The Green Bay Game is a Win Win

We've seen this situation in Dallas before, in 1991 Steve Beuerlein came of the bench to lead the Cowboys to victory over the 11-0 Washington Commanders. After that he led them on a four game winning streak that put them into the playoffs where the defeated the Bears on the road. Aikman was healed and ready to go against the Bears but Jimmy chose to go with the hot hand. The next game was on the road against the Lions where the Boys were soundly beaten and Aikman came in for Beuerlein and finished the game. At the time I thought that that was a great point for Aikman to takeover so that it wouldn't be any controversy going into the next season.

Fast forward to 2016, I'd love to go into Green Bay and get a victory (which I think will happen) but if we lose I think that it would be a great time for Romo to takeover following a loss and maybe the media will have to find something else to talk about while we're off two weeks. If we win then we're 5-1 and the Cowboys fo will have to make a decision on who is going to lead them the rest of the way, meanwhile the "whose going to start in Dallas" story will lead all sports talk. Either way there's a positive that can come from this game.

Having Romo take over the following week if we lose to Green Bay would be like saying we're pinning the loss on Dak. I don't call that good timing especially with Philly coming up. Romo taking over against a Philly defense that has 14 sacks when he has't played a regular season game since Nov of last year would likely result in another injury and back to back losses. If we lose to Green Bay I want to see us and Dak rebound the following week. Everyone wants to see Dak vs Wenz and you can bet barring injury Dak will be playing.

Jerry said a couple of weeks ago that once Romo is healthy he'll be the starting QB. Jerry's tune is already starting to change a little because the other day he said Dak's great play is going to allow us to be patient with Tony.

Before we played Cincy the claim was that this was our true test. Then the goal posts were moved back 10 more yards when the pundits claimed that Cincy isn't the same ream they used to be.

If we beat the Packers I wonder what excuse they will come up with?

Romo needs to wait until the Cleveland game.

Bingo!

It gives Romo another week of reps, puts him in a position to succeed, let's us see how Dak is against Philly and alleviates the natural fan base anxiety during the change. That's exactly when he should come back.

The entry point makes all the difference, Daks playing with house money, no one would blame him if we loss the GB game at least no one with any sense. We'd be 4-2 going into the bye, if anyone would have told us that before game one we'd have taken that in a NY minute.

If we lose to Greenbay and Romo loses to Philly, fans will say that Dak wouldn't have won the Philly game either.

However, If we beat GB, and Romo loses against Philly, this will be the most heavily debated topic in sports history.

The debate will never end until Romo retires or is injured again, I am so tired of hearing about it that I just don't care who it is anymore. I just hope the team makes the best choice and I am looking forward to enjoying either QB playing.

Dallas really hasn't played a true contending team...but neither have several teams.
All we can ask for is for them to beat who is one their schedule at a good rate.

Pretty sure nobody thinks Cincy so far this year is the Cincy anyone expected. They are 2-3
That's not to say they won't possibly get it going later in the season.

Green Bay hasn't looked all that great either. VERY vulnerable and also a fairly light schedule so far except for the team they lost to.

Pre-season perceptions change when reality comes into play.
I don't think people are moving the goal posts.

My guess is that if there was a strength of schedule rating so far, Dallas schedule would be in the bottom 1/4th.
the teams are:
2-3
3-2
1-4
1-4
2-3

Hard to get much easier than that.
Not Dallas' fault though.
And it's really do early to go by records...I mean 4 of those teams got a loss playing Dallas :)

I do think the green bay game should present a real challenge. But Dallas winning wouldn't shock anyone.

If Romo comes back in he'll need reps despite being a vet. For those calling for the Cleveland start how do you reconcile losing those reps just so Tony can duck a good defense?

I'm good with that as long as you consider that part of that record is because of Dallas..

assuming Romo is taking over no matter what Dak does,
they team needs to announce monday that Romo will be the starting QB after the bye
if he isnt ready (which he shouldnt play until more than ready), just state he isnt until the next week.
its not good for the team and maybe the fans to *****foot around it.
and jerrah needs not to milk it for attention, the team is more important

I don't believe that because it will come down to how we lose to GB and Philly. If we lose to GB with Dak at QB because our D can't stop Rodgers and we lose to Philly because of a rusty Romo who tosses a couple of picks and is off his game a lot of fans will be angry that we made the switch to Romo. They'll be a lot of second guessing. No matter how you cut it I can't imagine most Cowboys fans are going to want to go back to Romo vs Philly regardless how Dak plays tomorrow. Even if he plays terrible it will be his first bad game in 6 games. EVERYONE wants to see Dak vs Wentz and Jerry isn't about to rob everyone of that because of one bad game by Dak or a loss to GB.

If Romo does play this season the Cowboys better make sure Dak's game has really started to regress for the team to make that move because there's going to be a lot of pressure on Romo to play well. He's going to have a very difficult time playing as well as Dak has up to this point. Dak has been one of the top QBs in the league so far. Hard to believe but he's not only having a rookie of the year season but an MVP season. Sounds crazy to say it but it's true. The read option that he's provided is one reason we rank #2 in total offense. You lose the read option threat with Romo who can't run. If I'm in charge Dak's game is going to have to regress pretty bad the next 2 weeks for me to consider going back to Romo.

I'm loving the energy I'm seeing with this team under Dak's leadership and I see no point to going back to where we've been with Romo, who's game isn't going to be sharp after all the time he's missed. He's been a very good QB over the years but we're never going to get far with him in the condition he's in. He's never going to be 100% healthy which is why the team has to take so many precautions with him. They give him rest days in practice just to try and keep him feeling good for Sundays.
