The Dak Dissent: If you're completing 80 percent, you're not really playing very well

So let me start by saying that I thought Dak was great against the Rams. From watching a little bit of him in college I had an idea of what to expect. And he totally exceeded that, He showed poise, sharp footwork, a good arm, and he made an incredible variety of throws for a rookie in his first pre-season game. He looked terrific.

I didn't see the Miami game. But I thought that he had a kind of a bad game against the Seahawks. He showed the same poise and intangibles. But he played like the guy that I saw in college that I had doubts about. Accurate throwing short, but not throwing the ball enough downfield, not challenging defenses. A lot of five yard completions on 3rd down and 7. That's how you end up with a 75 percent completion percentage and 10 points on the board.

If you're going to check down a lot, yes, it is better to complete the pass than not. But it''s ultimately not a formula

Now, I'm not saying that Dak can't do it. I'm saying that he needs to.

Pass protection was the worst it has been in preseason vs Seattle. When you don't have time for the longer patterns and double moves to develop, and when the defense isn't allowing receivers to get behind them, and when you are missing your #1 receiver, the only chance to be successful is to take what the defense gives you.

That 50 yard check down to Williams was stupid

3 drops for over 65 yards..if those balls are completed Dak would have had a 7.8 ypa...

Check down Charlie for sure..spot on analysis my friend..

You know what's even more frustrating than ppl anointing Dak as the future?

Ppl pretending he's not actually playing well.

The OP isn't exactly tearing him down, but there seems to be a concerted effort around here to take him down a notch.

Fact is, Dak looks good and that is good. It is OK to be excited. We all know he's a rookie and has a lot to learn, but he's demonstrating things right now that make a quarterback successful, regardless of experience--leadership, pocket presence, accuracy, toughness.

3rd pre season rookie year: seattle game Dak had a 99.2 QB rating
what did the other rookie drafted in the first round do?

He took a pretty big shot by the sideline from I think Sherman and it didn't seem to phase him a bit.

In the NFL teams take away the big play.

You don't see any NFL QB completing bombs consistently.

Also, he was playing Seattle.

I was actually more impressed with the Seatttle performance than all of the others because a lot of young QBs would throw picks in those situations.

Also in your " dress rehearsal" game. Not gonna be quite as vanilla as the others. Your probobly not gonna be able to march up and down the field at will like a Madden QB

Even still he was erratic with his passes. The TD could have easily been intercepted. He missed Beasley on 3rd down. Sailed one over Elliott's head that left him open to a big hit and deserves at least some of the blame on the Williams incompletion. A more accurate throw and the safety isn't a factor.

He did seem to check down alot, but I think people have Weeden in their head now as far as checkdowns. Its not ineffective as long as the defense is challeneged for the big play which they were.

Seattle is also a team known for being able to minimize the effectiveness of those checkdowns and quick reads. They make alot of QBs look like Brandon Weeden

Thats what its gonna be like with him if we play him this year. He will probably be able to do some things, but he will have alot of errors as well. There is still alot to clean up.

yeah it was 10-10 at the half, so it was a tie, and elliot went out after 1 or 2 drives, and no dez no tyron etc etc.
go look at 2014 sea game stats. it is about the same.
