(My apologies if the thread title gets that song stuck in your head.)

It's finally here folks, the week we all hope flies by at record speed, but probably won't. Rumors are going to fly, threads are going to run amok, but at least Tony Romo's love life might finally take a back seat to other news. I hate that paparazzi, wannabe news crap with a passion equal to the way some apparently love it judging by the thread that won't die. Unfortunately the news that replaces that topic might be 4 threads a day about how we could end up with McFadden. Oh you know it's true, someone is going to join the forum this week and their very first post and thread is going to be "Think We Might Move Up For McFadden?" As if we've never ever considered it.

Okay, so I'm a pessimist. Sue me.

Here are the stories that will get a lot of play this week and what I think will happen.

Might as well begin with a trade up for Dmac scenario. I will say it again, I don't believe Jerry even considers it until he falls past the 10th pick, and I don't believe he ever gets close to doing that. My money is on the Jets at 6. If he falls, yeah, Jerry will probably make a move and honestly who could blame him? Okay, so some could.

Chad Johnson trade. I don't believe the Bengals are in a position to do anything right now. That could change after June 1 especially if we do not pull off a trade for Bolden or Williams on the day of the Draft. Why June 1st? Because after that Cincy can spread the cap hit over 2 years. If we don't acquire Bolden or Williams on Draft day, I could honestly see Jerry making a run at Chad Johnson. If we don't get a WR with the 28 pick folks, look for Chad Johnson to Dallas after June 1 to be the big rumor post draft.

Anquan Bolden trade on Draft day. I don't think it will happen, but I admit I would love it. Why don't I think it would happen? One reason and one only, there's been no smoke from the media to suggest it's being discussed. Speculated, sure it is. Actually discussed, no evidence. You don't see weekly rumors of Arizona denying they'd move him. Why not? Simple, there's no hints about it the way there has been for Williams and Johnson.

Roy Williams trade. It could be losing steam because of Rod Maranelli's obstinance. Can anyone actually still deny there were some legs to this story? My gosh every major news outlet brings it up. They aren't doing that because some Longhorns fans want him to come home to Texas. I still believe it will get done for all of the reasons I have already stated. I've been wrong before. I would like to point out though that the Lions Head Coach is not the Lions GM, and the GM, who hopefully has a better grasp on NFL reality (no I wouldn't put money on it) has not denied the trade could happen. I still think it will, but I openly admit I may be clinging to fading hope.

If the Williams trade doesn't happen...what? I have a feeling Jerry will try and move out of round 1 with the 28 pick. The problem might be that San Diego and a couple of other teams higher than 28 want to as well. Who are the most likely trade partners? Miami and Atlanta would be my guesses. Their target? Quarterback, and if I had to guess, I'd say it was Chad Henne over Brian Brohm and Joe Flacco. Never thought I'd say that. Especially over Brohm. Why do I say it now? Because there's plenty of evidence surfacing that Henne is the next guy on NFL lists after Matt Ryan.

Is Pacman coming to Big D? Probably. That's honestly the best I can guess right now. Bud Adams happens. They are running out of time on their extortion demands of 2 picks. That isn't going to happen. If they want a 6th this year the clock is ticking. I think Jerry could offer our 5th. I doubt he will go any higher. If the trade doesn't happen because Bud Adams happens then what? Tennessee is then over a barrell because they've virtually made it impossible for Pacman to go back to the Titans. They know that. That's why this trade probably finally happens. I'm still shocked it didn't happen before the Owner's Meetings and especially during them. I woudl have lost money on a bet after that thread.

What are we doing on Day 1 of the Draft? Prior to the last week if you had asked me this I would have said Talib at 22, trade for Roy Williams at 28, and Felix Jones in the 2nd round. Since then Talib missed a chance to meet with Dallas, Detroit hasn't shown motivation to do the move they know they need to, and Felix Jones seems to have climbed some Draft boards. If I had to guess today I suppose I'd say Kenny Phillips at 22 (yes, really), a trade at 28 if possible, if not Cason or Talib, and no idea on round 2 until I know whether we can trade out of 28 or not. Make no mistake about it, I do believe we want Felix Jones. Not only to be Barber's backup, but to return kickoffs too. I do not believe we would look at pciking a WR in round 1.

These are my best guesses about the speculation that will run amok this week.

