I called three years ago and griped until I got it free. Two years ago, got something like $30 off a month and some premium channels. Last year, I did not bother, well I frankly forgot.

Called on Sunday, the girl gave me the same deal you just described. I accepted. The next day, I noticed nothing was done on my bill to credit the difference.

Called back Tuesday to ask why. I got an unhelpful fellow who did not seem like he knew what was going on. I pulled the ten year customer routine. He stated there was no record of my call nor any adjustment. He did offer me $10 off a month, I stated that was not acceptable and I demanded to speak to a supervisor. He got on the phone and the supervisor, in his lisping feminine way, he basically stated that no, that was all he could offer. I told him to basically shove it, very hard.

Then Wednesday, I see a full charge for the entire package on my online statement. Needless to say, I called back today pretty hot.

Got the first young lady. I told her I did not appreciate a full charge on the bill when I asked for complete cancellation. She then offered me some discount minus ST Max. I told her that honestly, the Sunday Ticket was not the point. I asked for it to be cancelled Sunday it wasn't, then Tuesday I got treated poorly and I did not appreciate the full charge on the account, nor the run around. I asked her to switch me to the cancellations department.

Got this other girl and told her the whole cool story bro tale and ended saying I did not know how long my contract was for, but I wanted to know so I could leave. She was like Oprah. You get a discount of $15 off a month for a year and YOU get a discount. YOU get a premium channel for free and YOU get a premium channel for free for three month. She was

All in all, half off Sunday Ticket, HBO/Showtime free for three months, a total of $45 off my total bill each month.

Took about 120 minutes over three days of being on hold, but it was worth it I guess. That little snooty supervisor did me a big favor, I think if I didn't have the leverage of the full charge, I would not have had the leverage to play the cancel card.

I know, CSB.

If you had only used your famous line from "A Clockwork Orange" I'm fairly certain she would have had no other choice but to give you the ST for free. :)

Just made my annual call. They told me that they couldn't offer it to me for free this year. Instead they reduced the price to $44 and change a month and gave me a 12 month credit at $50/month so it actually worked out better than if they offered it to me for free. They also gave me a $50 credit for 6 months on the main channels.

I never beat around the bush. I just tell them that I'm a long time customer and one of the reasons I stick with them is because of how they are willing to work with me to keep the cost down every year. I think they appreciate the honesty as much as I appreciate them lowering my bill.
This is my method now too. I got almost the same deal with the same tactic.

I called back, this time offer was $30 off a month for a year, no contract, I canceled it, going with playstation Vue for $44 a month 100 channels, they have Redzone for $39 a season, Cowboys are on 10 times a year for free anyway.

I did the math. That means they need 5,618,000 subscribers to break even. That's a little more than 112,000 subscribers per state.

Also, another factor (if not mentioned already) is what sports bars pay for Sunday Ticket. Pretty pricey for those establishments.

I cancelled DTV a few months back and did the same thing. Even paid a $200 ETF. Still had a year left. I'm saving $100 from what my bill was so that ETF was easy to justify.

I just got the NFL Sunday Ticket for half price ($135) and 4 free months of Showtime by talking to the retention dept and by being nice. I have been a customer of Directv since 2001 and I pointed this out to them. If they had not been willing to work me a deal I would have passed.

I got it for $145 this year. I got it free last year. They told me they couldn't do the free deal this year. I was not going to get it at all. The guy I was working with said $200 was the best they could do, and I told them "No, thank you." Then he went down to $145. I was going to walk away from that deal and call back before Sunday, but I just didn't want to haggle anymore. But every year I tell them, "The only reason I have DirecTV is because of the NFL Sunday Ticket. But I have to be honest, it's too high."
They usually give me a discount. I have NEVER paid full price for the NST, and neither should any of you.

I didn't technically get it for free this year, but with the other discounts they gave me, I did, in effect. I got $50 off a month for 12 months for agreeing to a one year term (never do longer than that) and then $9 off of the 6 payments for ST, $7 off of HBO for 6 months or a year (I can't recall), and some other discount for 6 months. Averaging it all out over the course of a year, it's basically free ST plus $27 off a month.

1-800-531-5000......after confirming security questions I said "Cancel service". I was redirected to a "retention specialist" Sometimes you have to call back 2-3 times until you get the right person.

This thread continues to deliver. I was out of contract, I called a few weeks back and got someone who wasnt terribly engaged. Called back today, told them i was moving and got a better offer. Lady was fantastic, offered me same package i had for 50/mo for 12 mos, premium channels for free for 3 mos and 2017 SundayTicket for free. Thanks to you guys!

I paid 120 for ST, but used my brain and leverage (contract ending in Feb; ability to bundle with TWC) to get it.

Thought I was getting railroaded as all I ever thought I read was you folk saying you got it for free. The more I read, the better my deal looks. This Feb, when my contract is up, I will go straight to retention. Since I have TWC for internet, I can have these two compete for my business. Just like a new car.

I love DirecTV, hopefully they come close to TWC
