The Dak Extension was strategized by Jerry

Jerry Jones' decision to extend Dak Prescott's contract on the season opener, rather than during the offseason or training camp, was a well-calculated move. Had the extension been announced earlier, it would have undoubtedly sparked a media frenzy, with endless speculation, analysis, and pressure on both Prescott and the team. This could have created distractions and undue stress, impacting the team's focus and preparation for the upcoming season. By choosing to finalize the deal at the season opener, Jones effectively neutralized any potential media circus. The start of the NFL season is a whirlwind of games, stories, and excitement, making the extension almost an afterthought in the broader league narrative.

In retrospect, the timing of the extension was a strategic masterstroke. The decision allowed Prescott and the Cowboys to avoid the intense scrutiny and constant questions that would have accompanied a summer contract negotiation. Instead, the focus remained on football, with the team fully united and ready to start the season. The extension, when announced, was just another piece of news in a crowded sports landscape, allowing the Cowboys to move forward without unnecessary distractions. This approach not only benefited Prescott but also the entire organization, setting the stage for a season centered on performance rather than off-field drama.

Here’s what actually happened.

Dak set a price.

The FO delayed and delayed and delayed, trying to get any type of deal. It didn’t work

The FO finally caved at the last second and gave Dak his price.

That’s what really happened. It wasn’t some stroke of genius by Jerry.

A pretty big reach in my opinion. There were tons of stories of will they or won’t they. An extension just kills that portion of the story. Also if they announced they were not going to do an extension-same thing happens. If anything, the prolonged extension negotiation took away from just football. The move was strictly for publicity in my opinion. Free press is like printing your own cash, and Jerry will always go that direction. If he had one less scruple he would sell the rights off to his children.

Make no mistake about it.

Sunday morning was when Jerry wanted to finalize this deal.

He purposely waited to avoid all the media drama for the Cowboys AND for his QB, Dak Prescott.

It was very wise of him to do it this way.

I'm calling BS - when has Jerry ever shied away from media attention? Never. He delayed the announcement because of the constant, non stop media circus, not because he wanted to avoid it.

Thats fine and all true, but I'm not sure any media circus was avoided here. Jerry/Dak were asked about the contract situation pretty much every media session they were a part of.
Yeah,,, I'd agree with the opening premise that it was timed for maximum effect but I doubt it involved any considerations regarding team distraction, just maximizing the team exposure. Barnum and Bailey got nothing on Jerry, he's the king.

Some look at things objectively and some look for the negative in anything the Cowboys do. Can’t criticize the win on the road against last years #1 defense in the NFL so you look to Jerry. He’s always good for a dig right?

Awwwwww I didn’t meet Rockports expectations on posting.

You never stop crying and worrying about what other people post. Give it a rest dude.

Meanwhile I gave my opinion on how the Dak negotiations went down. Trying to present it as a stroke of genius from Jerry is freaking laughable.

Jerry is a horrible owner and the fans should boo him every time they show his mug on tv. Dak will not win anything in his career. Jerry needs to go.

Btw, meanwhile I’ve been celebrating the win and pointing out tons of good things the team did yesterday.

But that’s not enough for Rocky. You want me to be right down on my knees next to you fellating the FO and everyone else involved. Sorry I’m not interested.

it's not dumb, it's that Jerry doesn't care what the fans want. He only cares about himself. He needs to go.

How about looking on the bright side of things for once. You wouldn’t be so bitter all the time. Hate on bro.

Yes to all of that. The only reason Jerry extended Dak is for his comfort level. He's fine with Dak piling up stats during the regular season and isn't bothered in the least that this is as high as the bar will go.

Whatev's.

I am serious. You’re the guy who literally pisses and moans, whines and cries anytime somebody posts something that isn’t sufficiently optimistic enough for you.

You tell me to grow up, when the slightest criticisms of a player or front office gets you into a tizzy and you feel the need to jump to their defense.

This isn’t the caterpillar room at the local daycare. It’s a message board discussing the performance of people who get paid millions of dollars to win football games.

Try not getting so sad and upset anytime somebody throws out a negative criticism.

I think the benefit of knowing the contract is done and creating cap space this offseason for more FA moves would have been better.
That was part if Jerrys strategy. Wait to sign Lamb and Dak right before the season so he had an excuse to not being active in FA

Bro-you think Jerry’s strategy is to ever avoid media drama? He aims for as much as humanly possible, without going to the absurd. News cycle is the biggest marketing tool in professional sports.
