The Fatal Flaw in the Patriots Legacy.
http://profootballtalkline.com/nfl/news/24713/the-fatal-flaw-in-the-patriots-legacy.html/

...In their seven Super Bowl appearances, New England has a 5-2 record and both of those times the Super Bowl losses were to the hands of Eli Manning and the New York Giants. In Super Bowl XLII many people thought that the Patriots were going to be coronated as the first team to be 19-0 in NFL history. Yet, the New York Giants shocked the world. With phenomenal play from Big Blues defensive line and a spectacular play by Eli Manning and David Tyree in the 4th quarter the Giants were able to end the Patriots quest for perfection and won Super Bowl XLII 17-14.

While many thought that one Super Bowl win was a fluke and Manning and the Giants just got lucky. Many NFL followers would state how Brady was the prototype quarterback while Eli Manning was an enigma. Manning could make a spectacular throw on one play and the next play fall victim to a sack fumble. Yet, four years later the two teams meet again in Super Bowl XLVI. Big Blue used the same formula by having a great defensive front hit Tom Brady as much as possible and a timely 4th quarter throw by Eli Manning, this time to Mario Manningham, to win 21-17.

Since Super Bowl XLVI Manning and the Giants have yet to win a playoff game while Brady was able to win one more Super Bowl this time against the Seattle Seahawks thanks to the Malcolm Butler interception. And while Brady, Belichick, and the Patriots kept on adding rings there is one argument that can deflate the Patriots dynasty and that is the Patriots have never beaten Eli Manning and the Giants in the Super Bowl. The way to finally eliminate this blemish would be to play the Giants in the Super Bowl and have New England finally defeat Big Blue in the biggest game of the year. While it will take both teams reaching the Super Bowl , if Brady and the Patriots do not defeat an Eli Manning led Giants team in the Super Bowl there will always be a tarnish on the Patriots legacy.

There is no rule of thumb that can prove Brady is the greatest of all time.

The fatal flaw in the Patriots legacy is SpyGate and then later DeflateGate. I personally don't think they needed to cheat. They are a good team that plays in an embarrassing division. But, their cheating put a dent in the integrity of the game and was the start of the fans' distrust in Roger Goodell. Ironically, many fans trust Goodell less after SpyGate because the team he helped cover up their cheating...cheated again and now paints Goodell as the bad guy.

I'm not the type that goes out an accuses people of cheating without good proof. But, we simply don't know what else the Patriots are doing that is obscenely illegal. If anything ever comes up, even as low as paying off referees, paying off opposing team employees for information, etc....it really wouldn't surprise me. And there will still be fanboys who will try to excuse this behavior.

In the end, they will ALWAYS be remembered for SpyGate and DeflateGate along with their Super Bowl trophies. If that doesn't stain their legacy, I don't know what does.

Brady was a HOF lock in 2005.

Then he won 2 more Super Bowls and set the records for Super Bowl wins and playoff wins.

He's going down as the GOAT no matter what a handful of pee-pants babies feel about him.

He was no HOF lock in 2005.

Multiple formations confused him at that point.

hey, love this game, 2 less lucky Eli passes and he'd be 7-0.

The Tyree catch was lucky, but didn't decide the game. The Manningham catch was a great throw and a great catch that these guys practice for.

Compare that against having the ball at the 1-yard line with one of the very best RB's in the game and...throwing the ball. Or having a 25-point lead and abandoning the run and then the embarrassing play calls when the Falcons were in field goal range.

The Patriots are a well run team that distributes its cap space to fill its rosters with average talent and has BB to coach them up to perform at a high level. The league is filled with teams that have a large percentage of their cap money spent on a few big name skill players surrounded by bottom tier bums (Green Bay) when you look at NE, the percentage of cap money is more evenly dispersed to acquire a roster filled with smart average talent that believe in a system. The Patriots dynasty run has A lot more to do with BB than Tom Brady.

Are you surprised the Super Bowl didn't cost Kyle Shanahan the head coaching job in San Francisco?

Nope. They already made their decision. And Jed York is notoriously cheap, so getting Shanahan cheap is a higher priority for him.

Well back to the basement for another 10 years. At this point all 49er fans can pray for is Lynch making good on solid defensive draft picks. It will take five years at minimum to get this team competitive again and even that's a stretch. This team is a runaway train wreck :(

Tom Brady = A-Rod

More like Peyton Manning = A-Rod. Both were PED cheats who were largely irrelevant in the playoffs, but put up huge regular season numbers and got lots of regular season awards. Peyton Manning just had better PR.

Again, the 'evidence' against Peyton for PED use is nowhere near what Brady had for DeflateGate or A-Rod had for PED use.

Peyton's wife was a customer at a health and massage spa that does face lifts, massages and other therapeutic services and holistic medicines. They also offer HGH that could be prescribed to people (my cousin had to take HGH as a teenager since he was uncharacteristically small for his age). There was no proof of any HGH being sent to the Manning home nor proof that Peyton went to the business himself. It wouldn't be the least bit surprising if Peyton's wife had no idea that they offered HGH injections.

As a Yankees fan though, I would never compare Brady to A-Rod. One guy stepped up more often than not for big games...the other continually hit into double plays.

But claiming that Manning is an outright PED cheat without any evidence is irresponsible.
