The Draft and 40 times

Raghib "Rocket" Ismael: 5'11', 187 lbs, 4.28 seconds 40 time......SPEED!

Raghib "Rocket" Ismael had an 80 receptions, 1,100 yards receiving and 6 TDs season for the Cowboys in 1999 when Troy Aikman was throwing to him. Rocket's speed definitely was a difference maker.

Too bad the Cowboys got Rocket Ismail to play for them towards the Rocket's last few years of his career. Imagine if the Cowboys had drafted Rocket Ismail in 1993 when he first joined the NFL? Wow, Rocket could have easily helped the Dallas Cowboys his rookie 1993 year and every year after that when the Cowboys won the Super Bowl in 1993, 1994 and 1996. Heck, Rocket with his speed could have made a difference and helped reach and win a Super Bowl in 1995 when the Cowboys lost in the NFC Championship Game to the 49ers. Just think about that. SPEED KILLS and definitely makes a difference.

As for Antonio Bryant, he never had speed. For a WR, he ran a slow 4.57 second 40 yard dash, and it showed on the field the few years he played in Dallas.

As for Alexander Wright and his alleged 4.14 seconds 40 time and winning the NFL's Fastest Man Competition in 1992 and 1993, the man was a track star, not a bonafied football player, hence why he struggled to ever accomplish anything with the Cowboys or any other team thereafter.

Alexander Wright even stunk as a player in college (Auburn). Absolutely was not a football player. Only good for running track.

Why the ?
I was just bringing up some players in the draft. Dang. It wasn't personal.

Dallas could have had Ismail. The consensus was Dallas was going to draft him. But he went to Toronto CFL instead, and it was 1991, not 1993.
However, I believe all along Jimmy was planning to draft Russell Maryland, which they did. There were better players, but they went with him. A solid pick, but not worth the overall #1 IMO.

The Raiders took him in the 4th round and owned his rights. He did basically nothing in his career except 2 years he had 1,000 yards, one with the Panthers, one with Dallas.
He came to Dallas in 1999.

No, they are all important, but they are simply tools to help evaluate players. What you're trying to say is that the combine shouldn't be used as a standalone judgment tool. It's just a small part of the evaluation.
I hear you, I was just saying that some of the things that they do for guys they'll never need in an actual game. Test them on concepts or something like how John Gruden does on his tv shoes, see how sharp they are mentally

Put them in real life situations, give them 2 weeks of free time, have them come back and tell you exactly what they did lol, see if anyone got in any trouble that they shouldn't have

The  was nothing personal, brother.

Yes, Rocket only had 2 1k+ seasons, but his QBs and teams during those low numbers years absolutely stunk. Had he been drafted by the Cowboys in the early 90s, I do believe Rocket Ismail would have had way better seasons and more than two 1k+ receiving seasons throughout his career. Imagine our 3 starting WRs from 1991 and forward would have been Michael Irvin, Alvin Harper and Rocket Ismail? WOAH! Would have arguably been the best trio throughout all of the 90s and definitely would have helped even more.

Rocket may not have had a Hall of Fame or elite career but those two back to back 1000 yards are hard to do back then in the NFL the rules were different the hand checking the contact they played press a lot that's why big receivers back then were valued more for blocking in the run game and overcoming the physicality plus your quarterback could be destroyed as well...

so don't dismiss what he did I mean that was a solid career but you're right it may have been a bit overrated but maybe in a different offense in a different time you know being in one of those running shoot or full wide open 3 4 wide receiver sets where they threw a lot he probably would have been a lot better....

It's not much different than now the mobile quarterback,

they're now designing college quarterbacks into offenses that fit in the NFL now instead of making them fit the old NFL Pro style offenses they're finally doing that there's a lot of quarterbacks back in the day that didn't get as good a shot because they didn't know how to develop offenses or they refused to develop the offenses same thing with some of these wide receivers they didn't scheme these guys up there fast so we'll throw them on the field let them run the same routes as everyone else but you get the right offense the right scheme the creative play collar they would have had bigger careers...

So, I wouldn't put rocket in that department where you're saying they've speed is the only thing he had, and you should stay away from guys like that no I think he was a really good receiver. I'd say that he's similar could be brandin cooks as a good comp for him. Put him in today's NFL that's who he is...
