He played for Jimmy Johnson and saw what it takes to win. Won two SB's and saw first hand what it takes to make it there. The only new head coach I would be happy with would be one that has won a SB, so why not Garrett who won WITH the Cowboys? I don't want to see what may be our only shot at a loyal Cowboy head coach who might be able to win go to another team.

He hasn't been given a chance to implement his brand of coaching. I say it's time to either crap or get off the pot and name him head coach.

I don't see any other way to go right now.

one viable option that will make the IGS scream, to be sure.

Knowing what it takes to win does not automatically equal SB rings. While there are plenty of reasons to like JG (ex-Cowboy, won an SB albeit has a backup, young), he certainly did NOT make a good case for himself this season.

If you can't do your job (OC), then you don't deserve to be the one bossing around the guy who does your job.

Why hasn't he been given a chance to implement an offense that can do anything but look inept the last month of the year?

Just wondering. Shouldn't the next great thing at least be great at coaching his side of the ball before he's promoted?

And I don't see any kind of charisma or leadership from him. Other than the legendary "This year, *** that, I'm not doing that" from Hard Knocks, of course.

I just can't get 2007 out of my head. I know its nuts, but that guy is still in there, I just don't know why it was so bad in 2008.

Garrett overthought things, he couldn't integrate a number of components that were obviously too many for him to handle, he simplified the offense when it needed complexity and vice versa... there are a number of things you can point to, but it's all correctable, and most of it worked in '07.

Unfortunately Jerry's repeatedly said that his HC will not be a sideline-walker... he'll have to coach something. That bodes well for Garrett's chances, although there is absolutely no way you get a promotion for basically falling asleep on the job for most of the season.

Didn't Sean Payton go through this same thing in NO? His first year the Saints were gangbusters and they took a step back offensively the next year because people had him figured out? Could Garrett possibly be in the same boat? I know for damn sure that we all hated the hell out of Payton when he left, and then he was kicking people's faces in in NO and we all groaned and went, "ugh, figures." I don't want the same happening with JG and I bet it would if we let him go.

Your view is at least reasonable. One thing I believe is that Garrett would definately be an upgrade over the present HC.:

whatever the case he sucks as an OC. he has more talent on offense than any other team in the league. imagine what a real coach could do with our offense.

He had full control of one of the most talented offenses in the league and laid a bunch of eggs. Sure it can only get worse, maybe 8-8?:bang2:

Because he beat the Packers on Turker Day a decade and a half ago.

Just because he struggled as an OC this year has no bearing on what kind of Head Coach he might be.

I have some friends who are Steelers fans and they were pissed when Tomlin was hired. Now they really like his fire and passion. He's a disciplinarian but a player's coach as well.

He's not in charge in Dallas so we really don't know what his teams personality would be. He may turn out to be a great HC. Who Knows.

I won't respond individually as I can't disagree entirely. I'm just lost with this group and trying to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Throwing everything from the last few years aside, I just know he was there, and saw, what playing for a winning coach and on a winning team was like. It also happened to be the 90's Cowboys and Jimmy Johnson. I don't think we can dismiss that importance considering where we're at right now.

Not saying you all should agree with me, but it's all I've got right now and after the last few weeks it looks better and better to me.

I agree with you totally, JG will be a excellent HC. He's very discipline and detail aware. It's difficult for him or any other coordinator to be successful with a soft HC. I bet JG hates the way WP runs things, JG came up around JJ and learned and played for one of the best. There isn't much he can do with WP running things. I bet JG damn near threw up when we had DJ's at practice playing music this year. What the F is that? WP is our problem, the players don't respect him or fear him one bit...

The case for firing Jason Garrett
  • He was the deciding factor in having Brad Johnson as our backup
  • His offense was a mess pretty much half of the season
  • He didn't give Felix Jones any touches in the game against the Commanders even though Felix had scored in every game he played in.
  • He used screens against the Giants to beat them and didn't use any in the last 2 games.
  • He has arguebly one of the best receiving cores in football and he couldn't find a way to use them consistently.
  • His running offense stunk the place up
  • He's pass happy, too Mike Martz-ish
  • He allowed defenses to take our #1 receiver out of games when other #1 receivers around the league was still tearing it up. How come they didn't have that problem.
  • His scheme simply isn't as creative as it should have been especially from a guy nickname the Red haired Genius.

Without discipline, order, respect, and hard work, none of those things are possible and it all starts with WP. It would be difficult for any coordinator to be successful under him...
