Micah Parsons is a game changer. He makes the defense work. They have to re-sign him whatever it takes.

I like CeeDee and Diggs, but they find a way to survive without either of them. They can draft replacements if they have to ot sign guys like Gilmore to get by.

Dak is the problem. His current contract was such a huge mistake by Dallas. Not only did they overpay him, but they agreed to a 4 year deal, no trade clause, and no franchise tag clause. Then they restructure the deal twice pushing $36 million into voided years. They compounded these other mistakes by not drafting a potential replacement they could groom to be ready for 2025. They basically put themselves into a position where they have no choice but to re-sign him. But what if he asks for $60 million? or $65 million? Dak will get re-signed or extended before his current deal is up.

The time to move on from Dak was when he demanded $40 million and 4 years with his last deal. I would have said no. I would have given him $32 million over 4 years and only $40 million if he signed for 6 years.
I prefer to stabilize the two most important positions in today's NFL and this is receptions and defense of the pass. They are very youthful and top levels of both WR and CB. They are keepers here and now.

Parsons is a defensive leader on the level of the offense's QB.

Philadelphia is already to drafting close to playing defensive linemen, already with their young quarterback eyeing top league money. The only derailing element for them will be serious injury of him when time runs out carrying the ball. That would be like when Romo and Prescott were out for injury. It changes things and backups have to be up for the deal on the table.

The Dallas Cowboys have some of the NFL’s best football players. From the moment he stepped onto the field, Micah Parsons established himself as one of the best defensive players in the league, earning Defensive Player of the Year votes in each of his first two seasons. CeeDee Lamb wasn’t supposed to be available when the Cowboys were on the clock in the first round of 2020, but the nation’s top collegiate receiver was passed up and now he’s wearing the star and is one of the top receivers at the pro level. And Trevon Diggs was the first player to have 11 picks in 40 years as he’s emerged as one of the game’s best corners.

All three of these guys wasted no time becoming All-Pros. All three of them play one of the most important positions in the NFL. And amazingly, all three weren’t on the roster a few years ago. And when you add Dak Prescott to the mix, the Cowboys have four strong players at four strong positions. What is even more satisfying is that three of them are still playing under their rookie deals. They’ve hit the ground running and the Cowboys are getting great production for a cheap price. That is similar to what Dallas had in Prescott during his super-cheap, fourth-round price rookie deal.

While it’s great to have so much talent at key positions, it can also be costly as talent doesn’t stay cheap for long. The front office knows this and has been preparing, much to the dismay of Cowboys fans. They’ve gotten out of the contracts of Amari Cooper, Ezekiel Elliott, and La’el Collins, all of which were atop the Cowboys payroll not very long ago. They’ve also allowed key players to leave in free agency like Randy Gregory, Byron Jones, and Dalton Schultz.

These decisions are not easy, but they are necessary. In fact, the Cowboys have cleared out enough contracts that their top two contracts now consist of the following:

  • Dak Prescott at $40 million (9th-highest in the league)
  • Zack Martin at $14 million (135th-highest in the league)
That is a huge gap between a team’s top-paid player and their second-highest-paid player...

Perhaps that's why they didn't sign a big name.

Cowboys have done a good job managing the cap. The salary cap is going to go up a lot with the new TV deals.

That part of the mission will get done...and I figure Dak will be realistic this time around. How many shoes and clothes can one purchase? We're talking about vacation resorts in five states as well.

No. It's all a game to get your reply.

well, this is a bit misleading. what's the same analysis for all the other teams? with that said, Guards aren't usually highest paid. why not compare to LT or RT or CB, etc. for those that are not on rookie contract. I looked through and the highest paid Guard in the league is Chris Lindstrom at 20m AAV in 2023, second highest is Zach Martin.
at the end of the day, its a guard position regardless of how good they are. no one ever says we need to have the best guard to make it to the superbowl. not saying you don't need good OL men, but guard!

relatively speaking, the highest paid LT is making 25M AAV, for WR that's 30M, edge is 28M and QB is 52M.

its the market and how NFL values different positions.

One can select special examples all he wishes. Direction was pointed by the author of the quote. It was solid.

Know who the currently second highest paid player is right now? Martin ... a guard!

Cap management. That's Jerry's job. Big cap hits are what matters. The big cap hits for these star players won't happen for several years. Parsons in either 2026 or 2027. Who knows what the cap will be by that time?

I know, but as I mentioned, its because of multiple players on rookie contracts. Diggs, Parsons, Lamb about to get paid. its temporary. and as I said, QBs are highest paid on average. highest paid QB. 52M, the next is 30M at WR. its typical

You are creative and a Cowboy fan...both winners with myself.

At this point, I'm attempting to improve factual knowledge of all involved. With some on site, not limited to a 'sanctioned' hero worship, only...

All of their players will get signed and they will have cap room left over. Sorry to spoil the nancies’ fun
A bunch of guys who haven't proven they can get beyond the divisional round will get signed. Whose fun is being spoiled? Seems like all of us.

I dont see it being a problem. Cowboys are in good shape on the cap going forward. Getting rid of all the big ones that arent producing. Zeke being the last one dragging us down.

Tyron's comes off next year, I dont expect Gilmore to be back and his 13 million. Gallup possibly is gone and his 12 million.

Need to keep at least one between Steele and Biadasz.

Dak needs to get it done this year, if not then I am quite fine in finding someone else.
