The Great Debate: Romo Vs Manning

I don't think Manning is a better QB than Romo, but I do believe the Giants have finally figured out how to use Manning effectively.

Before, they were relying on his arm strength to make big plays, to do things a star quarterback does and he's not accurate enough or cool under pressure enough for that on a consistent basis. In the playoffs, it seemed like Coughlin mostly just asked him to drive the bus, not really putting pressure on him to carry the team.

Romo has, and has shown at times, that team-carrying ability that great quarterbacks have. He's more than a bus driver, but he wasn't able to make that team-carrying play in the playoffs, partially because some members of the team let him down when he tried.

Thanks for the nice welcome, glad to be a member! This forum seems to have a lot of educated posters (and not a bunch of little kids screaming obscenities at each other!) I love it!

You are obviously new to the site.:laugh2:

Manning has a Ring ..... Romo does not.

We do not have a leg to stand on in this argument.

Yet.

Eli was on the verge of being replaced last year. Do people not remember this - at the beginning of last year. He was on the hot seat for a reason.

This is not even up for debate as far as I'm concerned.

a superbowl win is like a band aid it covers up a lot of the crap. the Giants will be lucky to make the playoffs this year and they will be asking for Coughlin's job along with Eli Mannings. Eli didn't win the super bowl his defense did.

That's as big a cliche as...

Dilfer has a ring ..... Marino does not.

Does Eli Manning's ring make him better than Marino?

Honest question: Eli Manning and Jim Kelly are both 25-years old today. You get to pick one of them to be your team's QB. Which do you choose?

QUOTE: Romo by a landslide. The Giants fans feel the Super Bowl victory ends the debate. Cowboys fans are quick to remind Giants fans that most of the Big Blue faithful were trying to run Eli Manning out of town halfway through the 2007 season. The Giants fans keep asking how can the Cowboys fans be so loyal to a guy who has never won a playoff game?

It's quite simple really. The Giants won the SB despite Eli Manning. The Ginats coaches deliberately changed the game-plan in December and Playoffs to take the game out of Eli Manning's hands. Their coaches even edmitted this.

Now, why Romo has not won a playoff game is also a fair question, but the game against the Seahawks two years ago was not lost because of Romo the QB, it was lost because of Romo the snap-holder, and bad plays by other cowboys (are you reading Terry Glen?). In fact, it was Romo the QB that got Dallas back into that game time and time again.

And in last year's loss against the G-men, Romo was clearly the better QB. Unfortunatley his WRs kept dropping passes, unlike Eli Manning, whose recevers played outstanding and kept saving Eli Manning from himself.

Romo is BY FAR the better QB and any real, objective Ginats fan will tell you that.

Perfectly stated. Unbelievable how a guy leads the league in turnovers and is average at best until a few huge breaks occur - then he is a top QB. He catches a huge break when Dallas moves the ball at will against the Giants yet self-destructs with unforced penalties (sprinkle in a few bad calls), and untimely drops. He was shut down against Dallas except for the drive before the half. He was average against TB, played well against GB, then produced 10 points against NE until a desperation, miracle, ball-against-the-helmet catch led to that fluke win. He certainly hung tough in the playoffs and did an admirable job against GB, but that DOES NOT make him something special. Everyone knows the Giants D was the reason they had that miracle ending of a season. There's a reason he's never made the Pro Bowl despite playing in NY and having a golden last name - it's because he's been mediocre. Winning a SB is no small feat, but Dilfer, Johnson, Williams and Rypien have done it as well. Romo has been the better QB by far thus far and has, unfortunately, had a few bad breaks in the playoffs. He was not perfect in his playoff games, but he played well enough to win in both games. He didn't choke or lay an egg in either contest. The Seattle game was bizarre (Glenn's fumble and the bobble of an incredibly shiny ball). The give-away to the Gnats was a product of Fasano's drop, Crayton's drop, the unforced pre-snap penalties, the poor tackling on special teams and defense (Toomer's TD). Romo made a lot more positive plays than negative in that game and was the best QB on the field. That's been apparent just about every time they've faced off. There isn't a GM in the league that would take Eli over Romo. A ring doesn't make you better all of a sudden.

Jim Kelly........no brainer.

And my 2 cents on the original topic:

Tony Romo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Eli Manning................again no brainer.:starspin

If I agree with zrinkill then the argument is pretty much over.

Or the apocalypse is near.

As has been pointed out it was in his 3rd year as a starter that Manning won a playoff game. And no one with a brain can say he carried the team at any time last year. He managed the game; he cut down on mistakes. Just like Dilfer and Johnson did in their SB wins. No way does it make him better then Romo.

If the ring makes the difference then we need to bench Romo and start Johnson.

or Romo could just step it up(along with the defense and wrs forgeting to keep going on routes and dropping passes) and win a ring himself.

Romo needs to win a playoff game before this debate starts. And Manning is light years ahead of Romo on most all counts anyway. Really no debate here.

If Romo can keep his face out of the cameras and papers and head out of every female's skirt he could be the best in the league, IMO.

If I'd followed your advice I would be a rich man right now.. Lonely but rich.

Romo is better no doubt... trent Dilfer has a SB, Brad Johnson has a SB, Rex Grossman went to a SB. The sun shines on a dogs *** every now and then.

Romo has more talent and is better..Will get his sooner or later. Eli will go back to his usuall 20-20 TD INT ratio.

True. I guess we should have drafted Dmac then we wouldnt have to worry about Romo becasue Dmac would have carried the team to the promise land.

I responded to Manning has a ring and Romo doesnt. We dont have a leg to stand on. That ring does not make him the better QB. If it does and the rings are what counts then Johnson should start.
