It was the year 2015 where the Cowboys lost Demarco Murray to free agency and the Cowboys needed to draft a running with one top draft picks.

They still had the league's best oline. However, the thinking was "anyone can run behind this oline" which got them into trouble.

Their first pick was Byron Jones. This is a good pick. But they converted him into safety, which was another blunder by the coaches.

The next two picks I believe is where we really screwed up.

2nd round pick we went with Randy Gregory. A few rounds later the Seahawks select Frank Clark, Defensive End. Clark got 10 sacks and two force fumbles his first year. In his second year he had 12 sacks and now plays for Kansas City.

On the other hand, Randy Gregory is still addicted to dope.

With the 3rd round Dallas selects Chaz Green. This round is where they should have gone for a runningback. I would have picked Jay Ajayi with this pick.

If we would have picked Frank Clark instead of Gregory we would have not have selected Taco Charlton with our 1st pick in 2017. We would have gotten Kevin King instead who still plays for Green Bay. With our 2nd round pick we wouldn't have used it for Awuzie.

The next year, we needed a runningback badly. So we drafted Elliott. If we had Ajayi, I doubt that pick would have been for a runningback. I'd go with Ramsey and possible go with a running back in the 2nd round, pick Derrick Henry.

So with both those picks we were forced to pick Zeke and Taco. Where we could have had Jay Ajayi, Derrick Henry, and Jaylen Ramsey, and Frank Clark.

What are your thoughts? Let's discuss this rather then wallow over the lost to the Browns.

All things considered, if Mike Sherrard hadn't broken his leg in 1987 the Cowboys probably would not have drafted Mike Irvin.

Who knows what would have happened!

Both Gregory and Clark had red flags, but for different reasons.

Here's Clarks
Clark, who was kicked off the Michigan team last November after he was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence and assault at a hotel in Ohio. According to the police report, Clark punched his girlfriend in the face, slammed her to the ground, pushed her against a wall and pinned her down on a bed. Clark's alleged victim reportedly fought back, leaving Clark with a bloody nose after his alleged victim bit it. The police report indicated that Clark was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Randy couldn't quit the dope and that's that. But there was a reason why Clark fell too.

Jay Ajayi was talented but his knee was his fall to grace and is probably why he is out of the NFL 5 years later.

Yes Frank Clark had red flags. But so has Gregory. Gregory was much more than a risk.

Jay Ajayi had a short career. But it was very productive. The runningbacks we had, Randle and Mcfadden, where are they now?

Like I said, if we had selected Jay Ajayi, we would have taken Jalen Ramsey, and possibly taken Derrick Henry in the 2nd round the year after.

I would have still taken Ajayi in the 3rd rather than Chaz Green. Where is Chaz Green right now?

If if's and but's were candy and nuts...

The draft is a crap shoot. The 2019 and 2015 drafts look horrible. The 2016 draft knocked it out of the park.

Jerry Jones is a gambler and he always will be. He took a shot on Randy Gregory just as he took a shot on Jaylon Smith. You could make the argument that you should take those shots later in the draft and not earlier and it's a good argument. But hindsight is 20/20.

The picks that I'd like to have back: Greg Ellis over Randy Moss, Bobby Carpenter over Antonio Cromartie, and more recently Leighton Vander Esch over Hayden Hurst or Calvin Ridley.. but all in all, especially if you compare the Cowboys' drafts to a team like the Eagles, who won a Super Bowl in 2017, the Cowboys haven't done all that bad. The draft is not the problem with this team.

Man let's be honest. We can talk about all the missed draft picks but that's bailing out this crappy team. This team has talent. This team screwed up on the coach it hired. That's how I feel right now. Maybe that will change in a few weeks but they hired the wrong coach. They had the chance to go to a defensive minded head coach or they had the chance to go fresh and new and they went with Mike McCarthy who looks lost. They went with a DC who looks lost. This was the wrong coaching staff to have in a year with no training camp or preseason. They are paying for it.

Theres NO telling at ALL how players may have ended up if they were drafted into Jerrys family and friends world of fame and fortune before accomplishing a single thing.

You're a Dallas Cowboy.. you've already won!!

Got to remember that draft was the following year after the Ray Rice incident of 2014.
Guys like Justin Houston failed drug tests for weed in the past at the combine but went straight after that.

Yes, in hindsight the pick sucked. Not arguing that. But it wasn't like Gregory didn't ooze pass rush ability and Clark was a clean cut character.

Yea, would of taken Ajayi too in hindsight, or Grady Jarrett if we can go back in time. Chaz was another swing and miss at an OL in day 2 since Gurode.

LOL. Addicited to dope? OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

very productive? he has 2500 rushing yards and 13 tds over 6 years. and 1200 and 8 of those came one season lol

someone drafted by New England had a better shot at success than Cleveland. Meaning all these players drafted are good at something.

but what does matter to me is roster construction. Allocating resources to the areas of need consistently so you always have a deep talent pool of players to call up and coach up.

Could you imagine being 21 and getting drafted by Dallas in the second round and having them expect you to rehab an injury and then immediately step in and be great because they’re counting on you to be great”?

Chaz "Sweaty" Green was a worse pick than Taco!

Lets compare that to the damage Chaz Green has wrought upon us.

Also whatever happened to Randle and McFadden?

Every team every year can look at their picks with the benefit of hindsight and find players they would have been better off picking. That doesn't mean much. With Gregory there might be a real complaint though because we had warning signs about his drug problems.
