We were all there in front of our TVs, hoping that Jerry would wise up and realize that a heismann trophy winning QB was just a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick trade away. But of course, the oppotunity slipped.
Now we're in a really weird deja vu stage. Bledsoe is looking about as good as Troy looked during his last two seasons. I could compare Romo to Quincy Carter and call it a day. Looks like another 7 years of searching for QBs is inevitable.
Let me start by saying we should CRUSH Houston this weekend...
I have to say to you that i couldn't agree more with you.
I was there watching Leinart slide... and hoping and praying that somehow, someway we'd finally wake up and see the light.
didn't happen.
and i get a kick out of everyone on this board who always acts like we just need a "bus driver".... just like Staubach, and Aikman were "bus drivers".... lol... and if it's not that - it's "well how do you know we are getting the next Staubach?".... we don't!!! - but we will NEVER have the chance to know if we are not willing to take a chance to develop a quality young guy!!!... if you are happy with the status quo (8-8 to 10-6 seasons) then by all means, let's keep on keepin' on with the re-treads of the world (Vinny, Drew, etc)...
what i am saying is.... Is that at some point YOU HAVE TO TAKE A SHOT when you got one.
i would have given up our #18, a 2nd rounder, Greg Ellis, Shanle, Henson, or whatever else it took to get that pick.
and if you people honestly don't think Matt Leinart has "it" - then you don't know football.... Leinart could fail miserably in the desert like so many before him... but i don't think so. I think he is going to be the savior of that franchise provided they give him the help/coaching he needs to succeed.
watch him STRUGGLE on Monday night against the best team in the NFL in his 2nd NFL start... but LOOK closely and see what we could have had the beginnings of with him with a STAR on his helmet.
please don't give us anymore nonsense about him "not having a strong arm" - that's b.s. and you know it. the kid's money. he's played on the biggest stage in college football the past few years and he remains "cool" under pressure.... you can't teach that. you have it or you don't. the game is NOT too big for this kid.
what's done is done. (or should i say what's NOT done is done - again!)
when is someone going to pick up a 2x4 and smack JJ and Tuna over the head with it to wake them up?
I almost wish TUNA leaves after this year b/c i'm tired of his old ways... Bledsoe, TO, and Tuna all BOTHER me big-time. TO more than Bledsoe and Tuna... I hated the TO pickup, and hate it even more today - but that is another story.... "We are what we are" .... never has rung more true on the Offensive side of the ball.... and look at how Vanilla our D has been playing... all the talent we have on that side of the ball, and TUNA is playing NOT TO LOSE!!!....
WE NEED A YOUNG STUD QUARTERBACK TO DEVELOP OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS BEHIND ROMO!!!.... WE HAVE NEEDED THIS FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS!!!.... so that if "ROMO" is not the savior we think he is, we have a backup.... how hard is that to understand? Do you think the Eagles wanted to take the time and energy to develop McNabb into the player he is today? (and i don't even like McNabb!!!) Same goes for the Steelers, Bengals, Patriots, Giants, Chargers, Seattle, San Fran, Colts, etc....
We need to invest in the future.... and we've waited way too long.
Anyone remember how Jimmy built the team of the 90's? As i recall - it all started on the Offensive side of the ball... Walsh, Aikman, Buerlein - we had YOUNG options. Right now we only have 1 "young" option left.
Sorry to be so long-winded here, but i am passionate about my Boys and would love nothing more for our team to "grow" again into a high-quality team with a young upside qb that our team can rally around. I think watching that 90's team "grow up" and mature in front of my very eyes has gotten me really down on the current state of affairs at Valley Ranch.
