The Flozell Adams difference

amazing look at Flo's impact in the lineup as opposed to w/ him out of the lineup

23 more sacks given up w/o him, wow

he's an inconsistent tackle, but he's still very good as evidenced here, great research, Adam will be proud

We did miss Adams.....

but didn't Vinny and Carter also light it up the first 5 or 6 games and then tailed off....

I think the struggles our O had is more complicated than just missing Adams....JMHO

very good point, alot of Bledsoe's struggles were receivers outside of Glenn having trouble getting seperation at the line, plus a QB's favorite target, a TE as the hot receiver, that being Witten in our case, was having to stay back and help with the pass protection, improving the supporting cast at the skill positions is just as important as improving the line, which is where the signing of TO, and the move to a more prominent role of the 2-TE formation, comes into play

again, great point

It won't shock me if Flo has some injury residue come September that compromises his play a bit. Its certainly not unheard of. There is no reason to think that will be real significant though.

I think Johnson & Peterman's year 2 performances suffered more from the fact that they were still rookies after their year long rehabs rather than lingering physical issues. Having to work out the inexperience while also shaking the physical rust off would be doubly difficult.

I think most folks probably feel that even an 80% Flo is many times better than Torrin Tucker was. Thus the optimism.

Not sure how you'd feel anyone is disrespecting Flo in this. Quite the contrary.

I think Flo on a torn ACL would have been better than Tucker. If I wasn't worried about his career and just last season I would have left him out there.;)

No kidding. In Madden, I trade Greg Ellis for a 1st rounder. In Madden, I address the OL with two 1st round picks in the first offseason (my original one + Greg Ellis trade)....unless a stud CB is there for the taking, I draft OT, OG.

Kosier is on the bench in year two. And as soon as it makes financial sense, I cut Kosier.

And I develop Pettiti at RT FWIW. And I usually look at center in round two of the draft, so Al Johnson becomes the backup; Gurode gets cut.

If only it was real life....and not Madden....

I'm glad it's in Madden and not in real life. Just think if JJ & BP used this for their philosophy. :) j/k

It would be nice to get a 1st rounder for Ellis at this point. But just the same, I'll be glad to have him on the team also. It would be nice to have those option to develop talented players, but unfortunately, can't happen too often now days of FA.

Bah....you just don't know a super bowl team when you see it. :)

j/k.

Yeah, we'd be lucky to get a day one pick for Ellis, much less a 1st. Though, if a stud CB is there.... for some reason, I like to collect CB's....I usually take one.

Its my weakness. Drafting young, speedy, CB's.

Wasn't just Witten. Key was held back in pass protection too it got so bad.

But I don't think the comparison holds.

Quincy wasn't very good. Bill managed to disguise that for a while, but Tampa figured out you could basically ignore Hambrick and put a bunch of guys in coverage and it confused the heck out of Quincy. Everyone else fallowed suit, and by the end of the year Quincy almost didn't even to bother to look down field.

Vinny lost Terry in Game 6. All that was left were a couple of rookies, a much slower Keyshawn playing with a bum knee, and Witten who everyone just doubled up.

Last year I think the decline is directly related to Flo. We just couldn't give help to 2 OTs who desperately needed it.

true, but even when he wasn't back pass-protecting, he was slow getting off his man

I'm not saying it wasn't directly related to Flo, just that we've been down this road for the last 3 years, that's why we need a good enough line, and a good enough supporting cast to sustain our offensive explosions, when opposing teams have enough tape in which to study in order to best defend, which we've addressed this year
