The Colts asking price for Jonathan Taylor is “roughly” a high second round pick, per at TomPelissero

I mentioned a few weeks ago we should give the colts a 2nd plus Gallup for him. You then give him a 1 year deal and let him go after the season. 10m guaranteed but incentives that push it to 15. That could be enough to keep him happy and he can chase the money next season as a free agent

We have much bigger problems now on the oline and at lb.

We waste our second round picks anyways why wouldn't we do this?
Because he’s refusing to play and wants a new contract. The second round pick is not a big deal, but giving a RB another crazy contract after getting out of Zeke’s would be a bad move.

They would be better served trading for oline or lb help before doing this , we Have more than enough at rb and even though he would be an upgrad, it wouldn't be incrementally as much as other positions
I'd like them to trade for a DT like Derrick Brown from the Panthers. They don't have a 1st round pick next year. I remember before Saleh took over the Jets I suggested Quennin Williams and everyone laughed at me, dude became a baller. I think Derrick Brown would put this defense over the top.

if he can put the team over the top this year who cares about letting him walk in the offseason and losing the pick, we were going to waste it anyway.
Glad you don’t run the team. Taylor is 23 years old he’s not about to sign a one-year deal. He’s looking for a big long term contract and no RB is going to put anyone over the top. The Raiders had the top rusher in the league last season and missed the playoffs. It’s not like Jonathan Taylor has made the Colts a contender. They went 9-8 despite Taylor rushing for over 1800 yards in 2021.

I said IF, since you have trouble reading. It dosn't matter what he would or wouldn't sign, it would only be a rental for this season.

And what kind of dumb ish is the bolded? Did Christian McCaffrey make Carolina a contender?

I agree on him not putting us over the top. But I think he'll be disappointed when no team gives him a big, long term contract.

That's what teams seem to be doing now to veteran RBs. Giving them 1 year at a time contracts.

You wouldn’t know IF unless you made the trade. A 23 year old back who’s one of the top players in the game isn’t going to sign on as a one-year rental with anyone. As for Christian McCafferty, Carolina went 5-11 in 2019 when he rushed for over 1300 yards. Unless you’re getting great QB play, it doesn’t matter how many yards a back rushes for in today’s game. Teams are moving on from high priced RBs. The teams with the three top rushers last season missed the playoffs. I can ensure an RB isn’t going to put the Cowboys over the top. We moved on from an RB last season who put up 12 TDs. Only a couple of RBs put up more last season. Only a casual armchair fan would throw away a second round pick for a one year rental at RB. The only thing that’s going to put the Cowboys over the top is dramatically improving their run defense and redzone offense. Zeke was really good in the redzone and so was Dalton Schultz. They combined for 17 TDs last season, most coming in the redzone. We’re missing both players.

Taylor is only 23 he won’t accept a one-year contract. He’s looking to cash in now while he still has a lot left in the tank.

He's 24 and 260 days. He'll be 25 before the season is over. But whether or not he plays for 1 year deals might not be his choice. He's not going to skip a season if he doesn't get a long term deal.

so is that paragraph a no?

He’s still real young. I don’t see him accepting a one-year deal. He won’t be stuck not having a choice at that age. If he’s not traded, he’ll likely return to the Colts. No one will trade for him only for one year. They would lock him down to a multiyear deal.

You could be right. I just think teams are trending towards not giving out a lot of guaranteed money. Because no one knows when a RB will be washed up. Zeke was washed up around the same age. The one year deals takes care of that problem.

I'm sure a team could offer a RB a 5 year/60 Mil deal with just a 12M signing bonus. But the player would refuse that deal. That's still a contract on a year to year basis.

What paragraph, the one you bolded? I said it’s not like Jonathan Taylor has made the Colts a contender. The answer is no he hasn’t. If that’s not the answer you’re looking for then be specific.

He may not get the guaranteed money he wants, but he’s looking for a long-term deal that pays more than what he’s receiving now. Teams don’t want to commit big money to RBs these days, especially a lot of guaranteed money.

When they say they want a long term deal, they mean the guaranteed money. Like I said, any team can offer a RB a 10 year 100 million dollar contract, but if the guaranteed money is only a 10M signing bonus, that's basically a 1 year at a time deal.

They want some guaranteed money, all long-term deals have guaranteed money. No player would sign a 10 year $100 million deal with only a $10 million signing bonus. That’s not being real. Some players are looking for fully guaranteed contracts or at least a majority of it guaranteed. That’s never going to happen with an RB.

I agree 100%. I realize my example was an exaggeration, but even with that example, you'd stay until you're no longer worth keeping. I can understand why a RB wouldn't accept that, but I can also understand why teams don't want to continue paying a washed up player.

Being stuck long-term with an RB can come back to bite you. They age quick with a heavy workload and can hit a wall at any time. The NFL is no longer a 4 yards and a cloud of dust league. It’s all about the QB and passing the football. You score points in the passing game.

Yep. Can't deny that. But the run game has bailed out philly more than once this year. They are dominant on the ground. But that has a lot more to do with the OL.

It also has something to do with their QB who’s very mobile. He can scramble for yards and that “tush push” is moving the chains and putting points on the board for them.
