The effect of Witten in our pass game

In the past he was a chess piece in our offense but at this moment he can't provide any kind of stress to the defense. The TE position in our offense scheme is an extension of the OL. Maybe one of the change in the scheme must be the way on how we use TE, more dynamic, attacking the middle of the field. I'm tired on see thoose 5-7 yds. routes. Look how Ertz, Kelce, Graham, Gronk and Jordan Reed create headache to the defense and open the game to the WR.Our scheme kill any talented TE. Draft dynamic TE that attack the field and create mismatch.

I agree. Seeing the rise of Gronk, Ertz, Reed, etc has changed the offensive game plan of their teams.

Pains me to say this but Witten has been more of a hindrance than a game changer. Sure he has his great moments but we see far more of those 5-7 yard passes.

Except Witten averaged 9+ yards in 2017... and you are supposed to use your back/ body to shield the defender so he can not defend the catch.

This offensive scheme uses the TE pass like a trick play. Only to be used once a game. Honestly if were going to just keep both TE in to block we might as well put an extra linemen out there. An extra linemen on the strong side with a TE on the backside who can run routes for an easy catch.

I love J_Witt, he will forever be one of my favorite Cowboys but we need some speed at that position. We all know J_Witt will be a Cowboy next season, hopefully as a part timer player\coach. I can see the Cowboys using a 2nd rounder on a TE, maybe a 1st, you never know with JJ.

Picking on Witten when there are so many other major issues is silly. We need a head coach, QB, WR, help on the D-line, LB, and safety. Get all those problems fixed and then we can worry about hall of fame Witten.

Witten is a huge liability. He can't block and he can't run. He is smart.

If you are going to keep Witten on the team (I hope they don't) you have to have a ton of speed around him so that they are so worried about everyone else that they will let him run 6 seconds and get 10 yards down the field.
