I keep seeing that handing the reigns to Dak instead of back to Romo was the wrong move…

Whatever your thoughts are on Dak, Romo was done.

I love Romo as much as anyone, but there’s a reason why he didn’t play for another NFL team after Dak took over— he was done.
He may have been done. I won't argue that either way here.
But the story of why he never played for another team is not because he couldn't or nobody wanted him.
(Btw, He STILL has not officially retired from the Cowboys)
Jerry did not want Romo playing elsewhere, had some deep ties to friends at CBS, and thought (correctly) that he'd be a great commentator.
The rest is history.

Its not Daks upside I question. It’s his downside.

Will he cost us games a bus driver like Rush would win. Simply by being smarter?
Rush isn't smarter. He's less risk averse which works when you face overmatched opponents and can win scoring +20 points.
The next two weeks won't be that so we will see how cornballs feel if Rush has to face those defenses.
Rush had 2 INT overturned via penalties on WAS simply because he lacked arm strength.

Pretending he does anything better than Dak is just sheer stupidity.

In 2001, Bill Belichek went with the young, green, still learning back up over the all star but can’t get you over the hump, there is just something missing veteran. The rest is history.

Jerry thought he had a similar situation when he went with the hot hand Dak, over a returning veteran who was great but couldn’t get to the promised land. It turns out in retrospect, that was the wrong move.

Not sure how that was the wrong move. Romo had never gotten the Cowboys over the hump and retired at the end of the season.

In this case, I don't think it matters. Dak is Dak, but anyone convincing themselves that Rush is Brady should just enjoy the ride while it lasts. He's not that guy.

Thats not untrue but also not hardly all the story.

Romo wasn't convinced he could pass a physical. This is a big deal because even if the team waived it, he'd have to also waive the insurance protection he had in Dallas.
The money he made at CBS(5M) was solid but hardly QB money.
He took the deal willingly and let go even though a few teams (HOU/JAX??) were interested.
The reason he didn't file paperwork was because he felt he could possibly get healthy and return in a year or so if Dak went down.
Also because it kept pressure on CBS to pay him very, very well which they did upon contract renewal.

Yeah I didn’t mean to insinuate that no teams would give him a chance. I was mostly commenting on the outcome.

Romo had a choice and he took the booth. Most players wouldn’t do that unless they feel they’re done (or if they suck).

Neither Dak or Rush is the answer.

Also, Rush and Dak are basically the same age.

Brady is 5 years younger than Bledsoe.

I agree with this. If anything this has proven Dak is mediocre to good with a great supporting cast to mask his issues.

The NFC East is the only division with 3 teams with 3 or more wins, can't be that bad if they are beating other divisions.
so some of those wins are against each other...

again, I have heard this story before.....Dak sucks because he can only beat NFCLeast teams and NFCE sucks.

now, it seems that it doesn't matter.

the narrative changes based on the argument.

So here we are. Do we stay with the hot hand, or go back to the veteran who can’t seem to get us over the hump?

In this case, I do think Dak is the better player. I just think maybe he needs Cooper to read the defense for him somehow.
You can't. Would I? Probably not. Should you? Should I? I don't know. If this was college, I definitely would.

If anybody here honestly thinks Dak Prescott, here in his seventh NFL season with 55 career wins, cannot read a defense at this point then I just don't know what to tell you.

I hope it doesn't happen, but some bad games by Cooper Rush would spell the end of this honeymoon as well.

Take a look at all the 40 million and above QB's. If injured would any of those teams have a brewing QB question? No, because if you are paying 40 million, that better be the unquestionable best player. We've got a mess on our hands.

Best analogy may be nick foles and Carson wentz.

backup journeyman. High paid unproven guy.

journey takes them to and wins Super Bowl.

You’re the only one talking about a narrative.

Others were just stating a truth. Giants have a winning record. Fact.

I was thinking he was out for the remainder of the year, but I looked back and found you are right on this.
actually brady got banged up, and bledsoe played in and won the champ game I think, then bill chose brady for the SB.
That is very unusual, for former star and starter to play in a playoff game or champ game, win, and then not get the start in SB.

It turned out to be the right move though.

I thought about this same scenario, brady back then lacked physical skills, arm strength, etc, was just a good game manager, who didnt make many
mistakes, and had a knack for winning close games.

That is similar to rush, and not saying rush is the next brady, just that maybe he could do something if he kept starting.
Next 2 games will tell us if he is that guy.
If rush wins next 2 games, he has to keep starting for this season.

Yeah, I think his preferences were
1) Cowboys--but fair and square competition to start
2) CBS booth
3) any other team...he didn't want to start over unless the team was good and had a decent oline. He often said he could never imagine playing anywhere but Dallas.

He never has retired from the Cowboys
The Irony is the Mavs signed him and allowed him to retire ....lol. Even threw him a giant party.
