I saw this little tidbit in Star Mag. We drafted Bill Musgrave in 1991 and Quincy Carter in 2002. No other QB has been drafted by the team in 17 years! I find that amazing. I never would've realized it without reading it.

The guy they drafted before Musgrave turned out pretty decent. :D

That stat isn't correct.

Stanback was a QB in college, and we drafted him.

So, technically we've taken 3 QB's in the draft.

BOOOO YA!

That's interesting...of course you have to factor in that when they had Troy I guess they didn't feel the need to worry about drafting QBs for all those years cause they had not only Garrett on the team but they always signed veteran back-ups.

The fact that they have only drafted Carter since Aikman left though is quite alarming.

He stunk.

I believe he was talking about at QB and was refering to Aikman. At least that was the impression I got.

Romo was drafted, but you cant not mention him. We signed him as a rookie f/a and developed him. He worked out better than ALOT of guys who were drafted that yr and since.

The idea that you should draft a QB every yr just for the sake of drafting one is proposterus to me. What happens when you have a starter, backup and developmental #3 guy that your team likes? Do you keep drafting them even with no roster spot available?

Steve Walsh? No, he wasn't decent, but at least they suckered the Saints into trading for him. :laugh2:

He's not mentioned because he wasn't drafted. Which was the point of the topic that we've only used 2 draft picks on QBs since 1991. A guy no one probably even really remembers in 1991 and then that moron who'd rather throw his life away than work harder on improving his very average skills later on.

And? Isnt the point to develop a young QB? We did that with Romo and also did it with Jason Garrett, who turned into a quality backup for several years.

I agree. Since the draft was reduced from 12 rounds to 7 it does make a difference in the philosophy in drafting a QB every year. Now you have to make use of UDFA. Dallas did it with Romo and Matt Moore.

The Cowboys did not need to draft a QB each draft, but they also should not have gone the opposite end of the spectrum by not drafting QBs at all. One or two more through the draft would have been a good idea or at least a better idea than trading a 3rd for a guy who hadn't played football for 3 years or signing another guy who also had not played football in several years.

I still can't believe we let him go.

If we would've just kept Matt Moore than we'd have no reason to draft anyone.

You don't ever never ever let a QB walk that has shown signs that he can play.
