And it's equally ridiculous to think a player that has been trying to win during 4 years or so of high school and 4 years or so of college ball can all of a sudden quit trying to win, or just "turn off" their competitive nature....

‘yah but the most ridiculous is people not understanding the difference between trying to lose and hoping they lose.

Remember Mike Ditka? Traded every one of his draft picks to get the fifth overall pick. Selected Ricky Williams.

How'd that work out? Not that well.

But hey! If this team just had the no. 3 pick instead of the no. 10 pick, we'd be SB bound, right?

Wouldn't it be great if we could be the ones selling to Ditka. Or the Eagles calling for Wentz. or the Rams calling for Goff....

The mechanics don't require players to want to lose. It requires the coaches and management making a decision when we're 3-9 not to send recently concussed Dalton back out there and instead "see what they have with the young guys" like Dinucci or some street FA.

Probably not a commonly held opinion, but Brees should have retired last year. To me he's making himself look bad. Seems like nearly every time there's a key first down or they need a quarterback run, out goes Brees and in trots no. 7 to do the deed. Then it's Brees back in until the next key play. He only throws long a couple of times a game, which makes it appear he can't do it but once or twice and then needs to rest his arm for a quarter.

The failed "reach out" touchdown attempt in the last game was embarrassing, his vertical leap is like mine, about 18 inches. On a team with Kamara and Thomas, and he has to make a far out stretch to get a td? Has his arm strength gone so far down he can't make a 5 yard quick throw?

It looks like he so desperately wants that second SB ring, to show the one he has wasn't a fluke, that he'll sacrifice his dignity to get one. Manning did the same, relied on a killer defense so he could match Eli's 2 rings.

Maybe I'd do the same, but it's painful to watch a onetime great player hanging on too long...

But come on, we could have the #1 pick in every draft. Wouldn't that be amazing?
it would be a lot more exciting than watching whatever product Jerry puts on the field but I was rooting for the playoffs once we got on a roll
