If a coach does it, it means his players need to also keep him from looking bad,. so will try harder to win.

That game with SF was even bigger, because the 49r's were the team that were the dominate team of NFC at that time.
The best team in the nfc at that time, maybe like GB was years ago.
So Jimmy saying that after SF just won in WC round 44-3? was very bold, but smart.

Actually, the Cowboys were the dominant team. They were coming off a Super Bowl victory, and the Cowboys had home field advantage in the 93-94 NFC Championship Game.
The guarantee came during that championship not the 92-93 NFC Championship played in San Francisco.
