Quarterbacks turn it over sometimes. People around here act like good quarterbacks only ever throw incompletions or interceptions on passes that hit their targets in the hands and bounced away entirely thanks to the receiver. But that's not really the case.
Even Troy Aikman, the golden standard in our fans' minds for a robotic efficient passer who had perfect mechanics and pinpoint accuracy, protected the ball way worse than Dak. And completed a lower percentage of passes. And not every interception or incompletion only made its way to the defender's hands or to the ground by bouncing off of the hands of his intended target. Of course, people will say Troy intentionally threw more balls away to wisely live to fight another day. Which, sure. But then, when Dak is careful, he gets tagged for that too. It wasn't so long ago our fans were crying about Dak being too precious with the football, not forcing enough balls and giving his guys chances to fight for the ball. 2 of his last 3 interceptions came on throws he forced to Amari, and we're still pissed. When he wasn't turning it over, people were furious that he was playing careful to hide how terrible he secretly is. When he is less careful, people are furious he's not playing careful enough. It's almost as if he can't win.
People are just losing their minds about how miserably Dak is playing this year, as if it proves he's garbage. Instead, to me, it's just showing how high his floor is. He spent the first half of the season playing with nothing but 3rd and 4th WRs, and nothing but TEs who don't belong higher than a 2nd or 3rd TE. And he's spent the entire season without Frederick, and with Tyron being either out or hobbled with injuries (or a shell of himself). And our offensive coaching has been terrible. And with all of that, he's still 8-5 with 2.4 touchdowns for every pick, completing 68% of his passes (amazing for someone who idiot Cowboys fans like to compare to Tim Tebow, a guy who only completed 40-something percent) for a passer rating in the high 90's. That's not bad at all for the miserable circumstances of this season. Compares pretty favorably to the lower floor you see from most quarterbacks when their o-line loses key guys and they're given bad weapons to throw to.
And by the way, anyone saying Dak's fumbles are a deal-breaker needs to show me proof of them calling for us to move on from Tony Romo in 2008 when he fumbled 13 times in 13 games (more than Dak despite fewer rushes and fewer sacks).
