Let's not be homers....I see a lockdown corner as one who covers the opponents best WR. Newman plays primarily on one side so the other teams best WR will just take it to the other side. So Newman's stats (30 out of 70 receptions made against) would suggest he plays to at best less than star level talent opposite of him.

Newman IS a lockdown corner did you see my man Adam break it down? It's not Newman's fault we don't switch sides we have never done that anyway but he has gone against the best and have done the best job of anybody out there

ignorance is bliss sometimes. I have always thought we should man Newman with the best WR the other team has. That would allow us with Henry to man their #2. Leaving both safeties free to rob and pillage.

Newman was in the slot. Moss was lined up wide right (to the defense's left). Our cornerbacks played their position about 95 percent of the time instead of playing a certain receiver, so Newman covered whoever was lined up against him. Just about the only time we played matchup with our corners was against Carolina, and we didn't do it all game even then.

Adam do you like that particular alignment for the corners? I don't study this stuff, but I hate having Glenn out there covering one on one.

By my count, Newman's final stats were 30 catches allowed out of 70 attempts (42.9 percent) for 320 yards and no touchdowns. He was never penalized for pass interference or illegal contact.

During the final six games, Newman allowed five catches out of 20 attempts (25.0 percent) for 56 yards -- which is 0.83 catches for 9.33 yards per game. During that stretch, he faced receivers such as Steve Smith (Pro Bowl), Torry Holt (Pro Bowl), Rod Smith (Pro Bowl), Santana Moss (Pro Bowl), Plaxico Burress (1,200 yards), Amani Toomer and Isaac Bruce, and they COMBINED for two catches for 11 yards against him.
