I think a lot of people got caught up with the lack of tangible improvement while trying to rebuild the roster.

They most definitely did. But you could feel the change a' coming.

Who knows...success is fleeting in the NFL, but it sure looks like we're younger and deeper and in better cap shape than we've been in since the Parcels regime to me.

It's as good a shape as we've been in for about 20 years tbh. I'm now interested in trading up next year for one of the top 2 QBs.

For my money, sit tight and take the guy who's always there at the bottom of the first. I don't really see the return on trading up to the top 3 to get the second best QB. But, yeah, I'm in the same boat. It's the obvious move for this team next season.

If we get Dez signed and somehow extend Hardy, too, there really aren't that many holes left. We're going to be trading picks forward just to stockpile them before too long. Getting that replacement OT/OG here for almost nothing was really huge.

Jason will NOT let this roster become full of themselves. There's a lot of celebrities on this team now, eerily similar to the Wade era, but im confident JG will push them hard as ever and not let them smell the roses. Can't wait

There is a bit of trepidation with me as the last two times we had big offseasons and went into the season very hyped ( 2008 and 2010) we missed the playoffs.

However you can see the makeup of this team is much different then it was then

The best thing about the Gregory pick is it puts us in a position to where we dont have to pay Hardy 12-14 per year to stay

The main difference that pops in my mind right now is that Wade still has the better Cowboys resume, at the moment.

By that do you mean he inherited a young team with a young Pro Bowl QB and ran it into the ground in just a little over 3 years?

That's just like Garrett inheriting an old team coming off a 1-7 start that was strapped by the salary cap and then rebuilding it into a Super Bowl contender in just a little over 3 years all while never posting a losing record and playing for a playoff berth on the final game of the season during the 3 rebuilding years?

Yeah, those coaching jobs are identical.

This has a different feel IMO than 08 and 10. Focus on those offseasons seemed to be about flash.

Getting Dez was a good long term move, but it didn't make us better in 2010.

The moves this offseason seem designed for us to win now and in the future.

Wade was one of the worst Head Coaches of all time. He allowed a really talented team to become a bunch of entitled underachievers.

Your fantasy world, biased viewpoints aside, it doesn't change anything I said. Phillips has a better winning percentage, 2 division titles and a playoff win in a full season less time than Garrett had. Garrett has one winning season and a playoff win in nearly five years. Phillips has easily the better resume thus far.

Now better "coaching job", I guess I would have think about that one, as I have said for a while that Garrett's performance has outstripped his record (I think we underachieved in 2011 but overachieved every other year). But by how much, I don't know.

Garrett has never had a losing season. Wade went 1-7 and got ran out of town. 25% of wades seasons ended with losing records. Wade only had 1 playoff win in 4 years, had the #1 seed in 07 and got bounced in the first round. Garret has had a playoff win every time his team has appeared there. See how we can twist numbers to fit our agenda? If you think Wade was a better coach than Garret then you are a blind fool and its not even close

The main difference in Wade and Garrett is one inherited a really talented team and ran it into the ground, and the other inherited a bad team and completely rebuilt it into a talented team.

If you are supposed to be twisting numbers, you are doing it horribly wrong. There is not a shred of evidence that exists outside of your head that suggests Garrett is a better coach than Wade, unless in your fantasy world you've developed the coaching equivalent of wins above replacement or something. Actually, I would go as far as to say that if there really was Coaching WAR, Phillips would probably be higher just on the basis of stiffer competition (the NFC East has been considerably worse in the Garrett era).

0 losing seasons > 1 losing season.
1 playoff win in 1 trip > 1 playoff win in 2 trips.
Motivated players > soft giving up team

Fantasy world is yours buddy. Garrett light years better than Wade

Roster has got better in Garretts tenure>Roster got worse in Wades tenure.

wonder what Demarco Murray is thinking right now.....Could of set all kinds of NFL rushing records if he just stuck with the Cowboys.

that and Wade had to deal with Jerry Jones the GM and Garrett is dealing with Stephen Jones as the GM...

@Bigdog24 The year after Garrett took over he started the cleaning process. Aging, overpaid vets were quickly removed and the roster transformation started. If they didn't fit his vision for the team, they were quickly removed. Coaches tell scouts what types of players they want and what fits the scheme. The board is assembled from there. If anyone doesn't think Garrett has had a major influence on the way this team has been built, they're either a Garrett hater who will never change their mind, or haven't been paying attention.

What I like about Jason Garrett is his philosophy to have serious competition at all positions. That never happened with Wade. The starters got fat and happy. I love the competion we will see this training camp at LB, Oline, DLine and running back. Should be a very interesting training camp to watch this year.

there's less clown-like behavior now. I don't see a Tashard Choice type situation occurring here with one of our players getting the opposing qb's autograph right after the game. Garrett has been skilled at bringing in talent and we've got a team that seems like it has hard nosed players... like if you mess with one, you're going to have to deal with others.
