so you would be comfortable with Garrett in his 8th year again showing nothing? How many excuses/years does he need.Wow is this a 180 from Landry having 1 relatively poor year in 20. Good coaches dont need stars at every position or 8 years to rebuild a team. Garretts got to take what hes got and start winning in the post season. Hes got more than enough on both sides. This team needs nothing more than a good head coach right now. Hopefully Garrett can become one.

Where did you pull the 8 years from (no worries, I know)? Garrett's first couple of years were spent purging the old and over inflated contracts with dead money from the team. We just took a competitive approach to rebuilding and now we are one of the youngest teams in the NFL and we look to have staying power.

I completely agree. The last time I watch that clip of Odell's one handed TD catch as Carr interferes and falls to the turf, can't come soon enough, Goodbye Brandon. The mass exodus and draft reload that occurred this off season was a welcomed sight, IMO. These young talented players will do a fine job once they get coached up and for the lack of a better word, "gel". I like that the cantankerous Oscan and General Sean Lee will still be around to give these guys some veteran leadership but the influx of youth is good for this team.
People forget how young the core was in 92 when they won the 1st of the 3 Jerry era Super Bowls.

It was a little more extreme this off-season than expected with so many departures at DB, but they were not going to get better by keeping them.

After reading that first sentence I was just about to say, it wasn't to that extreme in 92 that it is now, but thank you for reminding us that we have had immediate success in the past with a young core group of individuals.

The starting CBs were:
Larry Brown: 12th round pick the previous year.

Kevin Smith: Rookie 1st round pick.

The current Cowboys CBs as a group are very experienced in comparison.

I hope you're right. I would love to see a good team with staying power.
I think Garretts bright, knows players, and would be a great GM. I think McClay deserves more credit than Garrett but together they appear to be building a solid team. I just think Garrett is a little poor at either putting together a game plan or making half-time adjustment(s). Landry/Johnson with this team would be at a higher level.
hopefully Garrett gets it together.

It does irritate me when noone even talks about how good Kevin Smith was pre-injury.

CBs are important, and he was a good one. Course we can talk about Charles Haley all day.......suuuure. We had Woodson, Kevin, and such.....but its all about the War Daddy Haley. Wish I didn't know football is actually a team sport, course Bruce Smith was great, but how many rings does he have.

Need a total team.

Oh, I'm a Haley fan as much as anyone, only irritates me when we ignore everyone else that helped us win those rings.

While Larry Brown wasn't much good, Kevin and Woodson were good.

BTW, good teams don't rebuild......they reload.
Those 90 clubs were outstanding on both sides of the ball and had a coaching staff to match that talent. I knew they were going to win the SB! Heck, they should have won another one!!

...New additions to the defensive line and to the secondary were made via the draft. That means that the Cowboys are banking on a plethora of guys who were facing collegiate level competition just one year ago. That does raise some cause for concern. This fall the rookies will be testing their mettle against the best football players in the world.

With the departure of so many starters on defense during the free agency period, and the team bringing in no high-profile veteran replacements, it is obvious that they youth movement on defense is in full swing. The kids who were recently strolling around college campuses are going to be asked to stand and deliver right away.

This could be good or it could be bad. On the plus side, the new guys are going to be working together as a unit from the start. The future of the Dallas defense will have an opportunity to gel immediately. Coach Marinelli and his staff will be able to focus their efforts on developing the whole as well as its individual parts at the same time. As a result, they will progress not only as individuals but collectively at the same time...

I want to be fair with this answer. you asked if im comfortable with Garret in his 8th year again showing nothing? Yes, yes i am, heres why. I have stated this with many cowboy fans. This is the first time in a long time in the past 2 seasons Dallas has come up with a plan and stuck with it. That Offense is doing great, Garrett listened to me , played Dak, perfect. I thought Dallas would roll wtih that and maybe a few changes on D and the team is stil SB ready. Ok, i would have lived with that, even better, Dallas says no, no we are revamping that D. Holy smokes are you kidding me, AND THEY STUCK WITH IT.

You are revamping that D and thats the last part to revamping the team, awesome. So yes, if Garrett says, "I have a young D, a very young D, give me one season to get teh mistakes out, give me a season to get it right, i want to get it right" Do it, whats goign to happen, 21 22 seasons without anything, we ll live if the building of a dynasty. I have been critical of Garrett, i would straight up tell him to his face here in Jersey that he sucks, and i will point out why. This is not the season to get on him if he is sticking to a plan. What do we get for anything beneath a SB? Do we get a parade, a medal? confetti? No, we get a worse draft pick and we sit there and say "NExt years Champs" BS on that. This is a turning point for Garrett to say "let me lay the foundation" Ill take a season off if hes playing those young guys, if hes letting them learn and make mistakes. I dont need a play off win, i dont need to high five my friends for another 10-6 season that doesnt do anything, or a 13-3, but you tell me Garrett is building something that could last a while, ill get behind that man with a mega phone and chant how great he is like the guy who did it for Tyson when he would come out for a match.

Garrett has the chance to shut everyone up, He has some really good rookies, hes got the vets out who werent going anywhere, Carr is gone, Clairborn is gone, and he has a new slate, Use it well. Hey half way through the season he sees something and he goes for it, fine regardless of what happens ill still back him, he saw a path, ptu the Cowboys in place to go for it, failed, thats ok, he tried. I ll live with that, being an average coach with some wins sprinkled here, but overall "meh" because the team has this problem or the team has that problem. NO i cant accept that, take a flame thrower and get rid of the problems, and you know what, the Cowboys did that. They did it. Garrett wont change everything in 1 season is my expectation, but wth he might. I dont want him to keep Scandrick or Witten just for teh chance at another chance for maybe a playoff win, its lose lose but i will live if we do 8-8 or 3 -13 if the team is learning and doing their jobs correctly. You will see it on teh field.

You tell me Garrett is doing the same ol, ill do what i do, it doesnt matter, he cant do it on his own. You show me he has been part of a plan to revamp the team and needs 1 season, im all for it. 22 23 24 25 seasons of doing nothing, thats what the ones who have been enjoying the mediocrity want. You show me Garrett has revamped and is laying down the foundation to make something last for a few years, i ll give him 1 season. I can live with that.

The Dallas Cowboys are in a rebuilding year on defense
http://thelandryhat.com/2017/05/19/dallas-cowboys-rebuilding-year-defense/

The reality is that the Dallas Cowboys are in a rebuilding year on defense and high scoring games should be expected.

The 2016 Dallas Cowboys won or lost more than half of their regular season games by a touchdown or less. Toss in the divisional round playoff loss by three points to the Green Bay Packers with :02 seconds left on the clock, and the Cowboys season died in the same anxiety riddled fashion in which it unfolded.

Fast forward to September 10, 2017. Imagine a squad of young defensive backs taking positions against Odell Beckham, Brandon Marshall, and Sterling Shepard. Two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Eli Manning walks up to the line and begins the snap count…

...If the Dallas Cowboys final second wins and losses makes you nervous, start your deep breathing exercises early. We are likely in for another one of “those seasons.” However, true blue fans wouldn’t have it any other way. And last second victories have a thrill all their own.
I love tense endings
