we were extremely fortunate on turnovers last year considering our lack of pass rush. With Hardy and company our pass rush will be much better this year so a regression there should not be too bad as the turnovers will be forced instead of fortunate. Our D should be better- for all its so called improvement last year it really came down to TOP and keeping the D off the field so that it could not screw up. Which is what happened in the previous years when garrett refused to stick with the run when it was working. He seemed to learn the lesson finally last year and hope he remembers. This year we have the hope the D will be actuall and not smoke and mirrors. Because remember when it really counted it could not pressure a one legged QB last year.

Also really baffled at your "don't get your hopes too high" line.

That makes no sense.

As fans we have the luxury of optimism. Hope is a great feeling. We don't get the million dollar checks but they can't take our good feelings. They provide us with enough bad ones that the good ones are ours darnit.

Most seasons end in disappointment and what could of beens. But you're essentially saying try not to enjoy the ride too much.

I'll pass on that myself.

I'm baffled that you're baffled!?!...:)

I don't agree with the OP, but the words don't leave me baffled.

I also prefer to enjoy the journey... it's what any reasonable fan should do.

As a fan I'm always optimistic till proven wrong
I do agree with Murray, he may have left yards on the field but he also got tons of yards after contact
He will be missed and I don't think the guys we have will replace what he did
But, I don't think they have to for the offense to be effective
We don't need the run game to be as good as we had with Murray. We need it to be effective and put us in short 3rd down position
I would love to have a Murray or any really good RB. But history shows us you don't need a great RB or a great WR to win the super bowl
You need a defense that can get your opponent off the field. You need an offense that can move the ball and put up points. There are many ways to do that and many teams who have won it all and didn't have great RB or WR
I would love to have both but if the defense is better. Not top 5 but able to get teams off the field
If the offense can be effective, not run it down our opponents throats but run effective and create makeable 3rd downs
If you can do those things you can win
You make not have the best run game or best pass game but if they can both be good and you can convert 3rd downs you can win in this league
There are many questions on this team but I gotta think we have more answers going into this season than last
All we have to do is get it done, we have the pieces and while they may not be as good in some spots they may be better in others

Nice post...but only Romo lost all those games.
Well, that is according to some trolls...

you look at the history of the SB and there are many one time winners who just put it all together at the right time. When Peyton won his ring he pretty much was at best mediocre the entire playoffs but late in the season his D was healthy (Bob Sanders for probably about the only time in his career late in the season) and his running game - Addai mainly- played very well when it mattered.

Look at the Raiders when Plunkett was with them- their skill position players were mostly guys who had career years or great stretches when it mattered when they won their two. While when they had Stabler, Biletnikoff , Branch and Casper and the rest of the cast in the 70' they only won ONE.

To each is own. Wasn't trying to tell you how to live, but from my point of view the higher you get the farther you fall and the harder you hit.

The current RB's don't need to replace Murray's production. No RB can, it was a great year, and Murray himself may not have been able to repeat it. Heck of AP was here, he may not either.

They RB's as well as the entire team just need to execute well to be productive. I am not looking at a 1500 yard runner, but a good sound balance of running and passing.

Yes the players are younger on D but they are also better than what has been here the past 4 years. It is better than last year when most had us being miserable on D.

Knew the negative stuff would start soon. maybe it's the pre camp jitters of what we may see. But not for me, I am anxious to see.
Someone once said R.E.L.A.X. Some guy up North.
It is appropriate here too......RB's will be fine....Defense will be fine.

I am focused on how many comments through the entire TC will be about Tony looking fat....lol....

This is a different team, with different coaches, and players who buy into the mindset and are mostly known for being hard-working guys that love the game.

The offense has been a Super Bowl worthy offense for several years and is even better with Dez Bryant gaining full control of the route tree, and our OL solidifying itself as possibly the top unit in the league. The defense has been the achilles heel ever since Ryan's short debacle, the draft goof of Claiborne, and a general lack of talent on that side of the ball.

Beating up on the Seahawks at home where they have been unbeatable, nearly beating the Packers in Lambeau in a do or die playoff atmosphere. You do not win those games without mental fortitude. This is the deepest and most talented team I can remember, with not only an incredibly motivating coaching staff, but a mindset instilled that quitting is not an option.

Regressing, in my opinion, is simply unimaginable to me. Barring a significant number of injuries, of course. Granted, a lot of things have to go correctly to obtain 12-4 for any team in the NFL, regardless of talent. However, if we can remain relatively healthy, 10-6 will be the floor of what this team accomplishes. This team will not allow themselves to achieve any less, and they certainly have the ability to do much bigger things.

What nation?

Because almost every national magazine and most media sources are predicting we are not going to the playoffs. The same idiots that had us as a 3-6 win team last year are saying 6-9 wins this year.

Haven't seen that at all, but I don't branch out as much as I used to.

A few things changed last year that led to a new level of success over the previous years.

The largest, in my view, was the solid commitment to the running game. Even when it was working well, that says we are a physical 4 quarters team and that we will break you down. That did not happen before last year and that single thing is want needs to happen this year again. I could less who runs the ball as long as they committed to running the ball under center.

Making Romo carry the entire load via shotgun and exposing a piece meal defense will get a large step back. It's on that coaching staff IMHO to stay the course.

Another is a complete overvaluation of DeMarco Murray

The longer he is gone, the more average he becomes around here apparenty.

I somewhat understand the arrogance about the OL, but what I do not understand is the growing denial that he was just another RB who can be immediately replaced by a career bust in McFadden or otherwise unreliable reserve like Randle.

The last time there was this much hype, the Cowboys won 6 games and Wade got fired. Talk is cheap. The Cowboys have to go out and prove it. And they better be able to run the ball because that is the key. This team is not passing itself to a SB.
