The Dak Dissent: If you're completing 80 percent, you're not really playing very well

So let me start by saying that I thought Dak was great against the Rams. From watching a little bit of him in college I had an idea of what to expect. And he totally exceeded that, He showed poise, sharp footwork, a good arm, and he made an incredible variety of throws for a rookie in his first pre-season game. He looked terrific.

I didn't see the Miami game. But I thought that he had a kind of a bad game against the Seahawks. He showed the same poise and intangibles. But he played like the guy that I saw in college that I had doubts about. Accurate throwing short, but not throwing the ball enough downfield, not challenging defenses. A lot of five yard completions on 3rd down and 7. That's how you end up with a 75 percent completion percentage and 10 points on the board.

If you're going to check down a lot, yes, it is better to complete the pass than not. But it''s ultimately not a formula

Now, I'm not saying that Dak can't do it. I'm saying that he needs to.
Confucius say:. The faster the opposing pass rush, the faster the pass, the shorter the throw.

If this was his only game so far I would still be giddy. I am still seeing all the right tools, that's the important thing at this point.

You know what's even more frustrating than ppl anointing Dak as the future?

Ppl pretending he's not actually playing well.

The OP isn't exactly tearing him down, but there seems to be a concerted effort around here to take him down a notch.

Fact is, Dak looks good and that is good. It is OK to be excited. We all know he's a rookie and has a lot to learn, but he's demonstrating things right now that make a quarterback successful, regardless of experience--leadership, pocket presence, accuracy, toughness.
Exactly, thank you.

Dak had a great game considering the circumstances. He came in cold on the road in a stadium that is considered one of the most difficult places to play. Seattle had their #1 defense on the field and were looking to make a statement. Dak leads the team to 10 pts and tied for the lead at halftime.

What a stupid post.

Of all the things to be complaining about, Dak is not one.

Heck you could even complain about our starting QB who looked like he was temporarily paralyzed from being lightly reverse close-lined.

Or that our first's D-line could not get anywhere near the most sacked guy in the league last year.

But not a rookie QB who was facing the best D in the league

Why do teams include a check down receiver on almost every play? If everyone is covered downfield and the QB is getting pressure, he either goes to the check down, throws it away, or takes the sack. They were playing a very good defense that was stunting and blitzing. Garrett's 30 year old route tree doesn't allow anyone to get open under those circumstances except the check down. I think he was doing all he can. Sure he made a few errant passes but who doesn't. I saw Cam Newton last night and he couldn't hit anything.

We would possibly have been ahead at half if not for that phantom holding penalty on Free.

Dak played about the best game he could have against Seattle without a dynamic receiver such as Dez Bryant. You don't constantly air the ball out down the field against a team with arguably the best secondary in the league. Where we have success against Seattle is letting our O-line push their guys around and then run the ball. In a real game, Zeke would have been in there much longer and we'd possibly have Dez there too.

And Dak didn't get as much help from his offense in this game...though for a few series, Zeke made things very easy...both kids can take over a game...and can you imagine running the option with those two and everyone else on offense? It could be a thing of beauty to behold.

Even still he was erratic with his passes. The TD could have easily been intercepted. He missed Beasley on 3rd down. Sailed one over Elliott's head that left him open to a big hit and deserves at least some of the blame on the Williams incompletion. A more accurate throw and the safety isn't a factor.
The inconsistency that Dak shows is one of the reasons that I have not got too excited about his preseason play. I watched just about every game that he played in when he was in college and he has problems with consistency when he feels pressure or faces a defense that requires him to makes several reads. He didn't correct those faults in the short time he has been in Dallas. The faults just hasn't been exposed yet like they will be in s regular season game. With that being said, he has played great this preseason, but fans seems to forget that it is just preseason games .

For a rookie, on the road, in Seattle, against a very good defense, without Dez, he played a very, very nice game. Much more concerned about the drops than with the play of Dak Prescott.
