The desperation here is astounding

The Boys just came off a 13-3 season with 13 Pro-Bowlers. They re-signed all the key guys and coaches and upgraded at every position they could(ZThomas, AJones, FJones, Choice, Jenkins, Scandrick, Bennett). They are $10M under the cap, young, deep and the chemistry seems good. They got through camp without any MAJOR injuries, yet 60% of the posts are negative.

I was frustrated with the playoff loss last year, but this off season has been positive, building towards a great season. I understand wanting to improve(I wanted to upgrade Brad Johnson until I saw his play this summer) but guys are getting cut for good reason, they are either old, hurt or ineffective. Do we really need to add guys that can't make the Cardinals?

I read here everyday and the whining and panic is getting very tired. Cheer up, the season is finally here. TO, Crayton and Witten are pretty good. So is MBIII. So is the D. And we finally have some spark on the return teams. Make your Tampa reservations early this year.

Been saying the same thing forever now...

I don't see how people reconcile the claims that

1) We *should* win the Super Bowl this year or the team and the year is a failure, and

2) This team is heartless/gutless/poorly coached/poorly GMd/has no depth/etc.

The two don't go together. But you see it all the time.

But I will say this... Some of the panic threads are started by trolls. No doubt in my mind.

I don't really read posts that start with we went 13-3 but I will say yes, we are in good shape overall. We've just been very close the last two years with the same result. EVERY respectable team though has the goal of winning the superbowl. The pats won every game last year but lost the big game and their season is seen as a failure.

With all due respect, although your intentions are good, this would be a horrible idea on many levels.

Yawohl mein fuhrer. Why not set the minimum threshhold at 700 posts so that you can immediately eliminate yourself. Then you don't have to "donor" anymore of your precious intellectual resources. I am concerned that you are serioiusly squandering your reserves.

There are quite a few rational posts made on this forum that are positive or negative or which fall somewhere inbetween. It's just that there are a handful of posters creating numerous posts about the owner of the team dooming his own club before the season has even started. Or, posts being thrown out that the team is automatically dead in the playoffs because Wade Phillips has zero chance of coaching in the postseason. Or, injuries account for surefire losses. Or, first round picks are labeled busts. Or, undrafted rookie free agents will never contribute anything worthwhile to the team. Etc., etc.

It's not rational behavior and it *could be* the product of an overactive troll mind, but it is what it is. The important thing which we must all remember is the golden rule while posting on this forum:

Stats are for losers

Once you get beyond that unquestionable fact, life becomes a lot easier around here, believe you me.

About 50% of the desperation comes from 5-7 posters. If they would somehow calm down we'd immediately drop from category 4 to category 2 levels of desperation.

I am not sure panic is neccessary but there are some concerns here. At least to me. I do question the talent and depth on this team. We have alot of it in the secondary and at rb, I am not sure where else we have depth. I guess olb when spencer is healthy.

I dont think anyone has much better depth though, so we should be in good shape.

As far as the coaching goes, I have my worries. More of an organizational worry. No one on this roster is ever questioned, they are told they are great players by jerry and wade. That is very concerning to me.

Baldinger was on sporting news radio yesterday doing his season predictions and he basically made me more worried about that saying from what he has seen and heard everyone thinks there a star and no one wants to do the dirty work. He went on to pick us to win the division and the conference. He said we have to much talent, he then said he doesnt think our coaching staff is very good and that might be ultimately what does us in. A questionable staff and too many players thinking they are stars.

anyway, no need to panic but there are some issues here. Especially when you factor in philly looks pretty good and they are in this teams head. We just dont play well against them. Losing 3 nfc east games at the end of the year is very troubling to me as well. That is what parcells teams always did, they played flat against division teams and got pushed around.

Can we add QB rating to that ?

Well, according to one guy, that would be included also. Anything to do with numbers really. He's been a true inspiration for me. I'm thinking of writing the Pro Football Hall of Fame to ask that they throw out all enshrinee stats. We wouldn't want the careers of Hall of Famers even remotely attached to stats, now would we?

here is why people are concerned...at the end of the season and the 2nd time through the division...the Cowboys offense was slowed. TO, regardless of how in shape he is, is human, he gets hurt, his legs get tired and the end of the season passing fantasy numbers diminish, but here is how the Cowboys can combat that....

the Cowboys are going to have to be a more dominant defense this year, that is the side of the ball that is the youngset, fastest and deepest.

the special teams are going to have to be better....we are going to need better returns so the offense does not have to work so hard...and we are going to need to cover better to take full advantadge of matt mcbriars leg

lastly, the cowboys are going to have to become a more consistent running team...with the size of this OL they should tire teams out, not the other way around

this team cannot rely on Romo's arm this year to bail them out...this team has the talent on defense and has made the kind of investment on that side of the ball to expect dominance....this team should be able to lean on the defense.

theebs, I wasn't saying there are no concerns at all, and I wasn't talking about rational posts likes yours. We all have concerns of one kind or another. I was talking about the "OMG, if Jerry doesn't get a 3rd WR right now our season is over!" post... Or the ones that act like we're on the verge of collapse.

I get what you're saying on Jerry always saying everything is the best he's ever seen it, and I agree that I don't like it... But I don't get it from the coaching staff. What makes you think they all do that? Stewart and Garrett, just to name two, certainly didn't look like that on Hard Knocks.

And did Baldinger give any examples? Or was he just talking our of his rear end?