Hos, these are my exact thoughts. If you think about what this team needs to get to a SB this year, you think CB and S. I didn't start thinking about Phillips seriously until this week. And mentioned it yesterday.

If we draft Phillips then you (hopefully) eliminate one problem at S. RW won't return to form and/or Hamlin will be too expensive to keep.

Do you think Phillips is going to be a good safety or better, a superior one?

PS: haven't forgotten WR but I think this gets solved outside the draft. Either internally or a cut in camp.

I like Phillips, but disagree with one poster who think she is the best Safety prospect in years. That would be Laron Landry last year in that role.

I don't know how serious we could be in him but I suspect we're higher on him than people think. He's a FS naturally, but could probably play SS.

Our current FS is a natural SS. He was franchised and the salaries for franchised safeties has escalated. Thank you Jets. If we got Phillips perhaps we'd remove the tag and let Hamlin sign elsewhere? I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be shocked.

I think we'd rather keep him. The problem is Roy is also expensive. This is make or break year for Roy if he even gets a shot. After June 1, we'll know more. If we get Phillips and don't remove the tag on Hamlin, I'd say the writing is on the wall.

We lost a SS in Keith Davis. I don't see Watkins moving to SS and I don't see Hamlin or Roy being backups at that position. If we don't get Phillips I do think we will draft a SS. Maybe Tyrell Johnson in round 2.

One way or the other this is a critical year for our Safeties. All of them. They brought in an extra coach for the DBs in Brett Maxie. I think there won't be any excuses tolerated.

I like Phillips but he's honestly not nearly the need that we have at CB, even if we get Adam Jones.

I just can't seem to get down with Felix Jones. Although it seems like that's where we're headed.

Most of us realize our priority needs are at CB, WR, RB in any order you want. If the top CBs are gone (McKelvin/Cromartie/Jenkins) when we draft at 22, have no problems if Cowboys go with Talib if he's not a reach. Also don't have a problem drafting Stewart at 22 if he falls to us.

Like the idea of trading for a vet WR like RWilliams, Boldin or CJohnson but really doubt it happens; also don't like the idea of waiting til summer in hopes somebody gets cut or we can get a trade down. It's just too chancy. So if no trade at draft time, we gotta bite the bullet & draft a WR to develop so he'll be ready soon. We can still trade or pick up a vet WR if one becomes available this year. I just don't want us to continue to wait and wait. If TO goes down, our season will be damaged just as much as if we lost Romo. Expecting Romo to win big games with the likes of Witten, Crayton, Hurd & Austin is ridiculous; none have any speed except Austin & he's wasn't consistent in TC nor later.

But also fully agree we got other important needs & certainly a SS & an ILB & maybe even a DT. Also won't hurt to add a quality OG whose got plenty of experience at C & along the OL.

Rachal is a good OG but he doesn't play any other OL positions like Mike McGlynn of Pitts can do. can also play Cta add a SS who can learn/develop this year cause who knows if RWilliams will be around after 08 season. I'm not as high on Phillips as some of you but understand it's not a great year for safeties. We just must make sure whoever we draft is smart & athletic enough to wrap up when he tackles but can also play very well in pass coverage. We don't need another SS who makes the highlight films; actually I think Hamlin would be very effective there so who knows.

Must admit this draft leaves me unsettled. It's only a few more days to the draft & we've got no idea of who we've got a shot at. I guess it's because we've never drafted so low before (13-3 seasons do that) so much is out of our control. Let's just hope a few playes we can really use either slide to us or Jerry can make a trade to get us in good situation. But even trading down doesn't look that feasible since it appears other teams around us also interested in trading down. Darn those Cleveland Browns. If only they could have controlled themselves & only gone 8-8. With that record, their pick would put us in pretty good place to fill at least a CB need.

Again exactly on the mark. Here is where the scouting has to be spot on. And I don't mean just scouting Phillips who has gotten mixed reviews. I'd like to know why is that, BTW. They had better milk this draft for DBs at an A+ level all the way thru UDFAs.

They have to address this or I'm afraid we will be fatally flawed. I don't know how we can play at a high level with problems at CB and S. My worry is Roy plays like Roy, Henry is sub-par due to injury, TNew is still less than normal, Pacman is not here, and we are stuck with unproven CBs.

They have got to hit a homerun somewhere. Here's hoping Brown and Ball come thru.

I don't think you can just remove the tag now.

I like Phillips a lot.

However, I don't know if I could take all the "bench Roy" threads.
