the fix is in...

A lot of laundry was dumped on the pats in that game. had Manning played better in the red zone that game would have been out of reach early in the third. I have no doubt that Goodell, under orders from the owners, buried all the evidence against the Pats. And in the long run it is probably for the best. I also have no doubt that Kraft was told by the rest of the owners that it will never happen again or he loses the franchise. Bellicheat has also probably been told that he will retire from the Pats and never coach in the NFL again.
Now I am not saying ALL the owners were in on this- I am betting that a select few, four or five, were delegated to take care of the whole thing. Undoubtedly the ones delegated would also be the ones with the most to lose if it all got out and really damaged the NFL. Self interest is a great motivator. Goodell also knows that if it ever got out he is ruined for doing anything else again as well. Self interest again. Rumor has it only two people in the NFL office actually saw all the evidence and then destroyed it. You can bet those two will be WELL taken care of.

Now how does my conspiracy stack up?

So a lawyer friend of yours is friends with another lawyer. This other lawyer had enough evidence to sue the NFL and evidently also enough to force them into a settlement. This other lawyer then shared, presumably, this settlement with other people, including lawyers. Now, I'm reading about it on a discussion group.

I have just a few problems with this story.

  • Why would any lawyer with that kind of information settle? Money? If he did, the NFL would surely have absolute guarantees that the information would never leak out. If he did, the NFL would have suppressed ANY sharing of the information. The breach of the settlement would end your lawyer friend's lawyering career rather quickly and I would venture threaten his very existence is the whole system were as cancerous as it would have to be for this to be true.
  • If the mob were involved in NFL fixing of games and some bloke comes forward with proof, they most likely wind up visiting Jimmy Hoffa for a long stretch. If the mob OKed a settlement and then your friend's friend starts blabbing and it winds up as a discussion thread, someone would pay most severely.
  • Finally, there are too many people involved in the NFL. Some of these guys would go right along, but never all. Seriously, does any bone in your body tell you that Landry would have played party to this? For that matter, do you really think Reverend White, former DE for the Eagles, would have thrown enough games to ensure that the Eagles would NEVER win a Superbowl?
Conspiracy theorists love this kind of stuff. I guess I'm just not one of them.

And once again, a football-related thread causes me to remember the movie Idiocracy. Ow My Balls!

Its hard to stack golf balls. :)

This just doesn't add up. Let's say only a handful of owners are involved. they would have to be the power brokers in the NFL to have enough impact. They would surely have to be the ones who make decisions about where new franchises are awarded. They would also need to have real authority in who is able to purchase franchises as they come up for sale. Say what you want about Jerry Jones and even little Napoleon, but these guys want to win. They want to be thought of as smarter than everyone else. Egomaniacs if you will. NO WAY JONES LAYS DOWN FOR THE PATS. Neither would the Skin's owner. They are both far to prideful. So how did they ever get team ownership if the NFL is based on a long-term system of fixing the outcomes of games?

Do I think the Pats cheated? Dang straight. Did Goodell try and get past this at all costs? You bet. Did the Pats come out on top? A most emphatic "YES!" But are all of the games fixed or any games on a regular basis? No and no.

yes, the nfl is little more than a big reality show but I happen to like it. It is very well produced

Kids!!

What kind of make-believe will they come up with next?

What is the name of the mobster who would call Howard Stern?

I remember him saying Vegas fixed all big games in sports and the leagues were in on it.

He stated the refs were used for the most part to control outcomes.

If there were any fixing going on, I would suspect the officials would be the vehicle as both players and coaches are too unstable and it would surface the first time an ex-player got down on his luck and desperate. I totally doubt the NFL higher ups are directly involved; even if they were in on it, their job would probably be to put on an honest front and quietly accept the increases in their Swiss or Bermudan bank accounts. Surely they would not be contacting the players directly and actually telling them to throw games - that is beyong credible.

I have no doubt that certain refs have deliberately affected the outcomes of games but instant replay stopped a lot of that but it doesn't cover everything. There are still openings for calls that can influence the outcomes of games and I'm sure big betters would do anything to have some ref making sure that he gets his way - or else.

I have felt for a long time that the outcomes or point spreads of some games are determined by some officials who have an agenda of their own. I came to the conclusion that I couldn't do anything about it so I stopped letting my feelings go unchecked and getting deeply depressed after losses; after all, it wasn't really my problem, I wasn't on the team. I quit taking football personal and just settled back to watch the games without the screaming fits and throwing things. Some people need that kind of release but I don't anymore.

Just my opinion. :)

Yeah, I remember when I was about 10 or so and I learned that wrestling was fake. I won't say football is fake because there are too many actors, but it is a managed, albeit chaotic, stage based reality show. There are certain guidelines and if the producers of the show want to pomote or depress something they can make it happen, either through the refs, tv coverage, scheduling, etc.

Wise words. I agree with everything you said.

Does that mean that the WWE is the only legitimate sport left in America?

Okay so take this for what it is worth. My lawyer used to take me to the Dallas vs Eagles game out in philly all the time. He knows that I am a huge football fan so he gave me a call when he heard this news. Apparently a friend of his just settled out of court with the NFL. He represented some casinos out in reno, They were supposedly sueing the NFL because they had proof that the Colts vs Pats game was fixed. His friend said that they had audio footage of certin Colts players that said they were told by NFL higher ups to make it look like a good game but to lose. The players signed paper work confirming the story and said that they were not the only team. The NFL settled out of court before the paper work was even filed and had everyone sign documents that said if anyone spoke a word of it that the money would be given back to the NFL and a trial would take place. My question to you is did we throw the game? Please say it isn't so. Also did you suspect anything? I mean the Pats going on a hot streak like this after they get cought cheating and all the pappers and video being destoyed... Kinda fishy to me.

A few questions so I can start my own investigation:

  1. Do you have a lawyer on retainer? If so, why? how much?
  2. Who is representing the casino's in Vegas? Is it Tom Hagen or a "friend" of the "family"?

Wow!!! Who is this guy and where did he come from?

I Believe you, NOT!!!LOL

Thanks for the tip man!

I just put everything I own on the Pat's to go undefeated and win the SB.

I'd like to at least buy you a beer when the payoff comes in.

Thanks again.

Cowboys lost against the Pats. It wasn't fixed. Yes, there were horrible calls, but Roger Goodell did not go up to the Cowboys Org and tell them to lose.

Wasn't this a plot-line to a Lifetime Network movie, starring Tyne Daly and Howard Hesseman?
