So fans going with no evidence they will be good (typical). However, there is no evidence they will be bad.

Remember we now have Zimmer.

I just said this in a different thread but I think that the one thing Dallas may have addressed this offseason is run defense. Between the change of scheme, the new people, etc. I think that Dallas isn't going to get pushed around as much as they were at times last year.

This may come at the expense of the pass defense. DQ basically put everything towards generating pressure on pass D without compromising big plays there. I would not be surprised if we see less turnovers and less pass pressure with more long plays.
Yes they wont but the key to effective run defense starts with DTs and we dont have a single one that would start on a contender

This is all Hopium for now

"For Years to come" is a joke. Can you spell "FREE ANGENCY and SALARY CAP.?
This isn't the NFL.
Can you? I mean we do get a few years, plus we love to over pay homegrown players so there's that.

I dunno. Dallas started the year with effectively 3 linebackers last year with LVE, Clarke and Overshown. Two of them got injured and Dallas had a safety fill in.

It would be hard to be worse than that.

The Cowboys linebacker position has the potential to be a strength for a long time.
By MLenix84 May 4, 2024

One of the things the Dallas Cowboys had to do this offseason was get their linebacker room in order. The experiment with Markquese Bell at the position had some high notes, but he needs to go back to his natural spot playing safety. Dallas decided to go the veteran free agent route and picked up not only Eric Kendricks, but also Damien Wilson as of Monday.

Marist Liufau is the shiny new toy in the linebacker room. Taken in the third round, Liufau will be play strong side or Sam linebacker to start, according to linebackers coach Scott McCurley. His sideline-to-sideline ability mixed with long arms and skills to cover a lot of ground in space make him a perfect weapon in the middle, and he gets to learn from multiple veterans right off the bat. However, there's also the potential for Liufau at middle linebacker as well with his skill set per McCurley. So, the Kendricks and Wilson additions can be impactful there.

Two years ago, the Cowboys took a chance on Damone Clark, who was coming off spinal fusion surgery just before the NFL draft. The flashes were there as a rookie, and he even played well for the most part in 2023. However, the injury the Leighton Vander Esch forced him to play middle linebacker when he's more suited to play the weakside or Will role, which he'll do in 2024. Now, Clark can show more of his talent with this comfort level and get to use his athleticism and excellent tackling ability.

DeMarvion Overshown was arguably the draft pick from last season that had the most buzz behind it. A former safety, Overshown was set to come in and make an immediate impact with a big role, but he unfortunately torn his ACL in the preseason. Luckily, that gave him a full year to recover, and he's expected to be ready for training camp.

Clark, Overshown, and Liufau are the future core of the linebacker room in Dallas. Having Kendricks and Wilson to mentor them will pay huge dividends this season

The Boys needed to fix the linebacker position and brought in a mixture of vets and youth. So yea, I’m looking forward to it as well.

A team that is bad stopping the run has no business drafting Liufau. Everything about this pick bothered me then and it still bothers me now. He’s great against the pass but awful against the run. We already had that guy in Bell. There was so much talent on the board at pick 87 this reach really irks me. Then I find out San Fran offered a trade to drop back 7 spots and we turned it down. That extra pick could have been used to grab a RB. Did they think someone would take Marist in the next 7 picks? No one else had him that high. Heck they didn’t even have him that high. They just knew they didn’t have another pick til late 5. Why not make the trade with San Fran? It’s mind boggling.

And injury. 17 games plus playoffs take their toll. Old archaic ways of building rosters need to be chucked...which means the old archaic people building them might need to go with them!

Dallas lacks a real stud MLB. Kendricks is a temporary bandaid and the new guy was projected as a nickle LB. They are overly worried about the pass so they keep opting to bring in tweeners when what they need is a tough run specialist to go along with these other guys.

We do need a top MLB type and we still do not have him. Can we be better than last year? Certainly. Will we? Maybe.

We have had LBs that had the talent but were always injured (Lee and LVE)
Will always wonder what Jaylon could have been without the injury but probably all pass rush or something like that; he simply did not have the instincts

Unproven guys and vets on the decline

D-Shon, Marist are yet unproven ...Clark and Damien have the JAG look, ..and Hendricks is ex-Pro Bowler clearly on the decline.
but at least the club has tried to dam-finger holes in the LB wall. And we've selected LBs as high as 3rd rd.

It's a wait and see approach with D-Shon, Marist. the hope is Hendricks can bring it IQ leadership wise, and ade m.quate run stopper.

Considering Clark will be back at the position he should be at and Overshown and Liufau haven't even played one down of regular season football yet, what evidence could there be?
I think too many people miss the part of Clark playing out of position.

Let him play his more natural sport with a strong Mike next to him and let him soar.

Look at how getting a good Mike and moving back to his natural position helped Patrick Queen.

The league changed to a passing league years ago. You dont need that mayn LBs anymore. You need one in the middle and then hybrids like DQ used them.

The standard defense today assembles 1 or 2 LBs on first and ten.

Now because we were run to death because we had not one legit LB on the roster and lacked the NTs to stop the run everybody is flipping from one extreme to the other.
LBs wont stop the run on their own. And too many of them will make our defense way too slow for todays offenses.

Shiny new toy? Guy was a 5/6 grade on most boards. He isn’t Ray Lewis.

I would have taken the Cowboys more seriously if they didnt take a 5th Round Projection LB in the Third while having the best LB in the Draft (Wilson) still on the board, that was injury prone in HS and early College but played 12 games last year without seeming to be impacted. Won LB and Defender of the year
