The Dolphins are releasing veteran edge Bradley Chubb

Clowney costs probably a third of what Chubb would.

And their 2025 stats were nearly identical, despite the fact that Clowney played in 4 fewer games.

Return on investment. And lack thereof.
Chubb has 19.5 sacks in 2023 and 2025 (missed 2024). And I dont think he would cost that much. Neither will Clowney. We can easily have both. And I think that would excellent. Two vet rushers to go with the up and coming Ezeiruaku.

I think combine Clowney/Chubb contracts would come in under 25m per year total. I think thats great value for a combo of guys that are both bankable for 6-10 sacks

Somehow they always are
They don’t do all that well with free agents. Barkley was a no brainer. Baun was like a winning lottery ticket. They were as surprised as anyone. Most free agents they sign have limited impact. Give them credit for continuing to try, though.

I definitely want to draft at least one, preferably more.
I dont think retaining Clowney and signing Chubb takes DE off the menu at all. Both would be short term, and DE's tend to be unproductive year 1. Your 4th DE typically gets a solid diet of snaps, and that probably where you want a rookie DE starting at on a winning team

I was a huge Chubb supporter when he was in the draft. He's a terrific player, and produces (averages 9.1 sacks for a 17 game schedule average) but is not on the field enough. Has been dinged most of his career. For a one year deal, I'm down. Beyond that, I'd have some reservations.

Bingo! I'm not sure fans understand how strong a season that Clowney had. He played in 13 games and started only 6, but finished the season with 9 sacks. Not to mention he's a damn good run defender and an excellent locker room player.

It's no wonder he was the first player Stephen Jones called out for a new contract after the season.

A lot of that production came last game though I don’t know wth Giants were doing.

Chubb/clowney/EZ/1st round pick/Houston would be excellent edge depth and could make the DL be a legitimate strength.

Bringing in Chubb could also give you some draft flexibility if you didn’t want to use a 1st round pick on an edge player.

Clowney at $7 million is definitely great value.

I’d have to see Chubb’s asking price.

I think he’s asking for in excess of $15 million a year and I don’t think the current version is worth that anymore.

I would go with a one year deal with Chubb if he wants too much. Ten million or so per year is about the limit.

Typical starting DE's run 20m. 15m is great value for Chubb

Dolphins defense was terrible to start the year, but they rebounded to a solid bunch.

Chubb is who he is. Solid 2 way edge that has injury concerns.

Wouldn't mind him as an option, but only on a team friendly deal/incentives tied to health for guarantees

you know what this means?

we need a group of us to demand we sign every FA because other teams players are better than ours even tho we draft hof'ers im a bit on the tired side, but come on posters, lets steam roll this. we need this guy.
