hell with that play. Why is everyone making such a fuss about it? @ 4th and goal (1 yard) teams usually make it into the endzone. They just upped their chances from 70% or whatever to 95%. They don't win the games because of that play but because they get in range to be able to use that play.

Cowboys need to keep the ball on offense as long as possible. Mike and Dak have found ways to do that now. CD has developed into a top 5 WR. Fergie is become better than average. And our o line, if healthy are capable of giving Dak enough time. (+ he doesn't take as many stupid sacks as before) Finally all this is coming together. On the other side our defense is good enough to keep teams from running away with the score.

Now this hasnt worked against SF. But let's worry about them later. We have developed alot since that game while they just continue to do their thing. Maybe the gap was closed a little. It's Eagles time now. So let's pluck and cook that lame arse turkey and worry about other things next. Philly won't win because of the tush push. If they win they have deserved it. Let's just hope Dak and the guys can bring their a game tomorrow. Then we're the better team.

Best way to stop it is to keep them out of 3rd and 4th and short. Gotta win 1st and 2nd down and keep it out of their playbook.

Next best thing to that is to physically punish Hurts when they run it with hard, clean shots. Pound on him. They will stop running it when he gets beat up too much. IMO— that is an inevitability

The only way I can think to stop it is to get under Kelce and and the guards on their dive. Problem is they are unreal how they come off the ball in unison to dive off the snap.

You basically need your DL to similarly come off the ball in unison and get under them.

It is nigh impossible to coordinate that off the reaction to the snap for defense. The offense goes off cadence. HUGE difference.
