Hey Den...looking forward to Saturday?

Absolutely CC. All the injuries (again!) on defense have me bummed a bit, but I'm looking forward to watching the offense and hoping some of the young guys on D step up. Maybe guys like Will Smith, Hitchens, Mitchell, Bishop, and Coleman start to show that they can not only make the team but contribute a bit this year. Coleman looks promising and I'll hope for the best from the rest. I was really looking forward to watching D. Lawrence this preseason, but at least he should be back in October.

The historically bad defense is one reason for the pervasive pessimism. However, the bigger reason is recent history. The team has developed a certain reputation, which, fair or not, taints how people see them.

The head coach botching games that would be wins for anybody else contributes to that reputation, fair or not

I don't know about favored, but they did win 5 of 6 in the division last season with the 32nd ranked defense.

Problem is EaGirls won the division with 29th ranked defense. In fact the Eagirls had the 32nd Pass defense last year.

What's the problem?

It was response to the xwalker's post about Cowboys wining 5 out of 6 division games with 32nd defense. Yes that's good and all but the Eagirls won the division with a defense almost as bad as ours with a rookie HC.

I'd rather have a great offense than a great defense in today's NFL. I mean we all know which side of the ball the NFL prefers.

The East is up for grabs by any team in the division.

It's isn't going to be easy but I wouldn't be surprised if the Cowboys win the East.

You're kidding RIGHT?? In any team sport, DEFENSE wins championships, offense needs to be consistent with no turn overs. Obviously, you did not see the Super Bowl last year when the big time Bronco offense was MANHANDLED by the Seattle defense and made them look like Pop Warner football!!!

I agree except the NFL today. The Seahawks are an anomaly. The league is trying to fix that now with all the emphasis on defensive holding.

Offense wins in today's fantasy football NFL.

That fact that they won the division by barely beating our backup QB in the last week of the season makes their accomplishment less impressive in my eyes. They took advantage of the situation which is great, but the fact that we swept the division with our starting QB is reason for some hope IMO (especially when I think our offense will be better).

I'll say it. Yes, only preseason, but the Eagles looked pretty good last night in their final tuneup.

I suspect their defense is going to be better than people around here think. For example, their safeties were dreadful and while Malcolm Jenkins isn't Jairus Byrd or Earl Thomas, he's much better than the slop they trotted out last year. Offensively, I don't expect Foles to go with only 2 interceptions all season like last year but I suspect in that offense he'll still put up huge numbers. Then throw in the proverbial "2nd year under a new head coach improvement" and I think the Eagles are going to be a very good team this year.

I'd like to think we are the class of the division, but it's pretty obvious to me why most people think the Eagles are the class of the division.

I can't see how we are not considered a favorite to win the East. I'll put this out there right now: our D stinks, but so does every other D in the East. The team that can run up the score, say have the potential to score 30+ most games, will win this division. The only two teams that have that offense in our division are us and the Eagles.

The Giants look rather putrid so far. Eli's new target can't stay healthy, so it looks like salsa boy will be Eli's only reliable receiver week to week. While the Giants probably have the best D in the division--and that ain't saying much--I can't see how they are going to score against the better defenses in the league. Both of their lines have holes and will be somewhat of a work in progress during the season.

The Commanders have an improving o-line and nice weapons on offense (I think Morris could be a top 5 back), but there is something about RG3 that doesn't look right. His legs look like they are about to snap every time he takes a hit. He still doesn't look like he did during his rookie season. If he doesn't learn how to avoid contact, he will be the next Vick, minus the dog fighting and prison stay. The Skins look weak on the right side of their o-line, and teams do get pressure on RG3. Let's see how Jackson reacts to RG3 running for his life and looking to Garcon first and not him.

The Eagles look like their D couldn't stop a runny nose. There's actually not all that bad in the secondary, but since their d-line can't get a pass rush, the secondary is hung out to dry. I don't think losing Jackson will hurt them as much as others believe, since Jackson has disappeared in the past in big games against tight coverage. But Maclin is another injury waiting to happen. They do have McCoy, who can go beast mode on any given play, and an excellent o-line. Maclin, if healthy, is a darn good player, and Cooper has size and will fight for the ball. They have good tight ends too, Sproles to spell McCoy, and a nice looking rookie in Matthews. They will score points, but man that run D is horrid.

Our 'Boys have the best QB in the division, the best single talent at WR, maybe the deepest WR group, a very good RB in Murray, a soon to be top five o-line, and the best tight ends in the division. Yes, our D stinks, but who else has one that is much better in the East? This is the year Romo takes us back to the playoffs. Who in the East can stop us?

Offense, we are fine. Defense - they will have the peeks and valleys, however they need to be health in Dec to make the run for the east title. We will see... I am excited to see the defensive play since they are going to be young, although mistakes will be in the process.....

My only point was that they Cowboys won 5 of 6 in a year when their defense was the worst which shows that the other teams in the division were not very good last year either.

I don't generally like to predict what will happen because it probably comes down to injuries again anyway. If the Eagirls have a bunch of injuries and the Cowboys stay healthy, the Cowboys could easily better better. I enjoy just seeing what really happens and then analyzing why it happened.

This.

The Cowboys have as good a chance as any team in the NFC East to win the division. The healthiest team (starters) in December will probably win.

I leave predictions to Nostradamus and El Walter.

You got me on the El Walter reference. I don't know that one.

Considering that we have very little depth in our lines, very little talent on our defense, an abundance of injuries(and a shortage on luck) it would take several devastating blows to unseat the Eagals as big favorites in the NFC East,,, they're starting off a lot sharper this year. The Cowboys need to pray that DLaw and Spencer make it back and contribute significantly in the second half of the season.

If Romo plays all 16 games, bad defense or not, this team will be in the hunt come week 17. This team has always been competitive with Romo under the helm, regardless of the poor defensive play and this year should be no different. The people predicting worse than 6-10 and last place in the division are definitely taking a very pessimistic view, since Romo has been the starter this team has only finished worse than 8-8 once. If I were a betting man I'd say we finish between 7-9 or 10-6.
