I like the way the practice squad system is set up.

If you value your young prospect, you can bump him / her :D up to the active roster. I think there is a 24 or 48 hour window to promote the player before he can be removed from the squad by another team.

It also gives the player a great oppportunity to get on an active roster instead of being stuck on a team's farm squad (practice).

I have a question:
Does a player have to accept being promoted by another team to their active roster if he doesn't want to be promoted or dislikes the other team, cough..Lions..cough ?

They can have him. Good riddance to Rudy Carpenter too.

You can just feel that hatred for all things ASU in that post. Nice!

Rudy is nothing special. He is kind of short and has freakishly small hands(8 5/8"). He did okay in the pre-season, but I don't expect much out of him for his career.

McGee may not pan out, but I don't consider a 4th round draft pick on a developmental QB that was rated for that round to be a wasted pick. Dallas grabbed him exactly where he was expected to be drafted.

I would dislike Carpenter no matter where he played ball. I just saw too many articles and interviews to like him. But it certainly doesn't hurt that he played at ASU.

I agree. Even in college he came across as unlikeable during his interviews.

Smug and self centered. Reminded me a lot of Jeff George without the talent.

I liked Rudy Carpenter in the little I saw him. And I can't get too excited about losing a PS player. But it just annoys me that some team keeps taking someone I consider "our" player. Silly.

But I still wouldn't mind if Jerry poached someone from the Bucs PS, just for spite. Too bad not enough room on the roster to do it.

Hate to see him go. When we got him I did not think much of him but after seeing him he looked pretty good even though he did not get many chances but looked good in the final game of the pre-season. I wish him the best of luck.

A true University of Arizona alum.:laugh2:

I had a friend that came and stayed with me and my family this summer from Wyoming. He asked me "Dude, what's with all the ASU stuff around here? Aren't there any University of Arizona fans?" To which I replied:"The ASU fans are the transplants and bandwagon kids. The TRUE fans are down in Tucson." ;)

I forgave Darren Woodson, Jim Jeffcoat, Bob Breunig, and Danny White for where they went to school. Scrubs like Rudy will never be forgiven. Be gone you foul demon from hell.

I would love for them to fix the way the practice squad works. Maybe a team would get some type of compenstation for losing guys say same round you used to draft a guy or something like that. Or if that player is active for X amount of games ..etc . I know this guy wasnt drafted but stuff like this is my biggest pet peeve about the current version of the NFL in that you get penalized for doing your homework in the scouting and development just to lose them for nothing.

Why should you get compensated? Lets see ... we aren't willing to give this guy a real NFL contract but some other team is... we should get a reward for that?

FAIL.

I will eat all the crow in the world if Mcgee turns out to be a solid QB. I watched him play in college and he was terrible. If the Cowboys wanted to develop a QB they could have picked up McGee later in the draft easily...what a waste of a 4th round pick. The Cowboys just were the team that bought Sherman's BS since he claimed he had NFL connections and would push teams to draft McGee...
I didn't like taking a guy that raw in the fourth, but its bs to say that the Cowboys reached for him there. New England was just one of the teams that wanted to draft him in the fourth round.

Where they can't find a Rose Bowl berth with two hands. Nice try in '09, though.

I'm just going to save this post for when McGee, who was picked as a developmental QB not expected to do anything at first, comes into his own in 4 or 5 years.
I had heard that teams where looking at drafting McGee right where we took him, especially New England.

First reaction: what do the Bucs need another QB for?

Then again, Rudy Carpenter did show a little in preseason. Good for the Cowboys in that their practice squad players generate interest in the league. It shows the Cowboys were able to recognize talent.

They don't need another QB, yet. This is all in an attempt to help the Steelers out again. Leftwich played there last season and actually did good in spot duty. So, the league offices probably told the Bucaneers that they had to cut Leftwich so the Steelers could get him back to ensure that they would have a capable backup for there SuperBowl run.

right...honestly, this is no big deal. if they are worth keeping, they're not on the practice squad.

I wonder if early on, had we kept two kickers back then, would Romo had been on the practice squad.

There goes that theory, which I did like by the way.

I'm willing to let McGee develop for at least 4 years like we did with Romo, albeit Romo looked like a playmaker since his rookie pre-season. I have seen enough of McGee to say he warrants the time and effort to develop him into at least a solid back-up. Tony is 29 and barring a carreer ending injury he's got at least 7 good years left in the tank if not more. Heck if guys like Kitna and Frerrote can hang around into their late 30's why not Romo.
