One NFL media analyst continues to be very critical of Dallas Cowboys head Jason Garrett and his inability to win big games.
If you were asked to name some of the best head coaches in the NFL right now, Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll and Andy Reid would likely come to mind. A name that is probably not on that list is Dallas Cowboys‘ head coach Jason Garrett.

That’s despite the fact the man at the helm of America’s Team for nearly seven seasons now was named NFL Coach of the Year last season. So why isn’t Garrett on that list?...

The reality is that the Dallas Cowboys are in a rebuilding year on defense and high scoring games should be expected.

The 2016 Dallas Cowboys won or lost more than half of their regular season games by a touchdown or less. Toss in the divisional round playoff loss by three points to the Green Bay Packers with :02 seconds left on the clock, and the Cowboys season died in the same anxiety riddled fashion in which it unfolded.

Fast forward to September 10, 2017. Imagine a squad of young defensive backs taking positions against Odell Beckham, Brandon Marshall, and Sterling Shepard. Two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Eli Manning walks up to the line and begins the snap count…

...If the Dallas Cowboys final second wins and losses makes you nervous, start your deep breathing exercises early. We are likely in for another one of “those seasons.” However, true blue fans wouldn’t have it any other way. And last second victories have a thrill all their own.
Damn glad we've dropped that policy of max 100k salary for our place kickers awhile back.

i think CZ asked it best by many posters, "who decides which are the big games"?

We have all personally seen Garrett win "big games" "need win games" and even "they werent supposed to win that game"

I think some writers need to give him the respect he deserves BUT be factual when criticizing.

If Dallas wins games, fine, if not, no big deal, Play the defense you want for next year as much as you. I would give Garrett this year as a free year as long as that defense improves. To not improve the defense and go 9 wins is for nothing. Get the defense ready for next year. Make your mistakes and let the youth learn this year.

For myself, i went on record, this year is for a very young defense, i m not worried about the vets, let those rookies play when you can and let them learn. IF Garrett lets the defense mature this year, thats fine, whatever record is good enough.

The first time in a long time Dallas is implementing a really good plan. They stuck by it, they believe in it, let the season go and play it, You win, fine, you lose just make sure they learn.

I see the excuse making for Garrett is already getting started........."its a free year"

The entire team is young on offense (outside of Witten), and defense (outside of Lee, Scandrick, and Carroll). So in terms of rebuilding with youth, that has been going on for awhile on both sides.

I keep hearing how these guys we drafted are better than what we lost in the secondary, so there's no reason for this to be a 'rebuild year'. The schedule is tougher, but we should still make the playoffs if that's the case.

Show up and keep up with a little of the OP's on site, then...

There will be growing pains, and even with the offense; but the team is better projecting, right now.

Oh, I'm a Haley fan as much as anyone, only irritates me when we ignore everyone else that helped us win those rings.

While Larry Brown wasn't much good, Kevin and Woodson were good.

BTW, good teams don't rebuild......they reload.

Larry Brown was matched up with Jerry Rice many times one on one. He was a solid player for us, up until he grabbed those two "gifted" INTs in the super bowl and got the big contract. He fell off the planet at that point.

oh come off it, ive been so critical of Garrett i get banned to it.

I stand by what i say tho, if hes going to implement this plan, if this leads to a great foundation than yes, i am willing to let Garrett work because there is no use complaining because he is the head coach for at least another year. Even with a bad record but good results, i ll live with it to see a good foundation laid down. It will be well worth that all fans will be on it.

Feels like we've been "rebuilding" this defense for years
For many years, we had a "head in the sand" strategy for our defense.

Now we have a "wishes and hopes" strategy.

Much like the O Line a few years back, eventually you have to bite the bullet and actually fix the problem. Taco, Awuzie, and Lewis were three good additions, but we can't keep ignoring free agent talent. We don't have a speed rusher, we don't have a true centerfielder safety, we don't have a legit #1 CB, and we have some serious question marks at linebacker. Should have some cap room to go along with the extra draft picks next year.

This offense and this fan base deserve better.
