Ok so 80-90% of the fan base is hoping for a QB at number 4, myself included.. Yet if one truly believes Romo can still be the guy and his injuries have not retired him, the One player that can impact this team the most is Zeke.

When Romo is back there you need that dominant run game to keep the dogs off your QB, you need teams respecting the run game, period. You gotta protect your passer, if he goes down its over. RB by committee is not where it's at with this team, we miss that Murray type production and Zeke is supposed to be that guy and more.

A dominant run game also keeps that defense off the field but after trading down and picking up extra picks, you can address that defense the more..

Jerry said he believes Romo is still the guy and if that's true, if he truly believes that, then no other pick will impact that belief than taking Zeke.

I would bet that if the one QB we really like is gone by 4, we will see a trade down somewhere between 7-12 and it will be for RB Zeke Elliott...

Roger had Tony, Troy had Emmitt, Romo needs a new improved Murray and that's Zeke Elliott..

Ok I'm off to do some YouTube scouting...

The running game closes out games only if you can convert first downs. It does not necessarily lead to ball control and the defense off the field. Ball control is achieved by making first downs and it's easier to do so in the passing game down in and down out.

The case against Zeke:

1: He hasn't even been the best back in the BCS the last 2 years. Fournette, Gurley and Gordon have all been better.
2: You get no discount from free agency and would be paying him top dollar.
3: He is not a physical back instead relying on finesse.
4: This a deep RB draft with good prospects into the 4th round as opposed to the opportunity cost of the other positions.
5: He is not a team player who will use the media to negotiate when he doesn't get his way.
6: He has a party reputation. Bosa was told to move away from him as roommate last offseason.
7: We already have a 1000 yard rusher and depth.

I think Zeke would help the offense. He is a complete back. May not be the best pure runner over that's few years but is a solid blocker which most aren't and a decent reciever. That said I think there are a handful of rb's in this draft who while not as complete, are close to equal as runners
And because there will be some good ones still there in 3rd round the difference in a complete back and one who had to learn to block, along with the player you got in the first rnd in place of Zeke makes for better value

If they trade down to 7 or lower, possibly. Can't see them pulling the trigger at 4.

Starting to get the feel they go Wentz/Ramsey or pray the phone rings.

I think you are right with the Wentz/ Ramsey idea. They appear to not be high on Goff or Bosa
But will other teams call if they are what's there?

Yes it is my opinion.....but that doesn't change the fact your numbers are way to high. I'd believe 50/50 but even taking your low number of 80, that is really up there.

Do you have numbers from a poll? Or just admitted opinion? TheNumbersZone

I think it will be Goff and I will be fine with that. Goff, Ramsey or Bosa would all help this team immensely. If they aren't there then Wentz and Tunsil will be. If Jack's knee checks out then he is in the conversation as well.

We really cannot go wrong here. We're picking at the top of the round. We should be picking the best QB, DE, or DB not trade down for the 3rd best. We should do that each round. We won't need to trade up for Henry or Joseph because they will already be there at 34. We can dip in the DT pool in the third before it's completely picked over.

We have a ton of depth on defense. While they may not be world beaters the defense is full of guys like Gachkar, WIlson, Irving, Thomas, Claiborne, Wilber, Russell, Smith, McClain, JCrawford, Heath, Wilcox and the like. Frontline help is needed at DE and DB.

Not so much on offense where Looney, Street, Moore, and Dunbar are all key reserves.

You can go wrong picking a 1 contract player in the top 5. People are paranoid about the Eagles taking him. I hope they do because after 5 years that will be an empty. And I think Zeke is a very good HB. He isnt Gurley though. The only reason he may be even close os Gurley tearing his knee up.

1. Presence of other good players in college doesn't downgrade a prospect.
2. Huh? So? What do we care what we pay a draft pick vs. free agent, if the former's an elite player while the latter is JAG? Is the bargain more valuable to the franchise than the performance?
3. Just because he can avoid contact better than most doesn't mean he is not physical. The all-time leading rusher in NFL history would run out of bounds instead of getting hit, and could avoid contact/limit it's effect with anticipation, quickness and incredible body control. Zeke has the same ability--an aspect which only strengthens his status as it predicts longevity.
4. Again, is the bargain worth more than performance? Will Perkins be an every down elite player or just a younger McFadden? This is the strongest argument against Zeke, but still can't account for the potential impact we get from Zeke, day 1, compared to other positions (DE, CB), which take a year or three to truly make an impact
5. Once. Big deal. The league is littered with players and coaches who have thrown others under the bus in the heat of the moment
6. He has a party reputation--from one article. Rumors, Heresay. He hasn't been suspended, like Bosa, or kicked out of a game, like Bosa. Are you really going to say that Bosa is the angel corrupted by Zeke? Or is it the other way around?
7. Great. We have a 1000 yd rusher, who has also been proven to be injury prone and inconsistent after several years in the league, while our depth is comprised of a player who hasn't been good for two years and one who can't play more than 4 games a year. That depth, when you look beyond the names, is about as reliable as Devin Street or Jeff Heath

The closer we get to the draft with it seems pretty clear we want either Ramsey, Wentz, or Zeke; I think the most likely scenario is Ramsey and Wentz are off the board so we try and trade back a few spots and take Zeke a few spots past 4, or if we can't find a partner we just take him at 4.

I know it's beside the point, but
Even in this forum caught up in the hype, the number who ant a QB at 4 is in the 55% range.
On local talk radio and other places it's more like 30-40%

1. Gurley was drafted 10 and Gordon at the end of the round. I actually put Zeke on par with or slightly ahead of Gordon although I think Gordon is a better runner. Gordon and Zeke are a tier below the other two who also have power to their game. We are talking about player rankings here and the slotting is zero sum.
2. The 4th pick gets ~$6m. The OPOTY the year before got $7m and that is what Martin got. I'm assuming Zeke does well in my initial comments because if he busts then it just that much worse wasting all that money on a HB. As opposed to if Goff, Ramsey and Bosa hit and how much their counterparts get paid.
3. Show me the plays where he is pushing piles and show me one block where he drives his guy back. He is a wall off guy like Escobar except he's in college. Best I have seen is him running through arm tackles with the balance you talk about. I'm not saying he is weak but his strength is merely average.
4. You're missing the point. The DE and QB pickings are slim on the second day. You can find a runner who can contribute on day 3.
5. Sorry but most players have not questioned their coaches play calling to the press. Snitches get stitches.
6. That's fair in that nothing is certain but to say that it shouldn't be investigated just as thoroughly is wishcasting. It is a legitimate concern.
7. I'm not saying it's gravy but were comparing that to Carr, Moore, and Mayowa with worse behind them. DMC made all kinds of plays last year for us and was good on the pass protection. Morris we'll have to see but I think his last two years may be as much Gruden as it is anything. RB3 can be found on day 3.
