The Cowboys are playing up (or down) to their competition

Yes, tell me about the dumb self-inflicted penalties.
And the injuries.
And all the rest.

Still, it seems that these Cowboys, for whatever reason, are playing up to the skill level of the competition.

These Cowboys, for all the great press they receive, really should have left the Bills and now the Vikes in tatters. Beat them by 20+ points. Yet, we let these teams hang in there until the Cowboys offense and defense decide it is time to play football and stop toying with their prey.

So glad we have a bye week coming up. We'll need to time to reassert ourselves as an elite NFL team. Time to heal injuries and time for Wade to read the riot act to players who keep finding ways to stifle drives or let the opposing offense to make the big play.

I cannot decide if this is a great Cowboy team that has will itself to win or a lucky team coached by a well-meaning but soft coach who cannot get the team's attention when it comes to the basics: Such as not commiting dumb penalties. And executing for four quarters and not only the second half.

harumph!

I have actually thought about this earlier in the season. The Buffalo game to be exact.

Who knows if there is something legit in there somewhere or if it is just coincidence.

Dallas is 6-1 in the NFL many would love to be sitting where we are right now. Dallas has played down to team at times but then in the 40 some odd years of watching this franchise that is not suprising. Bottom line in the NFL winning does not come easy and we are 6-1 if you want to question why be my guest myself I'm going to enjoy the 6-1 and look for this team to get better and more experianced within the system and with the staff.

Well, we are all enjoying the 6-1 going into the bye.
But the way the team has struggled at time, it could easily be 4-3.
And this team is waaaay too good to be 4-3.
Listen, we're all happy with 6-1. But these sluggish starts and maybe-we-will-maybe-we-won't late-game modes have got to be addressed.

Motivation.
The sense of urgency.
Execution.

I hope Wade addresses these during the next two weeks and has a heart-to-heart with his team on these three areas.

Almost every team that has a winning record "could easily" be a game or two worse. That's the nature of the league. What is it, something like 70% of all games are decided by 3 points or less?

People have this misguided notion that good teams blow everyone out, and it's simply not true. The mid-90s teams didn't win by huge margins every week. It may seem like it in hindsight, but they didn't.

But I guess some people won't be happy unless we win like the Pats.

I'd give you the Bills game, but even that game....it wasn't handed to us...the defense stepped up and kept us in that game.

The Giants, which I assume is the other loss - 1st game of the season...new coach, new defense, new offense....to me that game really never counts. You can't tell anything after the first game of the season. We're both to different teams right now.

The Vikings - not sure about most, but it never seemed like a game we would lose. We pretty much dominated that game, even if the final score didn't say so.

We basically demolished the Dolphins, Rams, and Bears.

We played a tough game against the Giants, who have run off 5 in a row.

We shot ourselves in the foot numerous times, and still beat a Bills team who I think has played relatively well so far this season. They hang around against most teams.

We played with the Pats for 3 quarters.

We beat a Vikings team coming off a 300 APY performance by their RB against the Bears. The spread was 9.5 and we beat em by 10.

Are you really under all this angst because of a 10 point victory??

If this had been Bill's team it would have likely been a 3 point game.... that ball control, don't-beat-yourselves, mentality.

We never stop attacking on offense. When you have that kind of style, yes you are going to have some mistakes, and they may allow a bad team to hang around for a while. But when it clicks, you get blowouts, and you're always in a game if you fall behind.

Yesterday our D gave up an opening drive TD to the Vikings, and shut em out the rest of the way. If our offense secures the ball a little better, that is at least a 31-7 game.

It's just the nature of the offense we're running. And I like it.

We could be 4-3 but we are not and in past year maybe we would have been or worse. This team is doing what they have to do to win games and as I said who said it was easy to win in the NFL? by most former coaches and players most will tell you 6-1 is damn good in this league even going up aginst some so called push overs. You mentioned the Bills the same Bills who beat the mighty Ravens yesterday? I think too many around here love predicting these 48 to 10 scores but it is not easy to win in the NFL.

Even the 90s Boys teams didn't "blow everyone out." In fact they occasionally got blown out themselves.

That's the way i prefer looking at it. If we can cut out these stupid mistakes, we will become a very good football team IMO.

you better duck when you call a spade a spade...some of us look at 6-1 and are elated....but I am with you...that is not the point...we are ALL elated with 6-1....but the longest playoff win drought in the FRANCHISE HISTORY needs to end and it needs to END THIS YEAR...if we do not play up to our talent level it will be another dissapointing December and postseason

If someone gives you a $100 bill do you give it back because it has a torn corner? No you take it to the bank and deposit it, and later withdraw it for five twenty dollar bills.............In other words we should be happy that our team has a 6-1 record and is realistically 3-4 wins from making the playoffs because of the weakness of the other teams in the NFC...

I agree, and I am happy. I just think we're a team and a fanbase that is very close to not having to worry about other teams and their strengths or weaknesses. If we can correct the mistakes, and play up to our potential, I think 6-1 becomes the norm for this team.

I am very happy that we are 6-1.I am not very happy that a couple of the games we have won inspite of ourselves. No defense has been able to stop this offense yet. Including the Patriots. The FACT that this offense is making a habit out of stopping itself should be a concern for any fan of the team.Beating the Bills and the Vikings of the world by a realtively narrow margin is good but leaving a TON of points on the field because of mental mistakes is not.It cost us the game against the Pats and it will cost us games against our divisional opponets and in the playoffs if it is not fixed.

guys its the nfl. You're going to have close games a lot of the time. We've actually demolished most teams we've played. Look at the colts last year. They had so many close games with teams they should have easily handled and we all know how the season ended for them!

:hammer:

If we were winning every game by 30 points, then when we got into the playoffs people would be wondering if we had been "tested" enough.

Winning the close ones shows the character of the team... the ability to bounce back from a slow start, the ability to deal with adversity, and still come out on top.

the big point is they are NOT 4-3, they are 6-1.

I guess people always have to complain about something in today's society given it is so negative, but damn can we not enjoy 6-1 without saying, oh we could be worse?
