The Coming Cowboy Apocalypse (Stephen King and our O-Line)
Prologue

I am an optimist, widely known as such by family and friends. Lately however, I've felt haunted by dark dreams.

During the day I can dismiss my football nightmares. None of these recurring Stephen-King type visions will be fulfilled, I tell myself, and my Cowboys will make a run for a 2010 championship, perhaps culminating in a win in Dallas.

But at night I am at war against unsettling messages and dark images.

While Texas has been baking thus summer we in Anchorage Alaska have set an all-time record: 28 consecutive days of rain. In this cool, dreary time I've tried to get outside, undaunted, to enjoy my photographic hobby.

Here is a photo I shot last night, from Flattop mountain:

I have read where local natives view summer clouds as dreamcatchers. I try to dismiss it as crazy, but in the mist I see things. I see the same horrific images from my dreams. Fragments of the same nightmare. I close my eyes. I can't watch. It's a waking vision now and the words that come to mind when I'm forced to describe it: a Dallas Cowboys apocalypse.

My dreams began last March, when Jerry and the team were considering roster moves and the notion of releasing Flozell Adams. From thousands of miles away I saw Jones' north Texas home, and witnessed a cleaning lady airing out the basement at the Jones' estate. I saw that she was pretty, hard-working, but distracted. Not only did she fail to use the latch to lock the window. She left it wide open...

It
March 12, 2010. The Garrett Home.

Jason Garrett was just climbing out of his his car at the end of ridiculously long day when something startled him from the corner of his garage. It's nothing he assured himself.

Garrett found the discussion today at work troubling but he felt he had made his case convincingly. "You have to stop "It" he told Jerry and the other coaches. Every team has at least one of them, and you need an antidote. Actually, mused Jason, you need a line of apostles full of the holy ghost, ready to be martyrd to protect their quarterback.

The "It" in Garrett's thinking is a Jared Allen or Pat Williams, a Trent Cole or Will Smith.

Jason continued, "Let another team unloose 'It' and drives die, games slide, seasons perish. People get hurt."

"We only had 3 good lineman last year, six that were serviceable. The last thing we need to do is thin ourselves at the position."

Pressure kills offense. We need to stop It.

Garrett took a step back, surprised by the conviction of his words and the categorical wisdom in them. He felt sure his advice would be heeded.

“...So do we pass the ghosts that haunt us later in our lives; they sit undramatically by the roadside like poor beggars, and we see them only from the corners of our eyes, if we see them at all. ”

-Stephen King

Ugh! I heard Nate Newton talking about the beginning of the end to our O Line. He doesn't have faith in them. Nate & Galloway think we should've kept Flo. Someone said that he doesn't look good in Pittsburgh though. I'm not gonna think like that right now. I want the Cowboys to win too badly.

A Bag of Bones

A blue norther crossed the Red River and poured into north Texas. Cold air that had puddled in the Jones basement began to issue a draft throughout the home.

Jerry Jones felt a chill. He didn't know the source of the chill, but he spat a curse in its direction. He adjusted his sweater and poured himself a double. Feeling strangely dizzy he started to go to the kitchen in search of an evening refreshment, but something seemed to hold him near the phone. He picked it up, "Stephen," he said flatly "we need to let Flo go."

He's a big walking penalty, and he's costing me millions.

"No, Stephen. I've decided. He's too stiff. He's gone. He's dead man walking tomorrow morning at Valley Ranch. He's a bag of bones."

Will this movie end in a gory mess or in triumph? My visions...do they come only to terrorize me...or to warn?

Please do Pet Sematary. That movie still creeps me out much like our current O-Line situation.

LOL. I'm having a hard time connecting Ellie's cat to anyone but David Buehler.

"I believe in Santa Claus. I believe in The Easter Bunny. I believe in the Tooth Fairy. But I dont believe in you. This is battery acid. And now you disappear."

It has always been my second favorite made-for-television Stephen King mini-series. Only The Stand beats it (no pun intended) in my opinion.

I still feel sorry for Richard Masur's character. He lived in fear of Pennywise his whole life and that fear finally killed him, but he didn't have to commit suicide in the bathroom!

The Quarterback

From the sleepy town of Burlington Wisconsin hailed a young boy with a heart full of kindness and a truckload of talent.

Tony Romo has always been able to impose his will on a basketball or football game.

But every athlete has his nemisis.

We all need a personal life-long clown to cheer us up in this crazy world. :)

Between the OL and Garrett's playcalling, especially under pressure, I think it'll be a tough for us to advance far in the playoffs.

Jerry Jones - "I am no longer concerned about the offensive line at all.''

In every scary movie it seems the protagonist walks willingly into the haunted house.

There is no urgency...until...

Complacency gives way to utter DESPERATION.
