Cowboys fans love hearing familiar names when it comes to drafting players, or acquiring a new offensive coordinator. Not just familiar in the sense that they recognize the name, but that the name has been associated with winning something or success in some context.

Most people hate the idea of Kellen Moore becoming the OC. I'm not excited about it either, but some of our best draft picks were unknowns to us at the time they were drafted and The Hoodie was once not a household name either.

The unknown would be easier to swallow if Snake Oil Salesman Jerry hadn't sold us snake oil before. I get that and acknowledge that.

On the other hand the Cowboys are quietly and steadily building a better and better team every year. All of us would love for the Hoodie to suddenly be coaching the Cowboys.

But since that's not happening any tie soon, whoever is hired we are going to have to get behind, because we aren't going to be consulted in the process.

Here's to a SB in 2020.

That has become my take, as well. It isn't a given that he will fail or succeed. I do know this, he couldn't be worse that what we had...could he??? We'll likely find out soon enough.

Kellen Moore was a sorry quarterback. However, sometimes lousy players make great coaches and great players make lousy coaches.
I'm so numb by futility and losing that I'm resigned to the idea of KM as OC.
My expectations are low anyway so maybe Moore can lift them.

Moore and any other coach they'd bring in is an unknown because they haven't done it yet and their track record elsewhere is irrelevant. We saw that first hand with Parcells, Belichick in CLE and Payton getting demoted and being stripped of play calling in NY.

What no one here wants are the growing pains of a brand new OC and if we think guys like Pederson and McVay and Payton didn't have them, think again. But it looks like Garrett's walking around days are over and he's being punished and being made the play caller again.

I could care less about his NFL career.

I'm just tired of the Cowboys being the Lions / Bengals south with all of their hires and Kellen Moore basically being a Linehan disciple.

All this tells me the Cowboys are going to be stubborn and the offense will be the same as it was this year.

Remember last year? All the change we were going to see? Dez gone was going to open up so much?

All it amounted to was Cole Beasley lining up at the X or Z.

Obviously, the Joneses/Garrett believe in Moore enough to consider him. Who knows? He might be the latest “young genius of offensive football.”

If KM were to be named OC, and hit a homerun in his first season, we’d be praising all things Jones and Cowboys.

On the other hand, if KM struggles, he’ll be excused by the Joneses/Garrett (and many here) as being young and inexperienced — with the mantra being “be patient and give Kellen a chance.”

How many seasons have we already heard the same “give him time” refrain about Garrett?

While I agree with some of what you said, Linehan was a VERY experienced OC. Moore can definitely be worse than him
Oh, I know...I was just going to extremes with my commentary (this board must be contagious...:)).
I doubt there's ever a singular reason/person for why something does/doesn't work. There are a lot of variables that go into the reasons for every success/failure.

I'm on board if Moore understands how to run the ball in the NFL. If not, it'll be more of the same.

I'm afraid my faith in the decision making of the Jones clan went South w/ the ST's draft of 09.

That thought crossed my mind too, but I went back and looked at the Boise State offenses Moore played in, and those offense were not just about Moore throwing the ball. They were actually very balanced and ran the ball a little more than 50% of the time. And, of course, he’s been around strong running games in Dallas too.

That is incredibly uplifting to read.

And I do know that Kitna was responsible for showing Romo how to run a ball control O. If he is hired as QB coach, good hire.
