The Dallas Cowboys are setting up for a long, successful run

http://thelandryhat.com/2017/02/26/dallas-cowboys-setting-up-long-successful-run/

...Looking at each team in the National Football League, only four franchises have had five straight seasons with winning records.

Like it or not, the New England Patriots are the envy of the league. Their numbers are awe-inspiring in any era but especially in today’s NFL. New England has put together 16 straight winning seasons since 2001. They have only missed the playoffs twice in that time frame, going 5-2 in the Super Bowl.

Unquestionably, the Patriots are the standard.

The next closest team is only half way to the Patriots level of excellence. Green Bay has put together eight straight winning seasons. Since 2009, the Packers have won five division titles, averaged almost 11 wins per season and won Super Bowl XLV...

lets also admit, there were a few years we could have won and did our very best not to. In this league today you actually get a lot more help, than what you do for yourself.

I ll wait on this one. So far we been saying that for over 20 years, think about that.
I will believe that this team is going in the right direction when this team finally at least wins a divisional playoff game and can finally get to a nfc championship game. then I might believe that this team can win a superbowl again. this past year was a good start in the right direction and I enjoyed some of the wins but right now I do not know if this team is capable of winning the superbowl. we really need another draft like last year and hope to hit on some undrafted players to build on this past season.

I truly believe that this year can make or break the Cowboys chances of becoming the next great Cowboys team. We all know what happened the last time we finished 13-3. Granted, this is a different team than that one, but consistency is the name of the game. If you don't make the playoffs, you have absolutely no chance to win the SB. And then of course, when you do make the playoffs, you cannot squander HFA throughout and the best record in the NFC. We've seen it twice already, lets hope history does not repeat itself. One thing is for sure, if the Jones' do not fix this D, it will.....

since the Johnson years jerry and Stephen jones have no clue what a championship defense is suppose to look like. most of the defensive picks have been downright awful except for maybe lee. defensive line is just unbelievably awful. until they start to finally learn how to build a defense I do not know if the cowboys will ever be able to win the superbowl again.

yes, this year is so important because we are on the cusp of a really great core. the draft and FA will really show us if this FO takes the SB serious. I wont root for Garrett to fail, its just really hard to believe he understands what needs to be done. ANyone can say "ok we have to win it" yes but do you understand the blue prints it takes to get there?

I will feel more optimistic if we get a serious DE , or someone who gets at the QB for starters, and lets see if some people are flat out let go. There is no roster spot that we can afford to give to a player who doesnt want it. I can accept a few projects. Ok i get that. If Dunbar is held on to, it will send a signal, "we ll just keep people for the pure belief of what we think they can do" there are some players the team needs to let the Turk handle.

I really want to see the FO to tell Rod, go after the Qb, go after the Qb, than go after him again. Dont pass up o the Freenys in FA to save a buck, If you believe this is it, than lay it down. If you dont, and you go cheap, than dont be shocked if the people understand what you are trying to do and figured you out. No excuse this year. Honestly very few excuses last year, and to be honest, yea Linehan got cute at the wrong time. Stick to what we are strong at.

Two mantras if you want "impose your will" "handle our business" forget what the other teams have to do, just handle your business.

I am hopeful but if I really wanted to I am sure I can find similar articles after 2007. The NFL is hard, nothing is guaranteed.

If we are set to have a top 10 QB (which we appear to be), one of the best RBs and one of the top offensive lines in the league, then we will be competitive. How successful we'll be depends on coaching, whether we improve the defense and health.

I'm not so sure this "long successful run" the Cowboys are suppose to be setting up for is actually going to happen. Things get in the way of the best laid plans.

The offense is loaded, ready for a long run but I still believe Defense wins championships. When they start building the dline like they did the oline (and actually get it right). We are going to be in good shape going forward.

they haven't been to a nfc championship in over 20 years for me I am going to wait and see what happens not getting all hyped up I just don't think the head coach is good enough for them to win it all

It's my belief if we had a upper-echelon coach, we at least get to the Super Bowl over the past 10 years. I understand Jason Garrett. I like him, and I think he'll eventually figure it out (though I thought he would be further along when he first got hired), but I don't think he gives us an advantage.

There really are no perfect teams. And when you don't have a perfect team, you need a coaching staff that can get you over the top. We should have beaten Green Bay in 2014 AND 2016. But we couldn't, even though our 2016 was better.

And that's because we don't get any coaching advantages from Jason Garrett. I fear we're going to have to assemble the perfect team in order to advance to the Super Bowl. And if, by chance, we're playing the Patriots, we'll still get beat because we will be done-in by coaching.

The only team that's had a long successful run is the Patriots. The Cowboys are not the Patriots. Don't have the coaching or the GM the Patriots do.

I don't have a lot against Garrett, other than I think he wasted some years of opportunity serving as OC and head coach when he's not very creative as a coordinator. However, I do feel that we might have a Super Bowl appearance during Romo's years if Parcells had decided he wanted to continue coaching. I didn't agree with all of Parcells' coaching decisions (particular in not attacking Seattle's secondary more in the playoffs), but he understood the need for offensive balance and a tough defense. I think if he had given Romo just a little more time to mature as a quarterback, he would have led Dallas to playoff success.

I was hopeful and wary with Wade. Hopeful because he was a defensive guru who could continue to advance things on that end without messing with the offense. Wary because in his other head coaching stops, he had done well at first before the team started to struggle. That pattern held true here.

With Garrett, I like what Linehan is doing with the offense and I think Marinelli can win if he's given the pieces he needs on defense. I don't think Garrett is a bad manager, but I also don't think he's the type of coach that gives you an edge in that department. He's good enough to win with if we have the right parts ... and I do give him credit for getting the right parts on offense, even if some of it was more luck than skill. I'm just not sure he knows how to fix this defense like someone like Parcells would.

We haven't won squat in 20 years. I was young, handsome, and dashing when we won our last Super Bowl. Now I'm an old fart ...

I ll wait on this one. So far we been saying that for over 20 years, think about that.

Last time I thought that was back in 2007 after Romo's first full season. That was before Jerry started ceding power to Stephen, et al.

Then came the RW11 trade, mismanagement of an aging OL, and another draft for backups rekindling the same mistakes of the past.

Since Aikman left, I personally have said that for maybe two years out of 20.
