Yeah yeah...I'm a masochist...I rewatched the game.

First off, this was a TOTAL team collapse...coaching, play calling, not so special teams, O line, REEVES, Crayton, Fasano, Roy (did he play yesterday? I don't remember seeing him) Romo coming unglued at the end...and on and on...

BUT...the game changed on either side of the half.

That 42 second drive was a killer....Reeves, 67 yards, enough said. No pass rush, enough said. Talk about a killer...we have the ball 20 plays, 10 minutes...they get it back and score in 42 seconds. Totally unacceptable.

Dallas gets the ball back at the start of the second half, up 14-7, gets the FG and then it would have been 17-7..and now maybe they could get after Eli...

In any case, the Giants scored... 14-14 at half.

We come out for the third period...doing a great job..the offense looks good...until it gets to the 11...2nd and 7 and everything falls apart...Fasano, who for the life of me I still don't understand why he was drafted when he was, drops a pass that hit him in the chest...yes, the db was pestering him, but ya gotta catch that...Flozell does his false start thing...so now it's 3rd and 12...Owens is wide open and Romo airs it over his head. FG. Field goals are a sure way to lose in the playoffs. You haven't scored three points, you've lost four. Against this level of competition, FG's are the kiss of death.

If the defense does it's job before the half, it's 14-7....if the offense did it's job after the half, it's 21-7. Neither did. Game over.

Not a great day to be living in New York.

Reeves penalty was the single biggest play of the game.

and that's all about killer instinct...Deion said it after the Packer game...the one thing that bugged him was that we didn't put teams away.

He was on the nosey

After those two "critical points" of the game, we were leading 17-14, and we forced a punt on the Giants' next possession.

Game over?

And I think he got crucified on here for being picky since we were 10-1 at the time.

He was dead on and it came back to bite us.

Yep..holding the ball for 10+ minutes and then giving the momentum back by allowing a TD in 42 seconds just before the half is a killer....

Marching down field to open up the second half, and then letting them off the hook with a FG was a killer too.

FG's in the playoff are NOT a good thing.

Fact is, it was a total breakdown...right through the game...from beginning to end....

BUT there was no other point in the game where this team could have put the Giants away than right before and after the half. When we didn't, when we gave them life, it came back to haunt us.

Deion was right...when you have a chance to put a team away, you do it. I really couldnt care less what happened on the Giants next possession after our FG.

THIS was the point in the game that a better team seizes and puts away its opponent.

Yep, after that, game over.

Yep, this drive was a killer and Wade Phillips mentioned in his post game PC that it was the one that was the most disappointing. That actually showed him cursing to himself after they scored on us.

I can't remember if it was the Demarcus Ware phantom Offsides call, but it was called on us and it allowed the Giants to extend their series and throw the TD to Toomer.

No, but you could be either putting them away or getting them down by 7 or perhaps 14 (Fasano makes the catch and Crayton makes the catch) and then it puts the Giants in a very bad situation that's hard to get out of.

Exactly.

I'm not saying we didn't have chances later on...in fact, even after what I am referencing, we had the lead, 17-14...but this was the juncture where the Cowboys could have closed the game out.

That we left an inferior Giant team IN the game, put the team in the position later on.

We all know this. NO matter what sport, you know when you can deal the death blow to your opponent.

This was the period of time...and we let 'em off the hook.

Yep. If the defense just gets a stop at the end of the half, they go in up 14-7, then the fg on the first drive provides a 2 score margin. Plus, that drive lasted 8 minutes. Do the Giants start pressing down 2 scores with only a quarter and a half left. Maybe. That 40 second drive had me fuming.

Then you should have been saying that the game would have been over -- in OUR favor -- if we hadn't allowed the quick TD or settled for the field goal.

When we were ahead 17-14 and got the ball with 3:07 left in the third quarter, the game was far from "over" against us.

I think in the course of any game, there's a point where you simply impose your will on the other team.

Remember the Cowboy Bills second Super Bowl? Emmitt asked for the ball at the beginning of the second half...he got it on 7 of 8 carries...the Cowboys scored. Game over. Hardly mattered that there was still the better part of the half to play..

Those teams understood the few critical points in a game.

In every game there are a few of those points....the team that understands that an executes, wins.

Our loss was not because the G'ints did not provide plenty of chances for us to win. They gave us lots of chances to put them away. The Packers will put them away comfortably next week not because they are more talented but because they want it all more.

This may be true or it may be false, but even after all of this, .. if Crayton doesn't quit on his route, with 16 seconds left, down 4, in the 4th quarter, of the divisional playoff game, we win.

We win and Romo is a hero !

But why Crayton would ever slow down, in that situation, I will never understand.

I don't know if it's a matter of wanting it more or not...

I think there is just a sports IQ that this team is missing. I think the smart teams know the critical points in a game and they execute.

It's like a prize fight. Ya have the guy on the ropes, you take him out. If it's in the first round...and you let him off the hook...regardless of how the fight goes after that...if you lose, it's because you didn't recognize the opportunity to finish your opponent.

Smart teams...teams with the killer instinct just know this.

I have watched the Yankees for years....the teams of 1998..99...that era...didn't have as much talent as the ones that came later....BUT if you went to a game, you'd just watch them turn it on the second they had a chance to put a team away.

and if they take care of business, when they could have, it would never have come down to this.

That's the problem. A fluke bounce of the ball. A strange thing happening on a play. Ya gotta take care of business and close out the other team when the opportunity presents itself so that the next day we're not saying "Ya know, if Crayton doesn't quit..."

Just one guy's opinion. :D
