RG3 and Foles were in gimmick offenses that the league wasn't prepared for. The big issue with RG3 was his basic fundamentals were a catastrophe and the offense was fooling LB's to bite on the play fake and it would leave receivers wide open over the middle. He couldn't throw outside the numbers with any efficiency and struggled to see over his linemen and therefore needed the ballfake to suck the LB's in and give him wide open passing lanes. The league figured it out and he ended up being the RG3 we know and love.

Very similar for Foles as the league wasn't prepared for the Eagles offense outside of Monte Kiffin, which Foles had his worst game that season against.

I would compare Dak's season more to Roethlisberger's in 2004. At the time guard Alan Faneca told reporters he wasn't enthused about having a rookie starting, but with Tommy Maddox going down there was nothing the Steelers could do. Ben was far from perfect and was more of a 1-read QB, but his ability to allude pressure and throw on the run made him tough to beat and the Steelers went 15-1 that season and then won the Super Bowl the next season.

Dak has much better pocket skills at this point than any of the QB's mentioned at the same point of their career. He's also extremely accurate and his 2 best receiving threats are Beasley and Witten. So, it's no wonder he's not throwing a ton of long balls because that's not Beasley and Witten's game.

Meanwhile, Roethlisberger had Plaxico Burress, Hines Ward and Randle El for is receivers.

What Dak's strengths are his ability to locate the ball and beat defenses out of the pocket and beat teams by bootlegging in either direction. Combine that with our outside zone runs that makes it very hard for defenses to beat. And when you prepare to defend for that...they can go shotgun with a RPO.

Certainly, there will be more of a book on Dak as time goes along, but I would expect that to consist more of finding a way to take Dak's weapons away from him than actually being able to stop Dak himself. And that's what separates Dak from the Foles' and RG3's.

Oh, you mean like when 38 year old Jon Kitna without this offensive line and without Zeke went 4-5 and posted a 90 qb rating through 9 games with a 65.7% completion percentage?

So, you are saying Dak is the same as Kitna? That is where you wish to plant your flag in this discussion? Which is not the the original point was at all. And surely not the point with this team.

You're the one that needed it to be someone who has had a star on their helmet. Not I.

Should I throw Stephen McGee and another handful of names at you?

nope...people dont want quincy carter 2.0 and a decade of crap again

If that is the case, then what you are suggesting doesn't make sense.

The time to strike on a franchise QB was last year, when Romo was out and we had a top 5 pick. That boat passed and now we have Dak. That is fact.

The Cowboys will eventually be Dak's team. He is the current future plan. We are not going to go out and pick up another QB, with Romo and Dak still on the roster. When Romo leaves If Dak fails, then the Cowboys record will put them in the area of the draft to be picking a franchise QB again.

All of this doom and gloom stuff and "I hope I'm wrong".. is just unnecessary. If you don't want on the train, that's fine.. and I get the point you want to make.. but no need to create narratives that don't exist.

So what ru saying amigo? Dak's a bust? Or gonna be?
It seems to me that Prescott is the real McCoy. It's hard to believe and l can not get my head around it. He just seems right. It could be an illusion and he could well fizzle out. I am not saying that is not a possibility. It just seems like this, improbable kid, has a real feel for NFL football and a high football IQ...that has been misssng from the club for years. He seems to be able to read the Defense and make that good, quick decision that has failed the offense for 10+ years. We should only pray and hope its the real long term answer. Its been so long in coming that l can hardly believe what my eyes are telling me.

I feel the same amigo but I gotta admit I don't know the first thing about how to evaluate the position, mechanics, etc, etc

What I am confident that I'm seeing is a calm demeanor and poise and the way he conducts himself displays a wisdom that belies his youth. If everything I hear about his work ethic is true, then when I take all of the above into account, I'd feel pretty comfortable wagering a decent amount on his future success.

So that's why these naive eyes are pretty optimistic about his future.

I do have concerns over the way everything with the Cowboys gets ridiculously overhyped and I just hope where criticism is due, its constructive and being conveyed in a way that gives this kid the best chance to improve and succeed long term.

But if Romo were excelling, you wouldn't mention those other factors
Sure I would, and so would the rest of the league. Why do you think Romo became the first player even to lead the league in QB Rating, completion %, and YPA in 2014 to not win the MVP award.
