This time of the year is the most maddening due to the continuous cycle of repeated storylines and hype. Yet, I still enjoy the speculation and anticipation of what's to come as I drink my own glass of Kool aid.
I was reading the forum on Xavier Woods and the number of possibilities at Safety (i.e. Heath, Frazier, Blanton, some even think Awuzie).. while looking up our current depth chart, I scrolled across the name of Jamiell Showers.
At 6'2 230lbs(rumor is he's trying to get to 215) , he can run 4.5-6 and it would come natural to play the 'QB of defense' role, wouldn't it? The Coaches seem to love the guy. I know what your thinking, no way! I technically don't think he'll make the team either.. at least not as a Safety.
See, the backup QB storyline seems to haunt this team every year, which I guess is better than what the Texans went through last year. I guess my question is.. could Jamiell be a viable Backup? His game/style is similar to Dak's, and the offense wouldn't have to adjust much. We can avoid the rumored baggage of Kaepernick also.

At least one guy thinks so..

..again, it's that time of the year.. I'm thinking outside the box here..

But can he tackle!
Probable the single most important factor when attempting to transition from QB to safety.
Would rather have seen him kept in the BU QB competition, but we shall see.

Kinda off topic

I think Blanton and Carroll, will end up being good signings this year. Some of these rookies are bound to struggle, having these vet could save the defense with all the inexperience.

Since he joined the Cowboys, he's been an enigma. We heard reports from training camp last year he looked better than Dak, but once preseason began that never showed up on the field. For me, I'm going to have to see it.

When the thread is exclusively about Jamiell Showers anything is on topic

Forgotten for a reason.

He just isn't that good.
Not to be a dick, but his future isn't at QB and we have enough safeties on the roster.
We didn't bother keeping him at QB when Romo and Moore were out with injuries. We played Mark freaking Sanchez in a throw away game in week 17. We didn't care if we won or lost that game.

Won't make roster because of Scott Linehan lovefest for his boy Moore. It is what it is. Unless Showers gets qb snaps at camp and preseason and totally outplays Moore.

What's it going to be then, eh?

He is not going to be in the mix at QB.

Q: In addition to adding veteran free agents like CB Nolan Carroll and S Robert Blanton this offseason, you also have an interesting project that continues in regards to S Jameill Showers. One summer ago Showers was moved from quarterback to safety and spent all of last season on the practice squad as one of your defensive backs. What kind of progress do you see from Showers?

Baker: “We’re really happy with what Showers has done. He’s turned his body from a quarterback body to a defensive back body which is a lot different. You can tell he looks slimmer and he’s moving a lot better. The whole athleticism part of it is so much different at that position. I’m really proud of how he’s worked. He’s still got a ways to go, but movement-wise – in terms of his backpedaling, changing direction, all those things you do as a defensive back – he’s really doing a nice job. As a former quarterback, he has a sense of the big-picture understanding of what the offense is trying to do against certain defenses. What’s different for Jameill and different for anyone moving from offense to defense is more those reactive instincts. He has to flip that around in his mind. Instead of calling a play and knowing what’s going to happen, now he has to call a defense and now react to what the offense does. So it’s a little bit different. That’s the process he has to go through.”

He is a long shot, but I really like how this team is taking time to develop guys who have a few skills that fit what they are looking for..no matter how small the chance will be they stick. For every 10 of these guys, maybe you find 1 or 2 that stick. Showers can play special teams, so if he is ever in a battle for one of the last spots that would certainly help him.

Just don't see it because of his lack of experience at safety and the overall depth there.

Jameill Showers Tackling Move To Safety: “I Can’t Eat Like A QB Anymore”

May 22, 2017
FRISCO, Texas – There were moments in training camp last summer when the only quarterbacks on the Cowboys’ practice field were Dak Prescott and Jameill Showers.

Kellen Moore’s season-ending leg injury the first week of camp made Prescott and Showers the first candidates to back up Tony Romo. The rest, of course, is history.

The backup job, and eventually the starting job, became Prescott’s. Moore is now Prescott’s backup. Romo is now in the CBS broadcast booth.

And Showers is now a full-time safety, a conversion he’s making at the coaches’ request after two years playing multiple positions on the practice squad.

“That was the talk that me and Coach (Jason) Garrett had in October whenever he first asked me to move was, we want you to focus on safety because you do well there and it’ll give you a chance to move up on special teams,” Showers said. “He was like, ‘We don’t want to put you in a position where you’re a jack of all trades, master of none situation.’ I definitely respect it and I’m trying to work hard for it.

“I’m excited about it. I think it’ll give me more opportunities to play, especially special teams, things like that. I think it just kind of puts more on my resume as far as a football player, even if things don’t work out here or wherever. Or even if they do, I’ll have more that I can do. That’s what I heard is the more you can do, the longer you stay type of deal.”

Rest...

It's irrelevant because it has nothing to do with the Jameil Showers as the thread topic. It's like it was mentioned just to be mentioned. Like if we were talking about current great QB's and someone posted Brady supports Trump. It's irrelevant.

Yes, this thread is intended to discuss Jamiell Showers as a possible option at QB due to his similar skill set as Daks. Yet, I respectfully disagree that Kaps personal agenda or 'baggage', as I so eloquently put it, is irrelevant. Kap has been linked as a 'Great' fit by the national media and I might have agreed if it wasn't for the baggage that goes along with him, as he has a similar skill set also and has proven he can play in this league. I'm personally tired of the Circus and mockery the media loves to stir up about Dallas every chance they get, which I believe is the only reason they'd love to see him here. With the exception of Gregory, Dallas has been doing a great job of picking level headed, reliable, college team captains that we can count on to play on Sunday's. Character guys are highly considered.. which is why players like Joe Mixon's value fall in the draft, Greg Hardy's baggage surfaced, Joseph Randle is presently in jail.. I have my opinions, but that's all they will be.. opinions. The Cowboys stay under the microscope, so yes, Kaps baggage is relevant.
