Newman is better then Champ. Champ may score more TD's and INTS- but he gives up more TD's and big completions. Its a negative gain with him. Newman may not INT or Score much- but he gives up fewer big plays and NO tds last year.

Yakuza did the stat study that showed all that. I would rather have a CB that no one wanted to try to beat then one that most challenge and occasionally beat. ANd he gets beat more then he hurts the O.

Link me to that.....

Secondly, Clements needs to be on that list.

Newman and Barber are better than Champ. People fail to realize he was "okay" in 2003, awful in 2004, and good, but not great in 2005. Still has tons of ability, but has now developed into a "guesser" of sorts. Dallas realized that and burned him badly on a TD pass to Keyshawn. I'm positive from a stats perspective he didn't even come close to doing what Newman did. Barber and Newman are the same type of receiver...in fact they both play the slot in the nickel downs.

4. DeAngelo Hall
5. Nathan Vasher

Hall is horribly overrated at this point. He got eaten alive by Owens last year, yet because he talks so much trash the announcers claimed he was doing a good job. Vasher is good, the jury is still out on just how good he is. He also plays the RCB spot, which generally means he's facing the #2 WR.

6. Chris McAlister
7. Dre Bly
8. Chris Gamble
9. Deltha O'Neal

Gamble isn't even the best CB on his team and isn't close to being a top 10 guy. Lots of raw talent, still has a way to go. McAlister hasn't been all that hot in the last two years. Bly wasn't all that great last year. Based on the last two years, O'Neal should be much higher to the point I'd put him higher than Vasher (having emailed KC Joyner, he agrees with me)

10. Ty Law
11. Ken Lucas
12. Samari Rolle

Law is a tricky one since he doesn't allow anything past him, but allows a lot of short stuff. Then again, he still comes up with INT's. Lucas should be higher. Rolle probably shouldn't be on the list.

Guys I saw that you missed were:

-Nate Clements
-DeShea Townsend
-Rashean Mathis
-Sheldon Brown
-Shawn Springs
-Antoine Winfield

Because there's quite a bit of difference in the skills needed, I'd break it up into two groups of six:

Top zone corners:

Barber
Lucas
Vasher
O'Neal
Law
S. Brown

Top man corners:

Newman
Bailey
Al Harris
Hall
Mathis
D. Robinson

I think a healthy Ty Law is at least a top 5 corner in the NFL, i was impressed with even what little i saw of him last year, and looking at his stats his takeaways werent too shabby as well

1. Champ Bailey (only reason I rank him over TNew is INTs)
2. Terence Newman (defines "LOCK DOWN" CB and is the best at it in NFL)
3. Ty Law (10 INT's last year?!? and he's declining? wow)
4. Ronde Barber
5. Nathan Vasher
6. Anthony Henry (was on his way to a possible probowl last year)
7. DeAngelo Hall (good, but more hype than production)
8. Ken Lucas (VERY underrated player)
9. Chris McAlister
10. Antoine Winfield
11. Dre Bly
12. Shawn Springs

I couldn't agree more. I have always thought he was way overrated. I loved when Rocket Ismail use to burn him on a regular...

Everyone keeps talking about how great of a cover corner Newman is....and myself included.

First, does anyone have the stats on Newman (how many times thrown at, completions given up, yards given up, etc....of Newman and any other corners)?

Secondly, forever I have wondered why Newman wasn't lined up in the slot against Moss in the 14-13 loss at the end....instead of Aaron Glenn.

.

Wait until July when KC Joyner's Scientific Football comes out. Last I spoke with him he stated that Newman was having a better year than Bailey was. He hadn't put all of the numbers for everybody together at that time, but the guy he liked the most was Deltha O'Neal.

By my count, Newman's final stats were 30 catches allowed out of 70 attempts (42.9 percent) for 320 yards and no touchdowns. He was never penalized for pass interference or illegal contact.

During the final six games, Newman allowed five catches out of 20 attempts (25.0 percent) for 56 yards -- which is 0.83 catches for 9.33 yards per game. During that stretch, he faced receivers such as Steve Smith (Pro Bowl), Torry Holt (Pro Bowl), Rod Smith (Pro Bowl), Santana Moss (Pro Bowl), Plaxico Burress (1,200 yards), Amani Toomer and Isaac Bruce, and they COMBINED for two catches for 11 yards against him.

Newman was in the slot. Moss was lined up wide right (to the defense's left). Our cornerbacks played their position about 95 percent of the time instead of playing a certain receiver, so Newman covered whoever was lined up against him. Just about the only time we played matchup with our corners was against Carolina, and we didn't do it all game even then.

1. Terence Newman (I may be biased, but no one gave up fewer touchdowns last year.)
2. DeAngelo Hall
3. Ronde Barber
4. Champ Bailey (Gives up WAY too many big plays for my liking.)
5. Chris Gamble (Overlooked because of Lucas.)
6. Ty Law (I hate him, but he still has it.)
7. Ken Lucas
8. Anthony Henry
9. Dre Bly
10. Chris McAllister
11. Deltha O'Neal
12. Nathan Vasher (Maybe the most overrated player on the earth. He made his entire season on 3 plays. While those 3 plays were very good, he got absolutely TOASTED for most of the rest of the season. He would be our 4th CB. For reference the Carolina playoff game. Absolutely horrendous. He only makes this list because he's young and a "pro bowler.")

I think Newman is our best player (we'll have to see how T.O. does this year...) As well, I think Newman may well go down as the best CB we've ever had- actually I should qualify that: first, I never get to see Mel Renfro play; second, Deion was untouchable in his prime but I always felt his best years were before he came to Dallas, especially his one year with the 49ers.

Newman in only his 3rd year, became a true lock-down CB- Adam's stats amply demonstrate that.

Oh my goodness... Better than Ike Holt?

Just kidding with you, man. ;)

Seriously, I hope fans don't turn on Newman if he isn't as good this year as he was last year. I seriously doubt he's going to have a year with zero TDs given up again. (Although I sure hope he does. :)) I kind of expect a year where he gives up more passes but also makes more INTs and does more with them.

I know, I feel like I've betrayed an old friend. Holt was the coolest and a true catalyst for the mid-90's dynasty; Newman is a thoroughbread who will be a cornerstone of our future success.

Newman is a stud. He's on the same par as a healthy Kevin Smith was in 92-93 slightly below Prime
