The genius coaching hire(s) of Cowboys Coach Brian Schottenheimer

Do you think Schottenheimer is? At least the Saints made a bonafide search for a new head coach. Jerry couldn’t come to terms with McCarthy so he simply elevated a coach with a “name” from the existing staff.

Unfortunately the “name” was established by the father, not the son. Obviously that phenomenon Jerry Jones relates to and appreciates.
You can make the case that he should have hired on one of the other coaching candidates as well. Ben Johnson and Pete Carroll had/has just as good as a resume than Kellen Moore.

Those two, or their respective agents, may have quietly said no to the Saints.

Not many new head coaches have ever been ultimately successful with a quarterback they inherited. Apologies to Sirianni, who was, but he’s an enigma in a variety of ways.
I think (not 100% positive) our previous head coach has inherited every starting QB for his entire head coaching career.

I don’t disagree with your point but I would think most new head coaches don’t go to teams who are already established with proven QB’s in their prime. It really depends on how you define success and how long the coach has to achieve.

This year you have Johnson inheriting Caleb, Vrabel inheriting Maye, Coen inheriting Lawrence, and then Carrol, Moore, and Glenn will have to find their QB’s.

My bet is none of them experience much success anytime soon if ever. I also bet Moore would give his left nut to have inherited Dak v. what he has.

How many head coaches have won a Super Bowl with a quarterback they “inherited”? Since that is the point of changing head coaches, as in I don’t think we will with this one, let’s replace him and see if we can win it all with a new one.

The current champion is with a head coach that inherited his QB1, I’m sure it’s happened in the past, it would take a little research to see other head coaches that have achieved the same.

Have to believe it’s rare.

I agree it’s rare if the definition of success is SB wins. But by that definition, most head coaches will never be successful, whether they inherit or choose their QB. There have been something like 530 head coaches and 33 have a SB. That’s around 6%. So 94% will never be successful.

But I would imagine there are Carolina and Jacksonville fans who would sell their souls for 3 straight 12-5 seasons. Building a championship team is like eating an elephant. And just because you can’t eat it in one bite doesn’t mean success can’t be achieved along the way.

Success is relative.

It is rare…and we had a coach last year who did it at Green Bay with an inherited QB.

I wonder if Jerry knew that before he failed to retain him.
