They did. Then Jerry forced TO down his throat and he quit. Would have loved to see what this team could have done if Parcells had a few years with Romo instead of 10 games.

I'm the biggest Romo basher in the country, but every now and then, I make excuses for him. You have to look closely, because it's like once every 2 years or so. Deep down, I think the coaches around Romo except for Parcells' who only had him for a half year, has ruined him.

If Coach Reid or Bellichick were here, you'd probably see a different scenario. Maybe they could cure his clutchness issue as well. But we'll never know because I don't remember the last time we had a great young coach.

I can't gaze into an alternate dimension but I think that if Parcells had stayed we would have eventually won it all.

I'm as big a Parcells homer as there was on this board, but I think Bill was tired and burnt at the end. I don't think we would have gotten there with him.

The problem was replacing him with another Jerry puppet in Wade, and now further cronyism with Red.

If we could have gotten Payton to take over for Bill this would be an entirely different franchise right now.

and they are dragging the future stars with them.

How many more coaches is it going to take?

If JG is fired than the core of this team needs to go as well. They don't fight back when they are punched in the mouth and they make the same silly mistakes that drove Parcells nuts. Everyone has seen it on Sundays and enough is enough...

I'm willing to bet money that the next HC is going to have the same problems as the previous ones' have had if this core group stays together.

I said this last year. I really feel like we needed to move on from dare I say it Romo and some of the others(Ware, Witten, Austin) gradually. This team just needs to start over. Forcing this down our throats year after year has really wore me and most Cowboy fans down. I'm going to be honest. I hate that contract extension Romo got. I like Tony, he's a nice classy guy but he just doesn't have it. I know there will be Romo lovers that will get on for this(as if I care) but I see so many QB's around the league that have command of the huddle, throw the ball with authority into tight windows and I feel like every draft other teams get these guys while we're still sitting here with Romo putting up stats but not wins. I know it's not all his fault but you have to start with the QB who is the head of the team on the field.

I'm all for gettting Witten, Austin and Ware out of Dallas June 1st, JG and his staff axed...and I honestly don't care about the consequences. Draft a QB, DE very early, and take your lumps....it's better than season after season of mediocrity.

Ah yes.. The Garrett homers were at full force telling us the tram fights for Garrett and now that they quit on Garrett they are telling us they never had fight with them in the first place...

So where are the excuses for Wade with these same bunch of guys allegedly giving up on him? Karma has come to Garrett.. Let's just hope JJ isn't drunk enough to not see it..

I tend to believe the core of this team is Sean Lee, Romo, Demarco and Dez..........

When I talk about the core, I mean the old core and I think the OP meant the same. The guys who have blood on their hands from disastrous seasons dating back to 2008: Garrett, Romo, Austin, Witten, Spencer, Ware. They've all got to go and Witten may be the only exception, since this team has yet to get the whole drafting a TE thing right.

As much as it pains me to say this conversation has merit. And if I'm not mistaken Romo's deal can be done after 3 without much harm. If that's the case, and JJ has to cojones to do it, then I just feel bad for Romo to usher this team into a retool. Except he gets a hot wife and a bunch of money.

But we all know that's not going to happen. I keep chirping for years...you like the cowboys, you might as well accept jerry and the jonses will be who you're laying your bets with.

ugh no i can't join you there clove. i'm tired of the "romo friendly" crap. why does everything around him have to be perfect for this team to be successful? he has been bad for a month now. errant throws everywhere. i'm just over him and the rest of this core. i've been over them. it's why i hated the extension. with the qbs coming out in the '14 draft, we should have let romo play out his contract then make a decision at the end of this season. instead we invested 20% of our future cap on a noodle arm qb who is hearing footsteps on every other play. things are going to get very ugly around here the next few years. i'm talking campo bad.

Thank you for looking past hope and change and coming to the conclusion that this is the players.

But JG needs to go because he couldn't motivate girl scouts to chase an ice cream truck.

Again, what core are you talking about? The only guys from the Parcells guys still on the roster are:

Romo
Witten
Austin
Ware
Hatcher
Ladouceur

If that is all you are talking about, there isn't much to blow up. If you think Romo is bad, look at how much money guys like Matt Flynn, Matt Cassel, Kevin Kolb, Josh Freeman, Carson Palmer and other scrubs have received over the last few years. Guys like Romo don't come around often. He isn't going anywhere.

The rest of the guys on that list are probably gone next year.

they have been lifeless for few years now. Options are limited so just hang in there.

These are the guys that I are the core of this team...the "old" faces of the franchise.

Romo - he's losing the deep ball, his mechanics get worse each year, and his new found involvement in the weekly game planning is concerning considering the circumstances.

Austin - he's been hurt more the last few years than healthy.

Witten - can't get open against the younger, faster LBs and Ss in the league.

Spencer - the knee is a major concern.

Ware - he's falling apart year after year before our eyes.

The problem I see is that there is no coach that is going to turn around there physical limitations.

There was a point during the game where Witten dropped another pass and I looked at him walking back to the huddle and hit me that these guys have passed their prime. It really saddens me and I'm not bearing any ill will. It happens to every guy at some point but yes, it's time to start trying to find a new way forward.

I agree. They're old and the culture of losing is so engrained, I don't think there's anything they can do anymore.
This season we need to begin a rebuilding process, starting with the coaches. Ware, Romo and Witten are basically done. They're not going to be winning any more big games for us. We've basically wasted their better years.

We just need to start from scratch.
